It was brought to my attention that I did not mention that I had a tag as well and that is why I put the deer down because my friend was breathing so hard he could not shoot and the deer was heading over the ridgeline. ag

IN 1992 or 93 I was hunting in 36a in the refuge with some buddies of mine for coues. We had not seen alot of deer that year for some reason and they had never shot a deer. Another hunter drove by our camp and told us he had seen some deer in another area that were small and that he would show them where they were if we met him the following morning. I wanted to see them get their first deer and they were not picky so we met him the next morning with the directions he gave us. Well he spots a small buck and my buddies older brother shoots it( in the hip of all places) and I end up putting it down. This guy was in a big buck contest and was glassing with Swaros(I was a poor college student at the time and was in awe) I am just wondering if that guy happened to be anyone on this site!? I would like to know who it was so I can tell him thanks again. My other buddy killed a little spike that day as well, so they killed their first deer on the same day it was pretty cool. (other than the fact he killed the deer at 70 yards with a 300 win mag and shot it through the guts , not alot of gutting to do with that sucker) anyway if anyone on here was that person I would like to know! Thanks AG

boy I could have sworn this had to be someone on this forum!! I dont think any of you would have hesitated to do what that hunter did. AG

I hunted there on a Dec hunt and the problem is getting to the deer after you shoot it. Plan on long shots and lots(LOTS) of hiking. I never put in there again. We did see some deer though ag

J, You gotta keep the streak going, put in for antelope archery next year and if you dont get drawn go to AZ, you can always hunt AZ late archery anyway(well for now). ag

My condolences and prayers to you. Those little planes can be dangerous. My wife probably saved my life, she told me if I got my pilots license she would leave me so she would not have to go to my funeral. That made my decision easy. ag

WAY COOL!! That is awesome Jason! I worked my butt off on this hunt and other than the great time I had I have nothing to show for it. I did video tape some sweet footage of a huge antelope herd hitting a wheel licker the night before opening day and of a herd of about 100+ elk that were in the meadow below my camp(want my son to see and hear it to fire him up for his elk tag) This hunt was about the same as my last antelope hunt, I loved every minute of it, but everytime I close my eyes I see an antelope buck busting me. I did not see any rut activity and actually watched lone does walk right past bucks without even a head turn! Let me tell you this there are some BIG bucks out there and they all are wondering who the fat guy with the fake antelope was . I never got closer than 80 yards, not comfortable past 60, I was at 55 yards for a milllisecond on a 16incher, but that was as he sprinted past chasing the doe that had just winded me thanks to a little wind swirl. I was in antelope every day and got stalks in every day, just ran out of grass or got busted. Saw one other vehicle, and they conveniently crapped right in the middle of the 2 track I was riding my 4 wheeler down(no it wasnt a red duramax) , good thing they used plenty of TP to mark the land mine. I also got to try out my new blind(primos vision) it was awesome , it has deception camo and the dang birds kept trying to land on the limbs and would fall off onto the ground(guess you had to be there) , oh and the cows really liked it. Good Job Jason!! ag

For those unfortunate ones of us who did not get drawn, anyone seen a refund check yet?? ag

I know for a fact that they cant freeze your account or close it just because you SAID something about it. I had B of A and hated them and finally decided to close my accounts with them. I had to go in and sign several forms, tell them why I was closing the account, and even then got a statement the next month with a 25.00 charge for not keeping the minimum balance in it!! I called and guess what "We cant take care of that over the phone!" SO in I go and they tell me that my account is closed and that they cant help me, so I end up taking the statement in and telling the lady that she needed to fix it and quit wasting my time or I was going to start charging her by the hour for my time! They dropped the charge. good luck B of A sucks. ag

Cowards Caught on Camera!
fatfootdoc replied to cramerhunts's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
It would kind of suck if that old rancher(after being shown the pics) said , well yup , that there is my son dingus and my wife ethel!! Of course this would be after you talked about how fat she was!! AG -
Jason, I would like to see one like that in about 2 weeks(in bow range and preferably blind with a bad nose!! ) How is your stick flinging coming? ag

My father in law is a custom knife maker and he is a stud at it. He has made us a few, I had one made out of the antler of one of the elk I have killed as does my wife. He and my son are going to make one together here in the next few months. Talk about spoiled. It is nice when you can pick your steel and the materials on the handle. AG

wards, think what you want, crap where you want, but that o ring did not move, I had 3 buddies with me when we found the arrow, it was just laying on the ground right past where I stuck him and it had not moved, I rolled the o ring back and the blades popped right out. I know, maybe the o ring rolled itself back up the broadhead! Anyway, enjoy your hunts this year with your vortex(which do fly really well), that is all I have to say about that. ag
-
Wards, Of course I recovered the arrow, how in the HE!! do you think I know it did not open!! I know one thing at 10 yards I shot a spike bull with a 125 grain vortex and the O ring did not move, maybe that was my fault for not spraying it with wd 40?? Maybe the shot could have been better all I was saying is that the stupid thing did not open. Besides, the only way I would have missed hitting something vital if they had deployed right is if the blades would have opened exactly parallel to its back bone, bottom line is the broadhead failed to open properly and I lost my first big game animal. ag

So I lost all my tags!!! In my entire life I have never done anything so stupid!! I mean they just disappeared!! I called game and fish and I was going to have to drive to Cruces and buy duplicates at 7 a pop plus gas! Talk about panic! I was getting ready to call again to see if I could pay over the phone with my cc and have one of the orthopedic reps I use pick them up , when lo and behold I just happened to look through a pile of mail for the 5th time and there they were!!! They were lost for about 4 days! talk about sucking! All I could think about at night was where the heck could they be! Mysteriously, right before they turned up my wife says, maybe now on you wont leave your mail on the counter anymore!!! 5 minutes later , there they were!! Hmm, that is playing nasty! ag

Fortunately for her I believe everyone gets a second chance!! ag

VOrtex stink as far as I am concerned. My only lost game with a bow was with one of them. I arrowed a spike from 10 yards and it was a complete pass through, a little high, but the stupid blades never opened because the o ring didnt slide back. If they would have opened it should have caught the top of both lungs. As it was I trailed the thing for over 8 hours and never found it, went back and looked for ravens and never found any so hopefully it just sealed itself off. I swore them off forever that day. I have a few friends who love them though, but I will never shoot them again. ag

fatfootdoc replied to Foundry Man's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico

Jason, I did not get drawn for AZ, looking at the rifle hunts, there are some good chiricahua hunts still wide open. ag

You forgot JASON VOORHEES from FRIDAY THE 13th, I swear he was stalking me one night in the CHiricahuas while I sat a tank. I was walking out and knew he was behind me with his big machete! I went into run like he!! mode and ran right past my two hunting buddies who were sitting on a rock by the main road waiting for me!! Did not help that I had just watched the movie and was 16! PS-- I think he is still there!! ag

I have the 10x 42 els and the 15x 56 slc's, they are both great glass, the selling point for me on the el vs slc in the 10x 42 was weight and I really like the diopter adjustment on the els, you set it click it in and you are good to go unless you pull it out to change it. The els are light as a feather which is good when you are hiking your butt off with binocular straps around your neck or shoulders. AG
