  1. So this might sound like a desperate plea... For starters, this was my first season for hunting quail. being new and inexperienced i only got a few to show for it through out the season. (i didnt go out my first time till thanksgiving weekend.) I immidiately fell in love with it. I like being outdoors (like everyone else here) and i used each outing for quail as new adventure. I came back after my nearly 6 trips, with only 3 quail (total, yeah i know...pathetic). To make matters worse i always came back to my girlfriend who would ask, "and this is fun for you?, why do you want me to go with if you cant find anything?". Finally this past weekend (i had MLK day off and came back empty handed)... she said she wants to shoot the shotgun. (she is an avid hand-gunner, and a dang good shot... my own verison of "Annie Oakley") Does anyone know of a good mid day/afternoon spot for quail? I would love to take her out and let her experience the fun of going for quail, and the enjoyment of some success along with that. She works 2nd's sometimes into 3rd shift...so going out early in the morning wont work for her (it might be when she's finally coming home from work, and for my safety... she needs some sleep ha ha). I also know that its the tail end of a relatively bad season for quail. Shes been out for javelina and wants to do elk next season with me... i was just hoping to introduce her into the fine art of Quailing.

    Seeking a Hunting Partner in 37B Feb 2-13, 2011

we will be out there on frid-sunday.... not sdure where we will be camped, but if you dont wanna go alone, always nice to have extra eyes.... and i hear they usually travel in packs * (this is a joke, becuase the last units we were in they magically all disappeered for the duration fo the hunt weekend.)
  3. Has any one been out lately. (yeah i know Chrismas is next weekend, and priorities have shifted)... Just wondering if any one has been having any luck or knows where the hot spots are.
  4. Where did you go for quail? we took my friends son out for his first hunt two weeks ago and came into the same "low flying" quail. We seen them once then once they took flight they were only a foot or so off the ground. thanks for sharing the picture and the story. Cant wait to get my own bird dog

What unit are you in? ha ha ha next years draw!
  6. ive been out three times (the last three weekends in fact)...but those were my first three outings for quail, and all three trips were dual purpose. (javelina scouting x2, and "guy time" with my buddy who lost his mom to cancer). Not really knowing what im doing, its been fun, but not very succesful
  7. Im in the process of finding a bird dog. Am looking into a few different GSP's. Does anyone know of any open Bird dog clubs that would be an oppurtunity to get out and train/work the the dogs for birds? I know my aunt trains goldens in Conn and they belong to one. (this is more of a fact finding mission, until i get the dog)

    2011-37B, first time

Hey... so i got drawn for the 37b HAM this year. Any one have tips or areas to suggest to start scouting? Ive never hunted in here, but only four wheeled years ago by the box canyon/florence junction area. Been doing research online but not much info. Its a big area with lots of ground to cover. Tired of eating "tag soup" from hunts gone by! HELP PLEASE

    2011-37B, first time

Thanks for the website. (seen it last year, but forgot what the heck it was). Nope, just new to that area. Last year we did 22 (by Rye) and then years past we did 32 and camped outside of mammoth. I just havent hunted 37b. With all the tags in there though, should be a decent hunt. i got skunked on my javelina, turkey, and deer this year. So hopefully a new unit will bring the start to 2011 with a little brighter future
