I had been scouting in unit 6a for whitetail several years ago and had marked one at 105+, I had one of my buddies with me who was sworn to secrecy and we had this buck patterned, he would bed down on the ridgeline and then feed out into the same opening every morning with 2 other bucks. Well the day of the hunt I go out with my wall tent and we have everything set up and we are out glassing and I hear this truck come driving up the 2 track past my tent to where the canyon head is. So we glass until dark and walk over and there is this guy from Flag FD and he says that he was elk hunting in Nov and just happened to see the big buck then, well it just so happens that my sworn to secrecy buddy was trying to get on the dept. then. Well the booger eating moron shows up after dawn opening morning stumbles to the end of the canyon and unleashes just as the deer are getting up. All clean misses from 400 yards with no rest. I know this because I went over to talk to him when I heard the barrage. I ended up taking a buck that morning but it was only about 80. what a disappointment, I waited out with my dad but we never saw another deer in that canyon. It sure is nice when someone cant keep their pie hole shut about honey holes, the same guy took his entire family to another place I showed him down south. ag

Help with elk draw for NM
fatfootdoc replied to Couestracker's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
the private land tags that are good for the entire unit require the ranch holding those tags to allow free and unrestricted access to the ranches during the hunt as a condition for allowing the private tag to incorporate the whole unit. The ranches that don't agree with this have tags that are good only for their ranches so be sure to check that before you buy any landowner tags. AG -

muledeer1 Aren't you the guy with one arm and a hand with 2 fingers missing and the face with the really bad scars? ag -
I was just reading about the huge buck that Mason killed(congrats by the way that mother is huge) and seeing all of the continuous crap comments really was aggravating. If I was him I would have pulled the pics and told them to stuff it. I have noticed the last several months that there have been some real jerks signing up and posting on the topics. What really kills me is when some dumb a** doubts the credibility of another hunter or that hunters deer Back in the day when I was living in Flagstaff I had some friends both of which killed monster elk, one with a rifle and one with a bow in consecutive years. Well one of them had people calling his house and telling him they were going to report him for poaching it at night , killing it before the season, all that good stuff, the other was accused of arrowing his bull on the res and pulling it over the fence. It is hard for me to believe the crap that the jealous and envious will step in to make an honest person look bad. these are other hunters for crying out loud! granted there are some shady guys but come on! I will tell you that I for one do not doubt for a minute the integrity of any person who posts pictures on this site for all of us to enjoy, I do however doubt that of the morons, jerks, butt heads, etc and ETC who try to make them look bad. Seems to me that I remember in the long ago days when I was at NAU my Psych teacher telling us that the people who have problems with jealousy and etc and falsely accuse people of things, actually do that because they know that they themselves would do the things that they are accusing other people of. I think he was 100% correct. So to all of the worthless morons who degrade our site dedicated to the most beautiful of the big game animals--- Join the forum at www. A**holes .com and leave us alone!!! Better yet get into politics your crap will fly much better with ilk of your own kind. And to all of the lucky, skilled hunters who bag game and post it you guys ROCK and many thanks to you who take the time to post and befriend one another and make this the fraternity it is supposed to be!! Enough of the venting! good hunting AG

couesdiehard, I dont know that a PETA vegan would be a good complement to your trout as you would probably get a riproaring case of explosive diarrhea I can just see your post appearing in the next comic they produce---"KIDS YOUR DAD'S LIKE TO EAT PEOPLE" and then there is your post! , what a bunch of idiots, just about right for the press to actually publish idiocy such as that though. ALthough I think I might look like the guy in the comic when I am cleaning fish! I typically do try to leave all my hooks in all the fish I clean and I do have a large butcher knife that I use to clean my fish with! One word to describe them in the immortal words of Napolean Dynamite-----"IDIOT" AG

tommie, how come it does not surprise me one bit that you would catch 2 pigs makin bacon? That is awesome Maybe you could learn something from you game cam after all?? ag
-
Tommie, I told you I broke all my arrows shooting off of my roof! I tried to sharpen my sons rubber arrows on my bench grinder but all I did was melt the rubber suction cups off. I am going to try to make some arrows this week, I have a bunch of globe willows that i just pruned, just got to figure out how to get my broadheads to stick to them, tried bubble yum but did not work, will try JB Weld next! AG
-
Very funny Tommy, That didn't help either, now all of my old arrows are broken and now I am going to have to use my son's bow with the rubber arrows, Fortunately I dont think that really changes the chance I have for success on my hunt! ag
-
tommie, Its too late , I just broke all of my new arrows shooting off of the top of my house at the cows in with my horses because I was aiming 5 yards short! I guess I will have to just let my prime archery whitetail tag in 23 in January go unused and it is all your fault!! AG

Neat finds while roaming the hills
fatfootdoc replied to GRONG's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
When my wife and I were dating, we went out to the Narrows at Lake Mary to go fishing. Well we are sitting there fishing and this little datsun pulls up(datsun mind you!) Well first they start screaming at one another and then they start screaming with one another. well my wife being the innocent little LDS lass she was says " You better go help her I think he is hurting her really bad!" I said " Honey, rest assured those are not screams of pain." She looks at me and says " What do you mean?, Yes that was the night I had to have the TALK with my girlfriend! -
Tommie, I think you are a freak and I have never seen you shoot off of your roof, so what is your point? AG
-
My boy was 8 when I let him start shooting my 22-250 with 55 gr bullets and he never complained about the recoil and the little dude was a dang good shot. I have shot 2 deer with the 22-250 both at over 200 yards and both dropped immediately. AG

Bowsniper, I really enjoyed the following quote in a previous post---Alright guys, let them fly, my rant is over. Just remember that a treehugger has killed a bigger buck (112") with an arrow than most of you have even glassed up. What is that saying again? Oh yeah even a blind pig finds a root once in awhile I think everyone has to agree just to disagree, there are valid points to both arguments . If all the ranchers were on the up and up there would not be an issue and if everyone hunted areas where the animals are benefitting from land maintenance from the ranchers we would all see eye to eye. unfortunately this is not the case so we all have to respect one anothers opinion about it. AG -
deerslam, I just used Masons buck as an example, I have noticed that there have been an increasing number of comments in poor taste and just downright nasty the last few months. THere have always been a few but the number unfortunately seems to be increasing. AG

lark, I heard one of the ranchers up there in round valley lost the biggest forest service lease on the mountain to an environmentalist bid, any truth to that? ag -
Lark, This post is for sure not directed at you, your comments are always in good humor, this is for the other dingleberries that need to criticize and doubt the size of others animals. AG

After I vented last night I went to bed and I was laying there thinking that there are some people who have tape measures built into there eyes because they can look at a picture of a rack and instantly have a score that they are sure is right , I measure deer in the small, good, big, huge and hold my rifle I am going to vomit, type of scoring. I know all of us are relatively good at estimating score, but that is what it is, an estimation, as long as we dont take ourselves to seriously(and most of us dont) there is no problem. it is when we become adamant that we are right about its score(or it being a fake ) when we have never even held the rack in our hot little hands. So my hat is off to all of you guys who post and supply pictures. and once again if you are here to be negative... see my previous post, there is a website right up your alley on there! AG

Livestock Grazing
fatfootdoc replied to patrick15's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Ok Ok, I agree whole heartedly with the fact that the ranchers have to give a crap. but I know that the areas that I hunt in the Chiricuahas are only in as good as shape as they are in because the rancher takes care of it. The only water in the canyons we hunt is from his catchtanks and gravity drinkers. I have seen some instances of overgrazing but mostly I have seen the good that the ranchers do. So just like real life there are the good and the bad. Oh and none of the ranchers I know here in NM are what you would call rich. Must be easier to ranch in AZ ag -

Patrick, Tree Huggers R US called and your yearly dues are paid in full, they also would like you to run for president Holy misguided comments. Without ranchers and the improvements they make the wildlife would be in TROUBLE!!! Watch what happens in most ranges that carry cattle and then have them removed and lose the land stewardship that goes with it. With in a few years most of the big game is gone and there goes your hunting spot! Those ranchers are what make much of AZ and NM huntable, if they want to block some of their land I will respect that and still thank them for the improvements that they have made. -
yeah, I am with Casey as well. ag

Seen the fee proposals for 2006?
fatfootdoc replied to DesertBull's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
So being a horrible non resident, here is what I think; Tag increases ok as long as they stay in reasonable limits, make dec WT a quality hunt - nuts to you, bar all non residents no, but do what some of the mid west states do and only allow non resident hunters from states allowing residents of their state to put in there FOR ANY AND ALL GAME, AZGFD needs to get more money from the general budget as well, if they have to continue relying on the dwindling pool of hunters the tag fees will go up and up. For those of you who are advocating raising the tag prices be careful because you just might get what you pay for, at some point in time, the only time you may spend hunting will be being a pack dog for the ones who can afford to put in! The non resident fees should they continue to increase will do exactly what everyone on this forum complained about last year at this time and allow the outfitters to get their rich non resident hunters in here.. Also another general reminder when the tag increase proposals first came out last year I dont remember hearing alot of grumbling from the resident hunters, I do remember many of you(not all) supporting the large non resident increase, well now that the shoe is on the other foot you should have done something about it last year. There are still some meetings of the fee proposals aren't there? How many of you have attended one of those to voice your displeasure? Oh and I am not trying to ruffle any feathers, just using a non res point of view. AG
