    Xmas Tree Cutting In Tonto?

There's talks of closing roads up on top of the rim. And at lunch the news said the snow level is supposed to be about 4500. Might wanna call ahead and double check conditions before hand... ...at the very least, go prepared and, let me know what you find, ha ha...were going next weekend

    Xmas Tree Cutting In Tonto?

I seen a bunch of spots, but now they changed it this year...its below the rim. We were either going to go below the 260 (on the road to young) or on the west side by the boy scout camp closer to pine. Hopefully its not all snowed over

    Help with Christmas tree tags

I went to the ranger station off of higley... I'd call and check for availability first. The gentleman that helped me said they were somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 tags opening morning. I went at lunch to get mine/ours, and there was a line out the door. this year, the tree cutting area is below the rim... which stinks... seen a lot of great looking trees on my buddy's elk hunt, in 4 a

    Walking or glassing

Like everyone else above has said,... glassing is key. When to glass isn't really a question... but where to glass is. On colder days youll find them out sunning, mid day or when its warm, they can tuck up under a tree. I like to give my brother a hard time, on a family outing ... we came across some javelina. At first glance, they looked like rocks... but taking a moment, they moved a little... We took the kids to the wildlife world zoo when that happened. Out in the hill side a funny looking rock might be a sleeping pig, perfectly still. that website someone mentioned above is awesome. I know this is an older post (just got my leftover 37 a tag, so getting excited and thought id cruise this forum) ... theres a current thread in the campfire about tracking old sign. Fresh poop, or old poop is hard to determine... or even worse fresh poop.... Ive hit the same spot two days in a row, only to have them poop in my boot tracks from the day before.

    Old State route 87

they trenched the road, then burmed the trench, then gated each side. You cand still get off and drive up to the gate on each side. i think from the south side, if you go psst the old adot building...you can take that dirt road all the way to the back of bartlett (?) its a trek though. We started scouting it once, but my buddy gave up. (i was just along for the ride , his tag and his scout trip). it was the early 90's becuase i remember seeing it. The top side is the 4 way of mt. ord

How To Determine How Old Scouting Signs Are

I remember my first deer hunt. I was so excited to find an area littered with sign... the older guy i was with showing me the ropes had this to say... "unless you see the deer putting those tracks down, there ain't no way to figure out how old they are". So my own strategy, especially if out hiking around. We normally look for an area with lots of sign... and try to hit it a few times. If you know youre going to be back in that same exact area... "sweep" a spot clean with your boot or a branch... then the next day you can check to see if theyre there. Javelina track in a wash is sometimes hard to read on the "freshness" scale. Sand does't hold a crisp edge... so it could be a day old track that looks older because of the crumbles.... come pared to trail dirt from a deer or turkey track

I'm shopping for a travel trailer - update

We upgraded my truck, then she picked out the "camper"... smart move on the used, had i known better... thats what i would have done. I'm surprised at how many little things go wrong. Weve had the trailer back to the dealer quite a few times for fixes. (some stuff, if i had to pay for it, i would have let it slide... but since it was under warranty, they got to fix it). We bought a starcraft bunk house. Its nice. Spent time in my buddy's jayco and another friends genesis (hey, i get around)... they both seem to have nicer features than the starcraft

    Leftover Tag Strategy

I was told previously... we had 20 b javelina tags. My buddy changed his mind and decided he wanted join us on the HAM hunt. He seen there were leftover tags. That particular year, he contacted azgfd. they said it had to be post marked friday.... if it was earlier than friday they "file 9'd" it

    The Hunt Recommendation Process

again,... how is it conflicting information. they talk about "extra hunters" in the video... at 3:10-to 3:40 of the video, they talk about filling units with hunters. ha ha then at 4:05-5:00 Even the wildlife biologist talks about the scarcity of animals. ---- One thing they don't mention is I had heard at one point, they have a "multiplier" for tags. for example: they need the herd size maintained. If in a particular unit, they need 100 animals to be removed, they issue 400 tags. Because they need 100 animals to be removed, but they don't expect 100 hunters to be successful, so they over issue tags** to get closer to the target. **Footnote: while my example is not specific, they might spread the abundance in tags out over an entire species, not one particular method of take (although it feels like it on most hunts). Spreading it between archery, rifle, youth, etc

    Bashas

I might be mistaken,... but Basha's covers the spectrum: Food city, Bashas, and then AJ's I remember as a kid in chandler it was bashas or safeway... then the city got bigger, and the competition moved in. My best friend works for Basha's still... it's neat to see the "ol' home town grocer"... Hopefully they can keep rolling. I know they did a bunch of restructuring and have closed quite a few stores
