Amanda has been called out for the Ice Challenge
mbiewer replied to bonecollector's topic in The Campfire
hows about...just making the donation and putting the water in a dry elk tank somewhere. a desert is a desert and a drought is a drought really getting tired of the ice bucket stuff -
I had started a post on the same topic previously. I too have a flat line map. There is the drawback that no all the units are available. But holy crap are flatlines amazing. I bought mine for 22n last year. Got it home and me and my nephew (6 a the time) had it opened up on the living room floor as he was helping me plan my adventures. my 60# English pointer decided it was no obstacle to him as he walked across it. And Cj growing tired of my ramblings rolled onto it so he could go back to watching tv. Those things are rugged. Can still see the paw mark from the dang'd ol' dog too. but its perfectly fine. I started he thread to see if anyone liked the hunt unit maps or another brand, but seems everyone recommended flatlines

Technically, since I have a tag for both im not allowed to say anything. . Turkey is pretty thick there. This will be our first time in there. Scouting for a previous deer trip, the actual deer trip, and just camping seems like we always could shake a few turkey loose. When the draw came out I gleaned the internet for info. One post from 2009 from one of the sights said any road at the top of the unit has turkey. Obviously its dated, but who knows. We stay in the lower half. One of the group got his deer and went to take it to payson to get processed and said tha the top half of the unit off the 260 was pretty thick with hunters. Deer, just like any game, is all hit or miss and just gotta find'em. Matty

where da heck were they when I had fall bird tags for last year! lol. I sat on a hill with my buddy during the late archery bull hunt in 22 (the mid November hunt). Trying to stay awake against a tree and be extra eyes, I noticed something small and black moving in. Whelp, sitting on the ground my first thought was... "im gonna get sprayed by a skunk". I could only see little bits of black over the down tree that was blocking my view. out come little turkey heads, sorta like "up periscope" . then they went over the log. I wound up taking pine cones to toss near them to get them to turn and change path. They came in about 20 feet from me though. It was pretty awesome thanks for sharing he video

Bloodtrail dog available for "rent'
mbiewer replied to WildHeritageTaxidermy's topic in The Campfire
how much to rent the dogs just to hang out at camp and give belly rubs to ha ha jk. My English pointer makes a great sleeping bag heater when its 20 degrees out -
Good luck! A coworker has the same tag as you. We got the 23 turkey and mule deer tags. Never hunted in there for Whitey, but lots of good ground. I hope to get out in a scout trip mid September to go see what we can see. I will try to keep you in mind when we get back to fill you in. (Doing a combined scout hunt, to use as an excuse to camp. ha ha)

Oh man, healthcare is as screwed up as politics. "getting better" is dictated by the insurance companies. My dad was in an accident years back. ICU/coma for 4 weeks... moved to a regular floor fro a week. 5 minutes from when the doctor walked in and talked to my mom and I about the how she wanted to keep him for observation, the registration person walked in and said the insurance was moving dad to a care home for rehab. At the week 5 mark, dad's trache tube was coming out. 5 long weeks in a horrible care home, dad finally got released. 2-3 hours after getting home, the phone rings. It was a medical equipment supplier saying they missed meeting us at the care home to give us home health supplies. Super, until they showed up. 2 big boxes of supplies... most of which were for the discontinued trache tube and a suction pump for cleaning his pump. #1, dad no longer had the tube. #2 none of us were respiratory techs that were qualified to run the pump to suction his non existent trache hole. (After all, even the nurses he had weren't allowed to do the task, just the resp techs). I tried to refuse it, but the guy said "oh no, you cant.... its paid for already by the insurance". (in the end my parents found a medical mission group to donate 75%of the goods to)

Seen this article last night off of facebook. After a 12yr marriage, in the divorce the guys soon to be ex-wife left behind her wedding dress. The pictures are hilarious of how he used it in his outdoor experiences. http://guide.sportsmansguide.com/5-reasons-why-every-outdoorsman-should-own-wedding-dress/?social=facebook-guideoutdoors

screw all that. come up to visit in the valley. I kayaked the salt river about 2x a month last summer starting from may-oct. Haven't been able to go yet this year (sadness is setting in for sure). Its 11 miles from the top of the water users area down to granite reef dam. Duration all depends on who you take with. ha ha First time we did it in just under 3 hours, but the other guy was married. Done portions of it with my brother and I kept "loosing" him. think that trip was 5 hours. ha ha Earlier is better unless you want the scenery with my brother.

We had the thanksgiving hunt for 23n last year, and came home empty handed. we worked it hard all week. I stopped and talked to a few guys in the field and one guy at the gas station. Everyone said the same thing for that unit. The bulls hunker against the rim from all the pressure and don't start to move until the temperatures drop. So unless we had a helicopter,... it wasn't looking good. My brother did have a cow walk out about 15 feet in front of where he sat on a hill, but as hard as he tried to make her grow antlers, it didn't work. This year we have to sit on our hands, but wouldn't you know it, the "odd man out" in our group that had to put in solo got drawn for the late-late bull hunt. 23n has the thanksgiving hunt, and then a second hunt right after for bull then the cow hunt. excited to see how it goes as I help him out on his hunt.

Holy smokes! Thanks for the heads up. I cant wait to see this movie. was pretty disappointed wasn't going to be able to see it. gonna have to order a late bday gift for myself. I posted in the campfire about the "Hunting film tour" (http://huntingfilmtour.com/). its along the similar lines. all short independent films about the hunters perspective and insight. Its not coming to phx either, unfortunately. I tried to ask the organizers about releasing to dvd and didn't get any definite answers. Had two different guys fire back responses about hosing a tour event in the venue of my choice... I just had to rent the theater and pay 500 bucks for the film reals. lol

6a was my 4th choice

Well, it hasn.t even been 24 hours since results are out and i'm already chomping at he bit. With last year's bull tag in 22 i dumped all my efforts into 22 for deer and turkey as well. All in all we found a feather for turkey, during season that is. On one of my trips up to scout/help on my buddy's late archery bull (also in 22) i had them walk into about 10 ft of the tree i was sitting against. Even had to defend myself with pinecones so they wouldnt bust and ruin Merle's bull stand. I got one of my coworkers hooked on going. He got blanked for hist first turkey hunt and deer last year. It's time for a little redemption in unit 23. lol. Never hunted turkey in there, but camping with the family and deer hunts, i've seen plenty. We always stick to below Young and see alot. My brother was out walking my dog on a camping trip in june and he popped loose two hens and some poults. Anybody have information about the top half of the unit? Anyways, where is everyone else going his year? Every trip is awesome, but anything to make this year stand out?

seen that on FB this morning from one of the other (phx) local radio stations. hillarious. is that the real posting?

yeah,, i have a flatline for 22n... and i was thinking of doing the same for the 23 unit. I guess the hing i wasnt sure about is there is a north and souh 23 map. Where some of the the other groups offering the high quality maps are all one unit. Just asking around before i pulled the trigger on a purchase

So last year i went out and bought a Flat line map for 22n for my hunts. I friggin love that map. It seems so easy to use and dang near indestructable. We were using sandard topo's before. I know my brother said you can go directly to blm and get them to print maps of a specific area for about the same price as a regular map, but you can center it on the area you desire. I was looking at the "hunt unit maps.com" site and their products. Anyone have any thoughts and comments about these? who uses what map and why do you like that brand. Also i seen HU has "unit packets" for 20 bucks that have information about the unit: This Downloadable file contains both the "Hunt Unit Information" and "GPS Unit Waterholes". This information is specific to the type of deer located within the Hunt Unit: ie: Mule Deer and/or Coues Whitetailed Deer. It also contains information such as: hunting locations and hunting strategies and tactics for archery, muzzleloader and general rifle hunts. Has anyone here ever purchased the packes? Was it worth it? I seen there were some other companies that had GMU maps for sale all about the same price. Need to get a new/better map for 23 and start getting out there. Just trying to decide which maps are beter. Thanks everyone

This is what we have, folds up smaller than a camp chair. The travel john is its own company, and runs for about 30 bucks on amazon. This is the second one ive had in the last 10 + yrs of camping/hunting.-I use a hole method , not really in the market for a bag of yuck to bring back from camping. the chair can usually fit nicely over a foot wide hole and then just "trench it" length wise (after i go the depth) to keep from digging a second hole (as long as it all fis in the cabela's privy shelter. My buddy made his own by trimming the back off of a folding metal chair (like the old school bingo hall ones) and cuting a hole in it (obviously). He then affixed a toilet seat to it (i'm assuming magic, or probably liguid nail) Either method is way better than trying o squat or anything like that

How can you tell you've been on CWT for toooo long? The disclaimer to prevent wise acres from asking or expecting the bed to go with the gun. ha ha ha. ---- Other than that, that's a swee set up. got me thinking about maybe getting a 3rd remington. good luck with the sale

23 for me and the fellas, both mules and turkey
-
according to the AZGF access mapper thing they got, when i zoom in its 26m. but it does appear to be "no mans"...err "no unit" land. 20b curves up around lake pleasant and isnt actually in the unit. Looks like the swath of land goes from the border of 20b to uo across the 17 to the new river area

23 turkey, and 23 mule deer.

One of my coworkers goes to a "primitive skills" camp every february in maricopa (?). He said Cody is a frequent guest/instructor out there at the week event. (I know you meant the other guy, but just thought id chime in)
