yes as of now... if you want it - please call us - 480-621-5555 -
Last week I was up in the area of BS Gap on The San Carlos and as usual there were a fair number of turkeys talking at sunrise and sunset. But, notably worse than in years gone by, there were a boatload of hunters - camps all over. I probably should have bailed immediately, and eventually did, but I'd come this far so I decided to give it a go. Morning hunt is ready to begin. It's moonlight only walking and I hear a lone tom calling. I head off his direction. I cut the distance and he calls again. In total I walk about 1/2 mile into a small drainage full of mixed trees and mesquite. I get to what I can best figure is about 200 yards from his roost and I sit down. As the sun begins to light the horizon I hear him drop off the roost. I immediately hen chirp and he lights up. He's interested so I keep him talking - back & forth we go. He's coming my way and getting louder and then he hangs up. He keeps gobbling but he's not closing the gap anymore. As the sun comes up I can see him about 100 or so yards away strutting on the edge of a small ditch full of rocks & brush - and he absolutely doesn't want to cross it. It's a situation that won't fix itself so I begin the big circle to get around the ditch and finish the job. I figured all of the gobbling this tom was doing could and likely would bring a few hunters my direction, but I didn't imagine what was coming next. Uphill from the turkey about 300 yards there's a road, and on that road a Toyota Tundra, and in that Tundra a dude stopping-starting-stopping-starting and calling out the window of the truck. The sound of the truck made the tom stop talking, but I knew it was a matter of time before he lit up and talked again. The Toyota was rolling past - he just needed to keep rolling - keep rolling - keep rolling - and right on cue the tom gobbles not once but TWICE. Optimistically, I thought - well - maybe he didn't hear it... The guy dynamites the brakes - rocks are crunching as the truck skids to a stop - his morning wake-up beer is likely tossed all over the dashboard and the driver's side escape hatch pops open. The guy leaves the door open and the truck running and Bozo starts running - yes RUNNING - downhill with what I later learn is a pump shotgun in one hand and a slate call in the other (not sure how that's gonna work). I think well, I'm not letting this stupid Hail Mary mess go his way and I walk directly toward the turkey and push him up the opposite hill and out of the area. As the turkey runs off, lard azz Bozo the Clown shows up and asks me "what in the f are you doing". To which I replied - really man? you're wearing mismatched sweats that are too small, you didn't tie your boots, your truck is running in the middle of the road with the door open, your gun safety sucks, and you want to know what I'm doing? Go back to camp, get ready and try again. This is considered a fail. Start over. He called me every name in the book under his breath as he made his way back uphill to his truck. He even spun the tires for effect on his way out. Solid moron. The perfect portrait that anti-hunters love to paint. I truly hope he eventually went home empty handed.

Turkey Road Warrior - Ultimate Road Hunting Pro Edition
Healy Arms replied to Healy Arms's topic in The Campfire
How does what should be a funny-encounter thread about a sloppy mess of unprepared wannabe turkey hunter, workin' his lazy road hunter tactical skills like a big dog (a true professional) unwind into this? Lordy Lordy - I don't know 270 and Nature Girl, but I can only imagine if their collective memories are being invoked. Nothing to gain. Time to holster the keyboard and walk away..... -

How was your hunt on the Carlos trphyhntr? Was I at least right on the Ding Dong? Or was it a Twinkie?Dang 16 posts and already stirring the pot. Turkey hunters are very sensitive it appears. Did you end up gettIng one Healy Oh yeah - smacked one two or three canyons safely away from The Turkey Commando And bought a 2018 tag -
10 is progress - tons of time before fall hunting. I'm working MyFitnessPal like a champ - cut calories and lay down the miles
-
As I was cranking out bar dips and sit ups this morning I wondered - why do I do this? So many easier ways to "hunt" than walking... But, alas - I plan to actually hunt this year. Therefore, I have a plan for the summer to be ready for that endeavor. Down more weight - slow and steady. Workouts have been spot on. Strength up. Miles on my feet steadily increased. I tore thru the miles on my turkey hunt. I'm headed out for a week of volcano hiking (part of the fall hunting plan). Not sure what to expect regarding terrain. We shall see.

Turkey Road Warrior - Ultimate Road Hunting Pro Edition

Well - he's running down the hill with both hands full, no pockets to put anything in and he never stopped to pause and call. He ran - with his boots untied and presumably with a loaded shotgun - all the way from the truck to the brush pile the turkey was in full tilt. The whole scene was quite a show. I will guarantee you his license and tag weren't "on his person" - he tried to put the call in his pocket until he realized he didn't have one. A slate call and a pump shotgun go together quite well - in the right circumstances. -
Beretta M9A3 It had been so long since we got the last one I thought these were out of production. But, alas, we just received one. If you're interested please call the store - 480-621-5555 - and scoop it up over the phone. If it sits in the case for more than an hour or two a walk-in will buy it.

That's currently not an option as the deal I had to sign up for was for 9mm guns. If they do something in the near future that allows me to order some 40's I will let you know. We should blow through these pretty quickly and I'll be back on the horn with them.- 3 replies

Hi Amanda - I'll call you about this one. Mine is showing it's age and I just looked for the part number - it's out of production. If I can put the pan/tilt I already have on it, it sounds like a deal.
-
I use a Manfrotto Gitzo Weekender Compact G1026 with an Outdoorsman pan/tilt trigger head. It's been a solid set up for 20 years. It's old enough that I wonder if it's even a tripod still in production. With the legs fully extended it's about 5.5 feet tall and you can use it sitting on the ground or a compact chair.

More than anything, a calorie surplus is what makes you fat, not sugar. I tried telling people this when this sub forum first opened, didn't go that well. I came around to your way of thinking and have been - slowly - losing weight ever since. When I watch the MyFitPal and create a deficit I lose weight. Calorie deficit has been the most consistent solution. Best part - I can leave it for a bit and have a big weekend and when I go back to it, the results are absolutely immediate.
-
That's right around the corner from where I live. Dojo at Warner and Alma School. Did you guys every meet up? Mornings? Evenings? You're in my 'hood. I'd like to swing in sometime if that's cool.

I'm in the same boat - my eating was mostly good but "mostly" doesn't cut it when cutting weight. Down only a half lb this week. Workouts still headed in the right direction. I could leave today for my elk hunt and be perfectly okay with the cardio level I'm currently achieving. Anyone active on this thread started very very early getting ready for fall hunting - we'll all be JUST fine and well ahead of the pack if we keep it up.

That face she makes toward the end is the troubled face a media stooge makes when the interview goes unrecoverably off-script. She wanted to fade to black and cut him off. She had nothing to say. She knows he's right and could learn from his experience. But she refuses to leave the script long enough to become enlightened by a man actually living through the civil war she's "reporting" on. He could even tell by the awkward pause she was about to cut him off and he pleaded for more time to finish his piece. Sad really

A buddy of mine stopped by a fitness clothing shop to buy some birthday presents for his wife. She is a VERY fit woman (him, much less so) and in need of a few new running outfits. The lady at the store told my friend she could direct him to the right department but had a few questions. She prodded him several times about the "running" that his wife did and after asking the same question about six different ways, when finally my buddy says HEY - she runs - a lot - she just finished a 13.1 pushing a stroller - why do you keep asking about her running? To which the lady replied: I'm just making sure I send you to the right department. I wondered if she needed athletic clothing or if she needed ATH-LEISURE clothing.
-
So there I am at the outlet mall, getting some self-depricating jokes out of my new found word - asking for ath-leisure gear everywhere I go and some lowlife steals my bag of shoes. However - sucks to be him - I was wearing the new ones. Hope you enjoy those sweaty broke-down good only for floating the river shoes.

For the men and women who serve/served in the military - we have a lot of Smith & Wesson handguns on the shelf - ready to go. If you happen to want a model we don't have, just ask. We'll make it appear. -
Oh - that pound... It's gone. A couple of grilled chicken and salad days handled it. Piece of cake - Back on track.
-
Purposely lost my fitbit and locked myself our of MyFitnessPal - went hunting for a couple days and then a birthday weekend - both included too many calories. But I stayed on the workout schedule, walked a boatload of miles and managed to only gain JUST ONE li'l ol' pound. Back at it this week. Ratcheted up and changed up the workouts and back to clean on the eating. I have a some long & steep hikes coming up in May (just 5 weeks away) and that Unit 23 elk tag on my mind. My cardio was good while out hunting & walking hills but I'll always take an improved set of numbers.
