So due to some unforseen circumstances, my girlfriend cant use her mule tag this time around. I know there is HOAL and other groups, but doens anyone have any experience with working with a specific group? And why did you choose them? I know its only a few weeks away, so i need to get the wheels in motion

of coarse i may be behind for some of you, but here was the inciweb from yesterday. Looks like they reopened the road on the 4th. {According to Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) officials, Hwy. 288 will re-open today at noon. Due to fire operations, it was closed last week from McFadden (milepost 290) south to the A-Cross Road (milepost 270). "We'd like to caution the public traveling on that stretch of Hwy. 288," stated John Thornburg, fire management officer. "ADOT crews will be performing maintenance and firefighters will be cleaning up the last debris from the fire along the portion that was closed."}

So, I keep hearing that the place to be for quail is up north of roosevelt lake. Well it just so happens that we got drawn for mule deer in 23, which is also just north of the lake. Planning a camping/scouting/quail trip for next weekend. Any body have any luck up that way? any ideas where to start? thanks Matt

Yeah BowHunt.... sorry my mistake. I seen the official press release about the workmans creek project after i posted, just didnt have time to correct my statement. Been up there numerous times and there has always been signs posted about the dangers of the radiation for the past few years

The armer mountain fire has officially been named the tanner fire. (http://www.inciweb.org/incident/2705/) as of the last posting it said they were only 10% contained but working hard to get the road reopened. The road is only closed from A-cross to Reynold's creek. Bonecollector, if you go up to the north half you can still drop down to below young (just a little longer). Good luck on your turkey hunt. We were planning to go scout for muley this weekend. Kinda bummed about what the fire will do n the next few weeks until they get it knocked out

BowHuntaz: Workmans creek area has signs posted up here year round. The tonto website said workmans creek area is closed due to construction, not due to "blinky," the three eyed fish. WadenAz: Thanks so much for posting this. We have tags for muley there also, and in fact due to scheduling i get a 4 day weekend this week... we were gonna head up and scout... serious change of plans since we cant get to the timberline to set up camp. BUNK! Little too warm to set up off the a-cross road.

maximus, i dont know which thread you are referring to. i know i have found one thread earlier in the season about heater safety. The Little Buddy brand heaters are suppopsed to come equipped with a Carbon monoxide alram, but in addition to that your local hardware store sells a battery operated one. I believe the original thread the person advised to purchase the secondary CO2 alarm, for safety. I know i posted a thread on here around april, asking for more information, if anyone had any experience with the battery operated monitors. My main concern is the package said it was only rated down to 40 degrees f. so on a cold elk trip i was concerned about the abillities of the alarm when the ambient temps can be down below 20 degrees. Any ways... coleman makes a model, theres the little buddy brand ( i bought one off of ebay from a guy in wisconsin) and im sure other brands that are equally effective. The catalytic heaters are safe for indoor supposedly... heres a link for you: http://www.outdoorplaces.com/gear/equipment/heat/

Scout A-LOT! We got that hunt last year. My buddy swears by that unit, and we've been for everything there in the past few years. Last years deer hunt was horrendous though. If i can recall i only heard of 4 deer. we followed some does but never found any bucks. Now that i scared you.... we always went through town, and then out 4th st ( Which turns into perkinsville rd which is also county road 73). Camped back in the locket tank vicinity. here is lots of water on the east side of Co73 (tanks, white horse lake, jd dam) so just have to work he spots. Forest road 108 (on the west) will work back up to I40 so theres spots and tanks back that way. The western area of he unit (by Ash Fork) is all scrub cedar, or so im told. Never ventured that far west.

I was lucky enough to have a four day weekend for the holiday. Spent the first two by upper lake mary, and then went on to woods canyon lake. The first day at woods canyon lake was decent (for the 4 of us), but with little action on my own pole i started picking up trash. Between me and another buddy within 30 minutes we had half of a 55 gallon trash bag filled up. Which leads me to a few thoughts: #1 does anyone on CWT know of any other outdoor groups that participate in a lake clean up? #2 Would CWT be willing to affiliate and or participate in an area* clean up? #3 Who would be willing to commit to helping out. My thoughts: i would either be willing to help another outdoor group clean up an area (much like they do in the 36b unit). Or if we could orchestrate a clean up effort hosted by CWT, id be willing to help with that also. I figure even if its just a single day event. Fish in the morning until the bite slows. spend a couple hours cleaning the lake and then hang out with some friends afterwords. With the rains that hit the rim over the weekend im sure the band will soon be lifted and it can be a good "something to do" on a camping trip. *Area: if it works out, or comes with any success we could do 3 or 4 different spots throughout the year (once every 3 or 4 months) Anyone else have any input? its our forest, lead by example, and another chance to show that hunters are more stewards of the land than harvesters.
