So how do we voice our displeasure with this wonderful NM item of game management? And how can we get it changed? ag

So one of the guys who I hunt with is putting his kids in Hunter safety and wants to put his kids in with mine next year for a deer hunt. The problem is he is not really a serious hunter and is not that skilled(loud, noisy, does not sight his gun in year to year etc) now his oldest boy I would not trust with a pop gun much less a real one, so how in the world do I tell him his baby is ugly and make him like it? Or should I just wrap my kids in orange and hope for the best? I can see this kid looking at things through his scope to identify them just thought I would add that. What would you guys do in this situation?? ag

If my wife finds out what I spent I will get a large lump of coal upside the head!! they emailed me the offer and you had to log on through the email, unfortunately it had to be by dec 23rd I believe. Casey the leicas may have contributed to the killing of the buck, but there is an old saying that goes"even a blind pig can find a root now and then!!" ag

Couesslayer, Enjoy that hair while you have it, I used to just paint my head in camo paint but it would run into my eyes when I sweat and make me miss everything I shot at!! Now I wear hats with long brims that block my scope just as I shoot. The good thing is that I dont have to keep a signal mirror with me anymore I just take my hat off and point my head to the sun. oh and who do you think I am referring to? Seriously , a ton of great ideas, except for az4life, NOWAY am I loaning him my Glasses??!! I think I may just take them out in the woods and have his boy carry a bb gun and see how he does and gently point things out, if he gets belligerent I will just tell them they are on their own. AG -

Guys, Thanks for all the ideas, you can bet I will use one of them. the only problem with separating in the units we hunt is he tends to always end up where I am anyway(reasoning is, he never sees deer when he is by himself and I always see deer!) and the canyons we hunt are not that big, at least the huntable portion. Jeffd, that is exactly what I am afraid of happening to my kids with this kid! I am so sorry to hear about that. This kid is belligerent at times and will not listen to a thing that you say and I know that I have a short fuse and will not tolerate that from my kids and I will not take it from him especially on a hunt when I am telling him things to help out and keep everybody else safe. I even thought about letting them put in with us and then hiding his bullets the night before the season, is that desperate or what!?? ag -
Casey, I tried a pair of the leica duovids before I bought my el's and they did not fit my head, oh and on the wall target I looked at in Sportsmens, they caused a burning desire in me to aim at the right antler and skull plate of the deer!!! Sorry that was kind of mean!! AG

The Bionic Buck......'07 Late Hunt
fatfootdoc replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Jim, There is no shame in posting a true hunting story, if we never had the crap happen to us we would not enjoy the good stuff so much!!! I hope you do tag that sucker next year!!!! ag -
The Bionic Buck......'07 Late Hunt
fatfootdoc replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
That buck had a spinal concussion from the shot, kind of like a football player gets from a direct neck hit . He will have some zingers for awhile but as long as the flesh heals it will not kill him or even slow him down for long. ag -
TUCSON BUTCHER RUINS DEER MEET
fatfootdoc replied to whisper's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
That happened to me way back in 92 or 93, I killed a mulie in CO and took it to good old Connolys meat market in Flagstaff. I usually butcher my own, but I wanted alot of it made into sausage , so I drop it off and pick it up about a week later. The next day I cant wait to try my venison breakfast sausage, so I throw a package in the skillet and run upstairs to make the bed. Next thing I know it smells like someone is grilling a nice fresh piece of brown lumpy stuff( with the peanuts and corn shells! ) I run down to the kitchen and sure enough the meat is spoiled as spoiled can be. So I check the other packages of meat(70 bucks total for processing ) and it is all bad! So I call Connollys the next day(MOnday) and no answer, well that night in the superinformative Arizona Daily Sun there is a huge article about how the health dept has just shut them down as they had a reefer truck behind the market loaded with deer and it did not have a working refidgeration unit so they were all spoiled!! This happened the day I picked up my deer!! I was just to early and was there before they were shut down. They could have told me the unit was out and the meat was spoiled , but no, those jerks charged me for it anyway. Well they never reopened and I never got my money back and as far as I think they got what they deserved!! ag -
you obviously have not met couesslayer, he would look like a girl peeing standing up I imagine!!ag

Jim, Well you just PM that unit number to me and I will make sure more nonresidents put in for it next year!! ag -
Well hate to burst the 23 bubble, but since I am a native AZ transplanted to NM, I would not exactly say that 23 has a high quantity of whitetail compared to the AZ units, it would be a mediocre AZ whitetail unit. That being said it is still a fun hunt and for NM it does have a high quantity of deer for NM standards. Now the Burros are a different sort of animal, I imagine thicker deer densities, but they are not waiting in line to jump in front of your crosshairs. AG

Whats the dumbest thing you've done?
fatfootdoc replied to TATAat27's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I was hunting in NM for elk and in a unit I had hunted 3 years in a row and was hunting one elk in particular with a very distinctive bugle and rack. It was midday and I was still-hunting down a heavily used game trail and after about 1 hour I finally decided enough, there was no way I was going to see anything in there. So I start walking like a goombah and making noise, I look at my feet and kick a pine cone look up and yep there he is 25 yards away standing next to his bed looking right at me, the very same elk I was in there looking for. To make it worse, one of my buddies popped him the 2nd hunt in the same draw!! Oh well at least it was a friend who got him. Oh and I too have experienced a 4 wheeler embedded in my rear window( in a 2 month old truck!!) at least I got the sliding rear window I always wanted!! ag -
I am with Tommy! Post the pics of the dirty bugger and I bet his identity becomes known very quickly! What a jerk! What did the ahole get for christmas? My trail camera ag

What would you do? (hunting etiquette)
fatfootdoc replied to PSEHunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
We were on our whitetail hunt this Nov. and we were in a small canyon, all of our trucks were parked at the road leading into it and we were there before first light. So we are in there and at first light sure enough putt putt putt go the atv's and they pull up the road next our trucks and then past them up the road to a small area to pull off. Well they hike in with the wind at their backs right down off the point of the canyon we are hunting. Well about 1100 my gps starts to make some squaks so I start to listen and it is our late arriving buddies " Man there is a guy hunting over there with all his kids, what an idiot and those kids are loud! Looks like they are leaving, it pisses me off when someone sits where I am glassing" Now remember we were there first! The guy they were talking about was one of my buddies and yes he had his kids, adn those morons walked right through where he was glassing with his kids and then start to BIT-- about him!! So I radioed him and said Hey did those morons on the ATV's screw up your hunt? I hate it when some idiots cant get out of bed early and ruin everyone elses morning! When I find those atv's I am going to put rocks in their valve stems!! I wonder if they have any gear on their atv's? So the radios all of the sudden become very silent for some reason! We went ahead and hiked out and went back in that night and that was the last we saw of them. I was disappointed that someone was hunting where we were but that happens , what makes me mad is they showed up after it was light adn then start moaning about us ruining their hunt!! From another standpoint , I love when I am sitting a blind or etc and someone hikes up on it and starts walking around, I wait until they get close and then yell "SPHINCTER SAYS WHAT? at the top of my lungs!! actually I just say how is it going in a normal voice, I swear I have seen some 50 inch vertical leaps I tall boils down to etiquette and simply some people have it and some dont!! ag -

J, At least he gave you a response. I have emailed him and tried calling him and he has never responded to one of them. Believe it or not I had legitimate issues I wanted to discuss with him. I hope he is not reappointed. Good luck on all of your hunts you lucky dog!! ag
