I have had two occurances. Once on a turkey hunt, we came across an elk carcass. It had been scattered by coyotes and the tines had been sampled as well. We propped it up at camp. Before the end of the weekend, we got to meet the local warden. lol. He asked if anything was uspicious or if we knew anything about it, asked where we found it. He wasnt interested in hiking to where we came across it. ha ha. Took my name and info down and said i was welcome to take it, since it didnt appear to be poached. (the guys at camp convinced me to leave it behind, though... wasnt that impressive with the gnarled tines). the second story i know involves a friend who came across an intact skeleton (seen the picture). Was met by game and fish at his door when he got home three days later. lol. Same story, no signs of poaching, was able to explain where and how he found out. Key to any game and fish warden (or any law enforcement) is to be as cooperative as possible. ha ha ha

So we took a leap of faith this year. Put in for 20B despite not knowing anything or having been in the unit at all. We (there's 4 of us) got drawn. I recently introduced my buddy to hunting, and we got skunked on turkey and whitetail. Despite no beginners luck for Steve (or my abillity to mooch beginners luck from him, lol)... he came back for more. After staring at the maps online, (acme mapper, az access) and doing a quick search, im kinda clueless as to where to begin scouting. First off, Can anyone here recommend a good "paper map" source for 20 B? I got spoiled with my flatline for 22n. Anyone have ny expereince wih the "hunt unit maps"? Anyone have any hints othe than "glass, glass, glass some more" for the area? ha ha. thats a learned method already. thanks for any and all info. Kinda hoping 3rd times the charm for Steve, before he gets accustomed to tag soup.... even if its on stink pig. Luckily for him (and us) he is pretty new to az so exploring a new part of the state is just as rewarding. thanks Matty

so is ron and noah from deer creek? Hopefully me and my brother will be in the same predicament in 2 weeks. that late bull tag in 22n.

RIGHT now, its only all online. This is due to the fat that the 2014 license process is undergoing the change. Outside vendors like walmart dont want to get the license books for the few months they will be under the "old/current" system. January 1st is a new form for the license. I did go to the office to pick up mine already. The process will eventually go to an online format. The change i would like to see is plastic. go away from a printed paper licesnse to a plastic hunter id card (like a D.L.)

Since you aren't after my bull, i can help. just kidding. when is your cow hunt? i've been very blessed this year (turkey, w-t, and bull all for 22n). I am heading up there next weekend for three days to look around again. My turkey hunt is oct 4th. And my white tail tag is the 24th (so i hope to go up at least once in between). I'd be happy to share information with you. the first weekends i went up were still pretty warm (85 ish) so no alot of movement. I agree with "MadMax 692". Control road and north to the rim. I went out by camp geronimo and found a cow middday walking the shoulder. Had to wait for her to cross actually. Going back to camp i seen some some cows along the control road between whispering pines and diamond point. There's been alot of "weather" since ive been up so anxious to go up next weekend and see whas happening there. Congrats on the successful draw to the first cow tag.

true.... originally i was planning on going up this weekend until i couldnt get time off from the 2nd job, and tha i also realized it was archery bull. Figure i would keep from interrupting someone else's hunt and wait a week. We heard them locking antlers on the oher side of a knoll from where we camped last year in unit 8 (about 50 yards from camp), on our turkey hunt.

my brother and i are gearing up for the late 22n rifle hunt (nov30). so stoked. our first set of bull tages. went up a few weeks ago, but it was still 85 during the midday witout a lot of movement. Going up nex weekend for the tail end of the rut, and to scout for the fall turkey tag. thaks for the renewed hope with all the pictures. I cant wait to get up there.

I've already been to game and fish (Mesa office), and the nice office staff's official answer was "huh, i dont know. that will have to be figured out." I explained to them my current situation (using my current 2013 license). I bought by my license in august 2012, for the following 2013 year. under the "new way". my 2013 license would be expired before my three (dont hate!) fall hunts. I purchase the following year license (as many others do) about september to put in for the feb javelina hunt. Tony is correct. She said purchase the 2014 license now, and nothing changes because the effective date for the new reg isnt until jan 1. Walmart, and other third party vendors, she informed me werent participating because there will be a new "book" for the 365 license on the new year date. So they are holding back until the new law goes into effect. I like the restructuring of the license system, minus the calendar/365 yr change. (yes, i know fees went up.... but depending on the license the complication went down.)

i seen this come through on "the outdoor hub" e-news. funny and heartbreaking for all those hunters.

Industrial Metal supply (48th st, between southern and broadway... almost due west of the tempe diablo stadium) has lots of variety. We go there for work and most of the time they have such a huge variety of remnants, we very rarely buy "new stock". everything from sacks of lead shot to structural stainless steel.

Chandler hunter found dead with gunshot wound Apache County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the death of a Chandler man after his body was found with a gunshot wound to the chest at a forest camp south of Vernon, authorities said. Around 5 p.m. Thursday, authorities received a call regarding an overdue hunter in the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest, according to the Apache County Sheriff’s Office. The hunter, whose name is being withheld, was found around 6:30 p.m. at the campsite his family said he was at, deputies said. The man had been hunting with a friend earlier in the week, officials said. When the friend left on Monday to return to work, the man stayed at the camp and told his friend he planned to return home on Wednesday. When the man did not return home, his friend contacted the Sheriff’s Office, authorities said. Investigators said there was no indication of foul play, and that the evidence indicates an accidental death. Deputies are still investigating to ensure nothing has been overlooked, said Sheriff Joseph Dedman.

here's another article from the republic: \ By Daniel Gaytan The Arizona Republic-12 News Breaking News Team Wed May 8, 2013 2:53 PM The death of a Chandler hunter has been ruled accidental, according to investigators from the Apache County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators said they believe that Charles Duane Pinney, 56, died from a single gunshot wound to the right side of his chest on April 30 or May 1. Pinney was hunting turkeys in the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest near Vernon, according to Sgt. Richard Guinn of the Apache County Sheriff’s Office. Guinn said a search for Pinney began when he did not return to his Chandler home on May 1. Family and friends gave directions to Pinney’s camping spot, where investigators found him dead on May 2. There was no indication of foul play or any disturbance, Guinn said.

I don't have cable, and typically dont watch tv, but was at my brother's in tucson this past weekend and got to see a few episodes sunday night. ... The only saving grace that show has to offer are the spuratic facts that appear in text, going ino commercials. Couldnt agree with you all more, that show is bad. An idiotic hunter is more damaging to our passions than an intellectual "anti".

Never been to Fogo's but been to two others like it (one in Albuqureque and one in Ahwatukee). I have dubbed it "meat bingo".... they walk around the place with skewers of meat, and if your little wooden thing is turned up they contiue to come around and bring different meats. And its good cuts like prime rib or stuff like that. The last time i was at a similar place they had 11 different varieties of meats. Where your stretchy pants.
