Bullet garage sale. 6.5, 7mm, .308 VLDs. 500 count boxes
RHINO replied to 308Nut's topic in Classified Ads
where are you located? Im interested in the 6.5 -
I think that one of the problems is that people will use a lead sled to practice. They might have a rifle that is good to a 1000 in a vice but they never tried their own skill. They think if they get a good rest and squeeze thats it. If you dont square your shoulder, load your bipod properly you will never be proficient at these ranges. Dont get me wrong there is a use for devices like the lead slead. I use one when working up new loads, so i can take out the human error. I also use it to compare what the rifle is capable of and compare that to what i can. Its helped me find some some bad habits. I have a custom 6.5x284 that consistently shoots 1.5" groups at 600 yards using the lead sled. Shooting prone i havent been able to match those numbers yet. Im usually closer to the 2" to 2.5" group. I keep trying to better myself and hopefully one day i will shoot as good as my rifle. The key is to practice shooting in hunting positions, know your limits, and always get as close as possible.

6.5x284 mule deer/coues gun

I have a custom 6.5x284 and I love it. I wouldn't have any hesitation of putting a deer down a 1000 yards with mine. I shoot a 140 berger vld and at 700 yards its right at 2000 fps and 1200 ft-lb energy. Best shooting gun I have ever shot. It holds 1.5" or less groups at 600 yards and sub 4" groups at a 1000 yards. I retired my old deer gun 300 um. -
That is a steal. You have that much in parts, not counting machine work. 400 for action, 200 for trigger, 350 for barrel, 500 for stock. I would jump all over this if I didn't already have a custom 6.5 284.

When I was doing my build, it came down to two scopes. The nightforce atacr, and the razor gen2. I love them both but chose the razor because I liked the reticle better. You cant go wrong with a nightforce.

My first custom rifle, shoots better than I could ever dream of. Built on a win model 70 28" bartlein barrel Mcmillan game scout stock Shot a 1.4" group at 560 yards.

try using a concentricity gage. Sometimes they are tough to find the sweet spot on seating depth. I start .010 jammed and the back off .040 then .080 and the .120. You will see that one of those will be dramatically better than the other. Then I will go in and out from there. My rifle loved them jammed and then really loved them jumped over .120.

He's just getting started out of Oracle. He has his own rifle range with steel gongs out to 1400 yards. He does everything by word of mouth right now until he can build up his business.
-
There's plenty of room. I wrnt with yhe game scout because at the time it was the only one i could get fairly quick.
-
Yes, basically everything. Blue printed, lapped lugs, trued the face, cerakoted the action and bolt, pillar and glass bedded. Not sure what else.

I looked at my notes and i was a lottle off. The group that shot 1.4" at 560 yards was 52 grains 4831 seated at 2.335 to the ogive wich is 2.995 coal. It had an es of 22 fps. I had a load that shot 1.71" at 560 yards and it was 53 grains 4831 2.330 to the ogive and it had an es of 4 fps.

Sorry, i was at work. Ill go down the list. Twist: 1:8 Trigger: timney set around 1 lb Base and rings: night force Brass: lapua Primer: cci br2 Bullet: 140 berger vld hunting Since i dont have my notes in front of me i will have go off of memory on the rest. ES: 7fps 2.995 to the ogive And it liked it jammed but i didnt feel comfortable with that being a hunting rifle. Groups titened back up with a .120 jump. Furthest i have loaded away from the lands. When i get a chance to go through my notes i will give an exact.

This rifle was built by a friend of mine. Hes been building for himself for a while, and he just started his own business building custom rifles (precision craft rifles). He took my old winchester model 70 30-06 and turned it into this beast. Im shooting 53 grains of h4831 at 2925fps. It has a razor gen 2 scope on it.
-
It's a sendero contour, and I think it weighs right at 10lbs bare bones.
-
I just had a 6.5 284 built on a winchester model 70 action. Has a 28" bartlein barrel. Shoots 140 grain bergers at 2923fps with 53 grains of h4831. Holds 1.4" groups at 560 yards.
-
ill take the 6.5mm 142 grains.

I am going to buy a new one in the next couple of weeks, I was just hoping someone on here might have one and want to sell it. I would rather go used but they are hard to find used.
-
I have looked at them. I tend to look at what the top shooters in the world are using. I'm using a bartlein barrel and a McMillan stock because they tend to be used by the top shooters in the world right now. The razor is the second most used scope, behind the Schmidt and Bender. I don't think you can go wrong with the Valdada, razor gen 2, or nightforce atacr f1. This will be going on a custom 6.5 284 that is currently being built. My stock was shipped today. I cant wait to get this thing put together.

I use the gutless method without a bone saw. you can do everything with a knife, including cutting off the legs at the knee.
