I must be in a sour mood, because I Dont think they should have extended the deadline. If you waited until the last day, you knew you were taking this chance; they even advertise not to wait because this might happen. I think they opened the door on this one and should have kept it closed.... Just my .02 at the moment.

Hey folks. Just wanted to thank everyone to offered up some info to help out my sister. We hunted pretty hard this last weekend. We did come across some cows, and nearly got a shot but we just couldn't get her set up to where she felt comfortable. We had a great time and managed to see some cows, one nice bull, a bunch of antelope, some deer, fox, coyotoe and a herd of javelina. Hopefully we will get out next weekend and have get her another chance.

Well....I called my sister up yesterday to see if she was all ready for her hunt coming up (Unit 10 late cow). Figured everything was good to go and then she told me that her husband has to work and they cannot afford for him to take the time off. She was pretty bummed until I offered to take her out on the weekends. I have never been on the late hunt and can only imagine that it will be a tough hunt. Anyone ever been on this hunt before? Any advice? She hasn't filled a elk tag in about 15 years and it sure would be nice to break the drought. PM's welcome. Thanks folks, -Millhouse

This past weekend I was able to take my nephew on his first archery bull elk hunt. We had a lot of action on Saturday and he was able to arrow his first bull elk on Saturday evening. The shot was 24 yards, but not perfectly broadside. He had a pass-through and we watched the bull for about five minutes before walking out of sight. He was hurt and hurt bad. We waited an hour before tracking and found the arrow right away. There was a good size pool of blood and lung material that the bull had coughed up. We figured we had given the bull enough time, and pursued the trial. After about 60 yards we bumped the bull.......we could not believe he was still alive. We made the choice to head back to camp and return in the morning. It was not an easy choice, but one made easier by a thread that began here entitled "Leaving a Bull overnight" http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/34418-leaving-a-bull-overnight/ One of the things that really caught by attention that Coosefan said was "I'd rather lose some meat instead of the entire elk!" We found that bull at sunrise the next morning. After a very short celebration (and a sigh of relief), we instantly rotated the bull placing the downside up. Next, we made the cut Coosfan had mentioned down the back of the neck to the tail to cool meat off. Gutted, skinned and quartered the bull on the ground and found that he hit one lung and hit the liver. The bull was filled with blood from internal bleeding. We got the bull to the butcher (Casey's actually) and did not loose any meat! I wanted to thank all of those who posted on that thread giving advice, especially COOSEFAN. I believe we did the right thing and wanted to thank you guys for helping us be able to handle a tough situation correctly. Thanks again guys!

Cool goal, good luck! What are the other two you got without a bow? What has been your most enjoyable so far?

Just wanted to pass this along (from the Coconino National Forest website): NOTICE TO HUNTERS Parking or reserving camping locations by leaving trailers, motorhomes, tents and other property is prohibited. Property left on the forest unoccupied is considered abandon after 72 hours. Tree stands need to be removed after daily use. Tree stands left unoccupied for any extended period of time is prohibited. Title 36 CFR 261.9(a) and 262.13. Currently there is no specific regulation regarding game cameras left in the forest. The FS does are not recommend leaving any property in the forest. Women's Coues Hunting Camp Nov 9-11, 2012
Millhouse replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Does anyone know where the camp will be at? Looking at getting a leftover tag for my wife and thought it would be good to know where they were planning on camping. Thanks. -
Do you think part of it may have to do with the units they are putting in for? Still pretty lucky!

I had the same problem last night. When I tried again this morning at 5:45am everything went through and I never got kicked out like before. Perhaps one of these days I will not wait until the last minute to take care of this stuff
