Meteor Shower tonight around midnight to 2 am
mbiewer replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in The Campfire
i was house sitting in san tan valley (so not too much light pollution), from where we were though we couldnt see any. My brother drove out to the desert on the edge of tucson and said he could see quite a bit -
So after 4 months of dating a single mom, our schedules have lined up to take her kids camping. Her son has gotten to go before with their dad, but her daughter hasn't gone before. My own tradition is a trip in june to the area below young, via globe and the 188. This is going to be the third year for going up. Much to the dismay of Emily, and other people going, i picked a spot that wasn't close to water. (normal trips involve kayaking and fishing). I know on the bottom of the 288, we cross over the headwaters of roosevelt lake. Has anyone ever fished here before? are there good spots? I don't really have the desire to drive around the horn up to the actual access for the lake. The thought did cross my mind that we could stop in the day use area there and ry to fish for a little while on the way through to share hat with the kids. My nephew who is six lives to fish, so not only would i get to share the experience with the two new additional kids, but it would really make his day to try a new spt as well. Thanks everyone, it will be a great trip regardless. Propane fire ring and all, a pretend fire will still cook marshmaollws lol

I imagine this is what happens on most of my hunts to some extent or another.... Animals are a lo smarter than we think. A bear gives a fine "screw you" to the trail cam and takes a snack. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8WcOcZsi8A

could be worse.... could be 5700 shots of beef licking their nostrils and trying to see what the camera tastes like. lol

is it diamond point? (forest road 65) by the gate to the fire tower, over looking the Earnhart ranch off the 260? (unit 22n)
-
my card never got hit. i gave up weeks ago. Luckily for me, one of the guys got the way-late 22n bull tag. It may not be my hunt, but i will make sure i still get to go and help him with everybit of his that i can. Matt

Did you know the results are actually up now, ha ha Matty
-
there's nothing in the regulations that say when the results must be posted. The only stipulation is that the refund checks must be mailed out by a preset date. it is our own impatience that leads us to jump to conclusions of "when the results need to be out" by. "If this says the 18th, then the draw must be done and published by the ____". screw it. Christmas wont come any sooner knowing what we did or didnt get. Season isnt for 5 months anyways.Nobody here has the right to complain about the draw till after the checks get mailed just tired of all the griping.

Looks like a solid deal. Still up for grabs?

Each and every hunt is memorable, luckily for my group, this past Javelina was even more so. In the years past my brother and i hunted with a bigger group down in 32. The group sort of disbanded and we forged out on our own. On a whim i invited my coworker steve t come out last fall for his first ever turkey hunt, then his first ever deer hunt. Luckily before the frustartion of not seeing any animals set in, i convinced him to put in for Javelina with us. One of the guys was convinced that crown king (or in that area) was where it was at. we dropped in for 20b. Time ran short as always, and i didnt get out to scout as much as i had hoped. We dideventually come to a consensus on where to camp. Monday before the opening Steve asked me if his son could go. I figured it was half "first man tirip" and in reality... bargaining chip for his wife. "Look i'll bring Christian with me if i still get to go". ha ha. Armed with his red rider Christian (9 yrs old) quickly earned the name "rapid fire". Good thing bb's are cheap. We worked one general area the first day. The next morning we made our way through to wickenburg. A late lunch on the side of the road on the way back to camp soon turned into the best decison ever. A rancher pulled up and asked us how the hunt was. Said we only seen a little bit of sign but so far no pigs. He directed us up a wash and said he found them earlier that morning. From the pavement, the area didnt look promising. flat, full of atv tracks so we continued up. Came across a bunch of dirt bikers and some camps. Was almost frustrating. We pushed on, and right about the time i was gonna suggest we get out to hike the hills and look around we rounded the bedn to a herd of a bout 12. By the time i got out of the jeep they were in the brush. Looked to see where Steve and my brother were at and to start the stalk. Tim went up the wash to watch for them to ridge out and come down the other side. Ben and steve started up into the flat (that had a horseshoe shaped ridge around it). I started blowing the J13 to see if they would come back. Steve's first shot was into the back hip and put the boar in 2 wheel drive. It snuck behind a tree to seek cover but luckily it came out and steve had a succesful harvest. That night camp grew a little with the addition of Seyha (Khmer6) and his son Petra. They came to see Steve's trophy, and help us with the herd. Unfortuately, even after canvasing the area for a couple different times in all different directions we never crossed that herd again for the rest of the weekend. All in all we had 5 tags, and only one javelina. Im grateful for the expereince of sharing Steves first javelina hunt with him and his son. Getting to make a new friend in Seyha, and another weekend of enjoying a new part of az. Special thanks to: Mule Packer BuckMaster21 SWDesertRat and HankSaidItBest These guys all tried to help contribute and give me tips about the area when i was behind the 8 ball for scouting and general starting points. ALl awesome guys to talk with. And Thanks to Khmer6 for braving a bunch of strangers for javelina camp with his 4 yr old. Hope we made it worth your while and made you feel like part of the group.

20b (i already pm'd you). 4 of us on a tag. My brother, my buddy, and my buddy steve with his tag along 9 yr old for his first "man outing". ha ha

I'd find a way to purchase this awesome deal, if TJ would be willing to finally teach me all his successful hunting secrets.....
-
Does anyone know the answer? TJ because 239 is just right.... and 1 more small bean.... will raise the count to "two hundred and farty"....
-
Because Edge.... as anyone here will attest to... enough time hunting, and the answer for sex will always be "no"

What's the craziest thing you have done while out hunting?

Frustrated on a turkey hunt in unit 8 on a turkey hunt one fall my buddy was looking for something to fill his weekend. After hearing about my opening day woes Bob made plans to come up for saturday. Enter the scene of a mutual friend and coworker (to both of us) also in our camp with a tag. Dean had a side conversation with bob about making the hunt. Bob was skeptical Dean was even going to bother. When i informed dean that bob was on his way saturday morning, The conversation at lunch before bob was set to arrive talked about being "over geared" for trips. (Basically bringing too much unnecessary junk). Long story short, we decided to prank Bob by sitting in our boots, skivies, and gun belts when he rolled into camp. Only problem was, we were camped up a ways from a dead end that had a fishing spot and outhouse on it, and apparently saturday mid day is a popular time at the roads end. We waved at a few random trucks that didnt happen to be Bob. On the positive side, no one seemed to mess with anything at our camp that trip.
