J, I was talking to Foundry Man yesterday and he thought he had seen the buck I shot out there as well. He must have been making tracks trying to find some hot doe!! Just in case anyone was wondering, I was on forest service land when I shot him!!. I had a buddy who thought it would be ok to shoot one next to little walnut before it turns to forest land (to this day he thinks it was still ok, even though he was no more than 20 yards from a house!!). good luck to you and Tommy , this snow should help!! ag

YEEHAW, I killed my largest mulie to date!! And my first animal with a bow!! I had been hunting the last few days with my son and we had seen some doe, we had seen a couple bucks but both were in peoples yards, so I figured I should pass on them . We hunted this morning and then helped a buddy move some furniture. We got home about 1:30 and ate and then I started watching the Cardinal vs Falcons on TV. I was pretty discouraged at this time since we had seen no bucks and the Game so far was good, so I thought, maybe I will just stay and watch it. Well the Cards started to revert to form(I see they pulled it out though!) so I decided (with the help of my hunting buddy) that we should go ahead and go out even if we just walked around for awhile. SO we drove out to our unit and I just took the first turn I could and then the first pull off as I had seen a large herd in the area last year. So we left the truck and the first thing my poor son does is find somebodies large dookie pile to step in After matters were cleaned up we kept on and we came on an old skid trail and started to follow it, of course I am not paying very good attention so when the doe runs if front of me at 8 yards it scares the bejeebers out of me, then I saw a forked antler and thought Man I had a perfect chance and blew it!!! Then the deer stopped at 30 yards!! I drew released and as my arrow skipped off of his back through his ear and then into his antler, I realized it was really 20 yards ! Well the doe has not moved a bit and so I walked along the skid trail, within 5 yards of her I might add, and as I came around the tree she was next to, the buck was RIGHT THERE!! WHile I futzed with my release to attach it to my loop he ran to 15 yards, I aimed, squeezed and POW!!! he dropped like a stone!! First ARchery Deer!! Biggest mulie to date!! It is only a forkie, but hey I favor the little guys with big white tails!! If you look at the first pic you can see the deer lying to the right and my arrow sticking out of the stump on the far left! After all the hiking and glassing we did, we killed that deer not 10 minutes from my truck!! To top it all off my son was with me for it, what a great great day!! AG

Here are a couple frontal shots It is a very intense experience to be that close to an animal when you take him I will tell you that!! My son was very impressed with the sound it made when he heard the arrow hit. I think I could really get used to this archery stuff ag

Nice buck!! welcome to the site. ag -
Well it could be worse, you could be totalled as well!! or you could have been hit by one of those wonderful morons who drive with no insurance and then had only liability(that happened to a buddy of mine in Flag) So better to be in the woods with a borrowed truck looking forward to coming home from a successful hunt to buy a new hunting rig!! good luck ag

BB, awesome pics!!! I would have donated some lead and a lion tag (if you would have let me deliver the aforementioned lead and would have happily burned a tag on him) ag

Any late archery hunts that arent currently HD or Q will quickly become so ,If I had a q/hd tag one year and there was a S late hunt, guess which hunt I would put in for the next year. So would some others I imagine and that will change that S to a HD/Q pretty quick!!! ag -
WOW, I hope I see one like that this weekend!(at least then I can say I missed a monster!) ag

I have been with someone who decided to shoot and pray and I have been with someone who took a long shot because they were comfortable with it, one had good results and the other just plain missed, of course this was a guy who took a 100 yard shot at a walking elk during archery season, I no longer hunt with him by the way and I had absolutely no problem with the guy taking the longer shot who was well practiced, the other one just flung lead and had no chance of hitting. very irresponsible to take a shot like that. regardless of the shot, if it is a low percentage shot it probably should not be taken. That being said my first year deer hunting I took a shot at 150 yards that I had practiced over and over and hit the deer but because of inexperience I pushed it up and lost it. The moral is crap happens we all know we might wound a deer and try our hardest to prevent that but sometimes it happens. We owe it to the animal to look exhaustingly for it, but we also need to be able to shake it off and learn from the experience and do what we can to prevent it from happening again. I dang sure would not go on a new site and within my first few posts talk about my 600 yard wounding shot! Merry Christmas!!! ag
