Thanks for the advice guys. I'll give up on the 200's and take that monster bull down with some 180 barnes.

I have a bushnell 400, the old leica 1200, have used the leupold, and nikon, and now have the swaro el range. As just a pure rangefinder goes other than the swarovski the leica is by far the best. I love the quality of the optics and how easy it is to see the led readout in low light conditions. The Leica 1200 consistantly ranges deer out to 900 yards easily. On cool days or overcast days it seems to do better and will range bushes and trees past 1200 yards. Definatly go with the leica, go used if you cant afford a new one.

I'm with you cats. Don't get me wrong the azgfd does alot of good, but sometimes they need their head examined. There just isn't any consequences for their actions. The right thing to do would be to give you a tag for next year but I dought that will happen. It must be frustration to wait that long to get your tag and then spend thousands of dollars scouting and prepping for your hunt to chase the one goat that you set your eyes on and to have the azgfd chase that goat completely out the area. Don't wory, I'm sure another goat tag is just 20 years away.

I've been in your situation before and it is plain bs. The game and fish made their count and noticed that the buck you were hunting was nice and they wanted to look at it as much as they could. I had a similar thing happen to me in 24a and a hellicopter. I had stocked this nice mule deer for several hours walking around the mountain that he was on and coming in from behind the deer. When I was about a 100 yards out a hellicopter flew over and hovered over the deer for about a minute and then flew off. He stayed high enough so that they didn't spook the deer to bad. All the deer were in plain sight, so there was no need to take a second look right? wrong. As I was crawling in position to get a shot at the nicer buck, the helicopter came back and hovered over the deer at about 50 ft. He was low enough so that I could easily have hit them with a rock. Of course the deer were spooked this time. There was no need for them to come back and take a second look or to get that low. Same as with in your case to continue to circle your buck. They could have counted your buck after the hunt or that same day without spooking him nearly as bad. They just don't care about your hunt or anybodys hunt.

Depends what you want to spend. I have a mark 4 fron focal and love it. But if I was buying again I would buy a night force or save up and get the schmidt and bender.

wow great price. Somebody should jump all over this.

I have used the claw to take two animals now, an antelope and a coues, both at 400 yards. My 300 um is a true 1000 yard rifle and the claw didn't effect the accuracy by clamping to the stock. I can get a better rest with it than with my harris bipod. I also have used it to sight in instead of setting up a bench. You do need a decent tripod and head for a good base. You can't go wrong with it, much better than a bipod. If you use shooting sticks to support the rear of the rifle at the same time, its like the rifle is sitting in a vise.

I am trying to find a new load for my 300 um, and was wondering if anybody here has used vihtavuori powder and if so what they thought about it. Thanks for any of your help.

What weird stuff have you glassed or happen well glassing for game?
RHINO replied to seek100plus's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
One time I was glassing in the 3bar area and noticed several ridges over on a road a full size school bus was driving up the ridge. Of course he got stuck at switch back. That road has one way in and one way out. I would have been pissed if my truck was parked above him. Last year my dad had a trail camera that seemed to be tampered with. It was in a lock box and had a solar panal. The solar panel was yanked off the tree and the cables were destroyed. All the way back to camp we were thinking that we hope that there iwere pictures of that sob that did the damage. Sure enough we had them front and center, a cow that had the solar panel leads in her mouth and chewing them. -
The sad part of 30-378's story is that they had hovered over the deer the first time at a higher distance and made their count without disturbing the nice buck that 30-378 and I were getting real close to. Then as we were closing the distance the helicopter came back and hovered at probable less than 100' above the deer and chased them off. There was no need to get that close or come back the second time other than to just look at the nice buck that we were about to shoot. Now if any of us had flown in there with our plane just to observe we would get the book thrown at us.

A few years ago I was drawn for my second choice javalina tag when there were leftover tags on my first choice. And this year I didn't get drawn in the first go round so I put in for the left over tags. When I called in to see if I got drawn they said that they never got my application. After talking to the third person that was confused why they didn't get my application, I informed her that I had put a tracer on it and that they indeed got my application at 8:51 am on monday morning. All of a sudden they found my long lost application and said I didn't get drawn. I call bull crap. They kept blaming me why they did'nt have my app untill I divulged that I had a tracker on it. You never know what answer you are going to get and which answer is bs and which one is true.

left over tags draw? when do we know results?
RHINO replied to vegasjeep's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
They lost my app. Said they didn't get it. Problem with that answer is that I sent it priority mail with tracking, and it had a confirmed delivery of 8:51 am monday morning. -
I am looking for a new load in my 300 ultra mag, and I was wondering if anybody has used vihtavuori powders, and if they had any success.

+1 on that 30-378 for sale. I have shot that rifle several times. I'm not sure what brake he has on that thing but it makes it so smooth. I was amazed when it pushed out 165 grain factory amo at 3766fps and a .25 inch group at 100 yards. If you want to cut through all the crap of trying to put one together, just pm 30-378shtr. His rifle is the only rifle I've shot that I like more than my 300 um.

I have a 7mag and 300 um. I prefer my 300. People keep complaining about the recoil, but its just not bad at all. I don't know what everyone is so afraid of. My 7mag is an ultra light and it kicks about the same as my 300 um sendero. Both are very accurate, but if I had to choose one or the other I would difinatly pick the 300 um.

I'm selling my dream rig. This thing has been a great truck. Its a fully loaded powerwagon, four door leather, wich and all. Ill post pics as soon as I take some, probably tomorrow. Will also consider a trade with cash on an older tahoe or similar.
-
Im reducing the price to 23000. You won't be disapointed with this truck. Runs and looks great, and performs offroad unbelievably. It is 100% stock other than the spray in bed liner. It has a remote 12000 pound winch and alot more.
-
Im asking 25K, will entertain reasonable offers, or trade and cash of older diesel or full size suv.
-
here are some pics that I took a while back. I will take some in and out photos when I get back from my scouting trip this weekend.
-
I can't believe nobody has jumped all over your rifle. That thing is a dream to shoot.
