Beautiful rack and mount. What does he score and who did the mount? Mark

Never use a steel brush on a barrel, use only bronze. Steel can scratch and damage the barrel. You can scrub as much as you want with a bronze brush. I would use Sweets 7.62 and a bronze brush, and let it soak for a couple hours at a time. Keep working it, you get the copper fouling out and your initial accuracy back. Keep doing it until the patches are blue and no longer green. Don't let it soak for more than 2 or three hours with out patching it out. Also, check the crown to see if it is damaged. Years ago when I first started shooting, I shot hundreds of rounds out of a 3006, without cleaning, and it went from 1" groups at 100 yards to 10' groups. The sweets 7.62 brought back to 1". Good Luck! Mark

Trail Cam Features
bowsniper replied to scoutm's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
You should have no problem using a digital camera as a viewer as long as it accepts the same memory card. I have done this. A trail cam without a viewer is cheaper and less painful to have someone steal. Mark -
Very cool, very impressive. Great photography! Thank you for sharing! Mark

Put some cameras out

Keven, Keep them off water and locked with a chain, and you'll do fine. I put out three today myself. Mark -
After staring after my September 2006 mount that I got back on Sunday, I have decided that I don't like the taxidermey work. The eyes are too wide and looking too forward. Here's a picture of the mount (on the right) and a picture of when I took him. Do you guys think that I am being too picky? I put hundreds of hours into scouting and hunting this guy, and I'm really dissapointed. Can the taxidermist (if he is willing) adjust the form to make the mount look more like the orginal? The taxidermist is well known and highly regarded (by most). I was looking at his web page and all of his coues seem to have this look. Thanks for your comments. Mark

Unhappy with my new coues mount
bowsniper replied to bowsniper's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I am unhappy with it because to me the eyes look much different than the animal in the picture with me. But from what people are saying, the only way to fix it would be to use a different cape. To me, that would be worse than putting up with the eyes the way they are. If I am wrong, and the deer's eyes can be fixed while keeping the original cape, somebody, please let me know. Couestaxi, what is your opinion? Thanks, Mark -
Great set up! I see a big bull in your future! Mark

Unhappy with my new coues mount
bowsniper replied to bowsniper's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Boy, you can say that again Mike. I spent a couple of hours studying the coues mounts in cabelas last night. BTW, if you haven't noticed, my avaitar is a picture of this buck a few weeks before I got him. Thanks for all your comments guys. Mark -
When it comes to fishing, I am completely worthless. But my boys, 7 and 11, want dad to take them fishing, so I could use some suggestions. I'd like to take next them weekend, some where in AZ, maybe 6000 feet or higher, hopefully not with horades of other campers. Moderate 4WD or on the reservation is fine. I'm not looking for monster fish, just some place the kids could catch a few despite their worthless old man. Any suggestions? PM me if you like. Thanks guys, Mark

Thanks guys for your ideas. Is there info online about fishing conditons around the state? Thanks again, Mark

Scott is a great guy and a long time contibutor to this forum. It would just be a neighborly thing to do if your were planning a purchase there anyway. Mark

Thanks Stanley for the link. I put in for Archery Bull, but no luck. The good news is that now nothing will be distracting me from archery coues!! Mark

Is there a link to check on line? I'm in AZ and haven't been following the draw. Thanks, Mark

Dirty Rotten Thief
bowsniper replied to lucky2hunt's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Bummer man. I haven't lost one yet, but I figure it's not a matter of if, but when. I use a heavy chain on mine, so I figure that if they can't steal it, they will destroy it. I hope that your luck improves. Mark -
I picked up my September 2006 buck from the taxidermist yesterday. Here is a picture: Here is a picture with the December 2004 buck. I have never really compared two mounts side by side, so I was a little surprized to see the different facial features in each buck. I'm trying to decide, are the bucks really that different looking in the face, or is the difference in the different taxidermists that I used for each? Mark

Ernesto, This type of mount is called a pedistal mount. I don't know if the form was cut to do the mount, but I can take some pictures of the back side if you like. Let me know. Mark

The Phoenix meeting had about 30 people attend, 3 anti-hunters, and a lot of BS and lip service from the fish police. Mark -
Over the counter Youth Turkey Hunts
bowsniper posted a topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I was listening to Anthony Chavez, of the AZ Fish Police, informally talk to a few hunters at the AZ Elk Society Wapiti weekend this last weekend. Someone asked him about the Over the counter Youth Turkey Hunts. He said that it was a "done deal". Gee, I thought that the hunter input meetings were still going on!? As a mater of fact, I was going to the one in Phoenix tonight. I guess that the fish police already know what the hunting public wants, so they don't have to wait for the hunter feedback at the meetings. Is there any point in going to these meeting other than to whine and complain? Don't get me wrong, I have two kids and I'm delighted about this proposal. But that's not the point. The point is that these meetings and hunter input are bogus. Mark -

Even though I am convinced that they will do what they want to regardless of hunter input, I'll be at the PHX meeting to gripe. Mark -

I hate to be a pessimist, but I too believe that the AZ Fish Police will do what they want to do regardless of any public input. This “public input” is just a standard government process to cover themselves after they do what they want. I’ve been through this process with the forest service many times, and the result is always they same. They ignore public input, and pick their “preferred alternative”. That being said, everyone who can should still show up to the bogus meetings and give them an earful, just so they know that we think their new rules stink and are bad for AZ hunting. Garth, are you going to make it to the BBQ Friday night? We’ll be there. Mark -
