killed by a stinkin' "illegal" alien

My prayers for the family. This makes me sick. The liberals are dooming this country. Mr. Napolitono refuses to protect our boarders. Forget the fence, we need to start putting in landmines. Mark -
This is the way it use to be........1959 and now............ 2010 Scenario 1: Jack goes quail hunting before school and then pulls into the school parking lot with his shotgun in his truck's gun rack. 1959 - Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack's shotgun, goes to his car and gets his shotgun to show Jack. 2010 - School goes into lock down, FBI called, Jack hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers.. Scenario 2: Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school. 1959 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies. 2010 - Police called and SWAT team arrives -- they arrest both Johnny and Mark. They are both charged them with assault and both expelled even though Johnny started it. Scenario 3: Jeffrey will not be still in class, he disrupts other students. 1959 - Jeffrey sent to the Principal's office and given a good paddling by the Principal. He then returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again. 2010 - Jeffrey is given huge doses of Ritalin. He becomes a zombie. He is then tested for ADD. The school gets extra money from the state because Jeffrey has a disability. Scenario 4: Billy breaks a window in his neighbor's car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt. 1959 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college and becomes a successful businessman. 2010 - Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy is removed to foster care and joins a gang. The state psychologist is told by Billy's sister that she remembers being abused herself and their dad goes to prison. Billy's mom has an affair with the psychologist. Scenario 5: Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school. 1959 - Mark shares his aspirin with the Principal out on the smoking dock 2010 - The police are called and Mark is expelled from school for drug violations. His car is then searched for drugs and weapons. Scenario 6: Pedro fails high school English. 1959 - Pedro goes to summer school, passes English and goes to college. 2010 - Pedro's cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against the state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English is then banned from core curriculum. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English. Scenario 7: Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the Fourth of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle and blows up a red ant bed. 1959 - Ants die. 2010 - ATF, Homeland Security and the FBI are all called. Johnny is charged with domestic terrorism. The FBI investigates his parents -- and all siblings are removed from their home and all computers are confiscated. Johnny's dad is placed on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again. Scenario 8: Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him. 1959 - In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing. 2010 - Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy. This should hit every email inbox to show how stupid we have become!!

I agree. I have had one since they came out 15? years ago. The proficiency part of the permit class is a joke, (Can you hit the broadside of a barn?), but the legalities portion of the class is very useful. In a nutshell, everything you should consider before you shoot somebody, and if you do shoot someone, keep your mouth completely shut until you talk to your lawyer. The poll question needs to be re-phrased, "Are you for or against, yes or no" don't work. Mark

A Wee Little Change in Our Country

I can't listen to talk radio anymore. My blood pressure will peg and I'll stoke out, or just fall over dead from a heart attack. We can only hope that the sheeple in this country can remember until November. Mark -

I grew up driving in snow, but I'm not as good as I thought I was. Sunday I was cruising through the forest at 7000 feet doing some scouting. I'm driving my Toyota 4wd pu with new BFGs ATs, and life is good! I'm following quad tracks but I'm cutting through easy. I'm conservative, so at the first sign of problems, I put the chains on all 4 tires and retreat. But no problems today, so I drive in about 4 miles and spend the day hiking around in the rain and sleet. I got the forest to myself, it's great! I leave late in the afternoon, the snow seems different, so I put chains on all four tires. Five minutes later I'm high centered and buried in my own tracks from the morning. I spend an hour digging out and 5 minutes later I'm buried again. Is this really the same road I came in on this morning? I call up my good buddy, willhunt4coues, and he calls a tow company for me. As an added bonus, I find a new fallen tree blocking the road as I'm hiking out to meet the tow. Is this really the same road I came in on this morning? It's about 7pm when I meet the tow. He starts having problems, so we retreat to town for a different truck. At 10pm we finally get to into my truck, and the tow truck gets stuck. Is this really the same road I came in on the morning? We hike out 3 miles, and get back to his other truck at 1am. We come back the next morning with two more trucks a two more guys. Both trucks get stuck within a half mile. Is this really the same road I came in on yesterday morning? We give up. My truck and one of the tow trucks are still up there waiting for the Spring thaw. So any guesses what changed? Was I on drugs when I drove in? The snow was a little wetter from the rain, but no deeper in the afternoon. I cruised on in in the morning, but kept getting high centered on my way out. Must have been a different road...................... Mark

If you have a few minutes to watch this and haven't seen it already, it's well worth it! CNN tries to ridicule a car dealer giving an ak-47 voucher away with a new car purchase, but it goes terribly wrong for CNN. Mark http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/newswort...html#post322479 -
Charleau Gap Destruction
bowsniper replied to coues7's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
What he said! I certainly do not fault you for your views. My job as an engineer is dependent on NASA, so of course, I am all for the space program. You, as a civil engineer for the Forest Service, and me as a selfish, avid hiker and hunter, who likes to get away from roadhunters, slob stand jumpers, game camera thieves, vandals, drug runners, illegals, will argue forever about what is road "construction" and what is road "maintenance". It's hardly realistic to build FS roads all over the entire state to ensure that all forests can be accessed by fire vehicles. Justifying the Charleau Gap new road construction as a fire road is bogus. Besides, the Forest service generally has a "let it burn" policy for difficult access areas, unless the fire might endanger structures or commercial interests. Brian, what most of the public doesn't realize is that is that Forest Service roads ARE NOT built for public access. Do you really think that the roads are built for you and me to go hunting and bird watching??!! Most are built for commercial access, logging, mining and ranching. Granted, some are built for fire control and maybe a very few for recreation. But think about it, why are forests crisscrossed with dozens of roads over lapping each other? Commercial logging. Why does a forest service road turn into a dead end going nowhere? An old mining claim. Why do so many forest service roads end at cow tanks? Grazing permitties and public land ranching. Eventually, when the commercial interest die out, road maintenance becomes a liability, and the Forest Service closes the road(s). You said yourself: Don't get me wrong, I'm not preaching against multiple use. But when you said "but don't forget the Charleau Gap is public land and therefore should be accessible to the public", you really meant " but don't forget the Charleau Gap is public land and therefore should be accessible to COMMERCIAL USERS!" (in this case, the permittie) So please stop slinging the same old ancient forest service crap that the roads are built for "public access", so Henry and Mable Tourist can take their kiddies on a picnic in the forest and watch the little animals. It is tax dollars providing a commercial subsidy. Call a spade a spade. And maybe a subsidy is ok for some cases, just quit hiding behind this bogus rationalization that forest service is building a road for hunters, weekenders, bird watchers, and oh my gosh, what a coincidence! What do you know, even the permittie can use the road too!!!! No hard feelings! Mark -
Don't know if it's true, but I'm sure he would have said it if he had the chance! Mark

Charleau Gap Destruction
bowsniper replied to coues7's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Yes I am from Phoenix. Yes I am familiar with Charleau Gap. I know that you country boys don't like us city boys commenting on YOUR "backyard" public land use. I am not a civil engineer (I am a lowly EE). But, I think that it may be a little unusual to use hydraulic jack hammers to remove tons of rock for "road maintenance". It is what it is, road construction. The majority of the public are not permitees, either. Also, I seriously doubt that the majority of the public even knows, cares or will use the road. Hunters, off-roaders, and the one and only permitte are the majority of public users of the road. Certainly not. You said "Charleau Gap is public land and therefore should be accessible to the public". Are you suggesting that ALL public land should be accessible to the public by road? The Forest Service Multiple Use Policy mandates that public land be allocated for all types of uses, including land for limited road access. Like I said, I am no Civil Engineer, but "road maintenance" usually consists of maybe a grader, a front end loader and aggregate. Not so sure about hydraulic jack hammers to remove tons of rock. Not at all. Your post was written in forest service "language". It was a simple question, I just wanted to know if you worked for the Forest Service, or if you had quoted them. I do apologize for embarrassing you. From your response, it is obvious that I brought up several issues, especially public land leasing, that you are not familiar with. (Speaking of "Kind of embarassing", it is really not that difficult to use the spell checker when you post. It underlines misspelled words in red for you) I am always willing to stand up and fight against any government agency that caters to special interests (in this case the permitte) and continually abuses and wastes my tax dollars with bogus justifications and predetermined decisions. I am still waiting to hear why this road is needed when our government is bankrupt. When oppositional groups like the left wing Center for Biological Diversity and four-wheel-drive groups join to together to oppose a forest service "project", it should really make everyone stop and think. You really don't need to be a genius to see through this one. Mark -

Charleau Gap Destruction
bowsniper replied to coues7's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
OK then, why don't we just build a complete grid system of roads so all public land can be accessible to the public. This is not "road maintenance", this is road construction. This seems contradictory. You just said "public land and therefore should be accessible to the public." How long have you worked for the Forest Service? So let me get this straight: The FS decided that many roads are unnecessary and are closing them. What about losing public access to these areas? But you said, "Charleau Gap is public land and therefore should be accessible to the public." So lets build a new road! I wish I had the Forest Service budget! Maybe this is some of obama's stimulus money that he is priniting? Yes, many groups: road hunters, drug runners, illegals, but mostly the permitee. (rancher, to those of us who do not work for the Forest Service) Don't forget the Range Con, if he ever even bothers to go up there. I admit it: I'm selfish. I like hunting wilderness areas, roadless areas, and difficult access areas. I like hunting away from roadhunters, slob stand jumpers, game camera thieves, vandals, drug runners, illegals, and renegade G&F officers. I have a lot of experience working with the forest service, and I have heard the "Many groups will benefit" story many times before. But most of the time it just comes down to spending hundreds of thousands of dollars so the permitee (who pays a enormous $1.20 per cow per month) can have an easier ride to HIS cows on OUR public land. Even if you don't believe me, what kind of sense does it make to close down roads, but then build new ones, when our government is bankrupt? Mark -
It's a well maintained FS road, utility trucks need to use it to maintain transmitters on the peak. Very little mud. Good tires, new BFG ATs. The snow was mostly 2 inches to 15 inches in shady spots. The tires and chains never really hit the dirt/mud, I just high centered on the snow, with the wheels spinning. I wondering if in the morning when he snow was dry and light, it just pushed out of the way, and in the afternoon when it was wetter, that it piled and damned up underneath?

Clay, thanks a bunch! The tow guy, Ray, is a good old boy, and I made a new friend. If it was the Frozen soil, why was it still impassable the next morning? The over night temp was about the same as the day before. Mark

Quiet and comfort are most important. If you are not comfortable, you will make noise. I use a cheap lawn chair along with the padded treestand seat. I haven't had any problems with arm rests. If you are only shooting out of one side of the blind (for scent containment) you will do ok without a swivel chair. I also always line the floor with and old felt sleeping bag. It really reduces the noise and is good for the kids to sleep on. Mark
