    2004-2008 F150 camper shell

Listing for my buddy who doesn't have a profile on here.... He's selling his ARE camper shell for his ford F150. I think he's mainly doing it because the last few trips, I've made him haul most of my gear up for me... ha ha ha. now he can say he doesn't have the cargo space. Anyways, Steve's number is 480-658-4477

    Lost elk tag

Well...... son-of-a-mother-in-law-no-good-good-for-nothing.... and I forget how the rest goes, but wish I would have known this two months back.... my story (not me "a friend" ) needed his information during turkey. To set the scene, we were in the middle of 23 south. set up camp Thursday, one last evening drive before the season. seen good sign... Friday morning it was Game on. Tim and I went in one jeep.... my brother and steve (and his 11 yr old) wen another direction. No cell service and usually don't care. brushed out some deer on the opener, and met up with Tim. Our plan is get up and go before the sun. come back for brunch about 11, then be back at dark. We were waiting on other people to just come out for the camping part, so I found service and turned the phone on. One text was from Steve. "going to town to get a tag". Umm What? Apparently Ben and Steve seen turkey walking out the other side of the spot when they pulled up. Then couldn't get on them... then they got to talking. Steve said "Sure hope matt has my tag". Ben said...."no its mailed to your house, why would he"? ha ha They hen drove to young, where steve could get service and called G&f to confirm he was drawn. yep, (part of the 4 pack, he got drawn) but they said "looks like your tag was returned". Steve and ben said they could either take steve back to camp, and he could drive on his own...or cut out the extra driving and go from young. Well, ten miles pulling outside of payson their conversation goes like this: Ben: Pine doesn't have much in it Steve: yeah it's really small. Ben Pine, or Pinetop? Steve: Yeah... Ben: its two different places.... Steve: oh... Pinetop. All in all it was like 7 hours of driving in an open jeep and something like 250 miles as they drove from south of young, Young, halfway to Pine, then back tracked and went to Pinetop
  3. do you offer a package deal? Room, leftover lasagna, and hints to the three bulls you seen? ha ha Had the thanksgiving hunt last year. It was decent weather until weds. then I go cold. Took us three hours Friday (the day after he hunt) to thaw everything out to put it away. My buddy has a tag for the dec 5th hunt this year. No sure what we plan yet. Stellar offer.

    2014 elk season

yeah.... does your wife wanna give lessons, or start a support group.... been arguing for a couple days now with my girlfriend... "so you'll be gone for a week, and it's not even your tag?!!?".... guess it was a bad time to tell her that javelin and spring turkey will be weekend trips.... apparently there's no Brightside. ha ha (* there were five us come elk time, so my buddy got the short straw and put in solo. He, of course, was the lucky one to draw the 22n late, late bull tag. Can't send him up the hill alone!)
  5. one of my friends here at work has a brother who is a police officer in the city next to ferguson.... the lawlessness that took place is just ridiculous. For example: The Quick trip that was displayed on the news after being looted and burned to the ground,.... wasn't in ferguson. go figure. It was across the street in the next town. (think mesa tempe type of land line). Protestors would abruptly stop in traffic on the interstate. when they started towing cars from the interstate, they began to lay down in the roadway I heard of one article that said people were bussing in to join the demonstrations City council/mayor instructed police to not to intervene in the riots unless it was a matter of life safety (basically, let them run amuck as long as no one gets killed) and like in the past, it was free stuff all around, the mob going after justice from "whitey" were looting and stealing from other African American store owners. Not to mention the pay for a Ferguson police officer is $32k/year....

    nature taking it's course

seen this in my email this morning... pretty neat to watch. The demise of a buck through a time lapsed trail cam of a very nice buck and "the circle of life". http://www.outdoorhub.com/news/2014/11/10/video-trail-cam-captures-deer-decomposition/?utm_source=SilverpopMailing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=November%2010%202014%20Daily%20Newswire%20(1)&utm_content=&spMailingID=47377203&spUserID=NDQxNTMxMzU0MzYS1&spJobID=561285889&spReportId=NTYxMjg1ODg5S0

    No Luck

I was in 23 as well. We made a few mistakes as to general areas.... but all in all I was an amazing trip. Found a coyote skull, still intact. A bear skull. (only had one canine tooth left though), Had one guy's son trick or treat the three of us in camp (repeatedly, was okay for the first few rounds...eventually his dad just dumped his bag into Christian's so . the game could be over). Found some remnants of buildings that were in plain sight that we've been missing for years. a few whitetail doe, an amazing charcoal grey mule deer doe,.... but the most frustrating thing of the hunt of all ..... fidning 12 turkey that were right in easy access, along the roadside tha we couldn't find a race of when we were there for turkey at the start of the month

So this is how it ends....

I ended my hunt in 24b a few years back getting o listen to two different bands of coyotes serenading each other from either side of me. it was pretty amazing as the sun went down

    Payson Meat Processor

Just trying to be optimistic.... got the muley hunt in 23 next weekend for the 3 of us. Does anyone know if Browning Custom Meats in Payson is still in business? Everything on the internet for Jeremy's postings are about circa 2010. I found a broken link to his FB page, and tried to contact him here through the PM system... but his inbox was full. My buddy used him in the past when he was just setting up shop and spoke highly of him. he used to be a site sponsor. Seems like a closer option than coming back down to go to Millers ... Especially with another 22n late bull hunt in December for another friend.

    Beanie Question

sportsman's has Turtle Fur brand products. They make a hat similar to an under armor material. I just replaced mine with this, after loosing a different brand on my elk hunt last year. This one has a thicker "cuff" or rim, but not bad for a skull cap. here's the turtle fur link: http://www.turtlefur.com/b/5553083011?field_subjectbin=&field_generic_text_3-bin=&field_fabric_type=&field_style_name=&field_price=&field_color_map=&field_generic_text_2-bin=&searchRank=price-desc-rank&searchSize=12&searchPage=2&searchBinNameList=subjectbin%2Cgeneric_text_3-bin%2Cfabric_type%2Cstyle_name%2Cprice%2Ccolor_map%2Cgeneric_text_2-bin

thinking its "funny" to kill a deer

I know of one individual who loves to hunt,...but then would donate all of the meat if he got something. Thrill of the chase maybe? I feel it is unsportsman of anyone not to respect the animal that they just harvested, dove to buffalo. I guess it really comes down to "why" we hunt. I mean obviously 42.50 (or whatever a turkey tag costs nowadays) would go further on a grocery bill than a chance at finding an animal. Not to mention the inherit costs of fuel, clothing, food for camp, and time spent. I see it as this. Nature is a symphony. With each individual sensory item an instrument. The way a pine cone sounds falling from a tree, what a blue jay sounds like, what fresh sap from a rub sounds like, how a pine tree smells from any other plant. Then add in the sensory items from an animal. what does a turkey cluck sound like, what does a crow cackle... to what does a squirrel bark sound like on alert. The sound of an elk walking through the trees. the smell of a javelina. What it sounds like to step on dry leaves, vs pine needles take all these things to make that harmony of natures.... ... and then take one jack wagon standing in the middle of it clapping to a rhythm only they know. This is that hunter. It is the hunters "piece" in the performance... to not only make that clapping be part of the same symphony... but to blend in so well that it would be missed without it. At least that's my philosophy of why I hunt. It's not just being out in nature, and experiencing it... it is being part of it on a higher more interrelated connection. ------------- Or you can be like the morons that I came across in 23 two weeks ago (well not them, never seen them, but I did see their remnants....) found the prized bull they got. I know they tagged out... because they took the back straps and head... left the rest to rot. Pretty much ruined my own trip that moment on. Wasn't a difficult recovery with it being about 10 yards from the forest road on the high hills without any trees around. Some people are just idiots

    radios

I told my brother the same thing for my Christmas list this year. A set of radios better than the Motorola talk abouts that don't reach out very far. Shooter what brand do you have?

    breast or full bird?

So, I've been turkey hunting a number of times without any success. Maybe it's renewed optimism....or maybe the hope of being in unit 23 (seen lots of turkey in here, on random trips).... or maybe because its Monday morning on a 3day/hunt week and my boss isn't in on a Monday Anyways, I was doing some research on cleaning methods the past couple of weeks. Seems like most of he videos out there are on how to breast out the bird, and leave the rest. The leading argument on this method is "there's not that much here, so screw it". Well I can't say that I agree with that statement at all. There's not that much to a dove or squirrel either.... but the labor still yields delicious game...even if its jus a bite or two, What are most of the methods here? any tips or tricks that want to be passed around for the group? I can't wait for Thursday to get here o set up camp for Friday morning. just trying to fill the time

    Bighorn wish

After attending the mesa extension offices presentation on big horn sheep it goes something like this: Domesticated sheep have biologically adapted over the years. Dom sheep have a membrane in their nasal cavity that Big horns do not. Likewise, dom sheep also carry a parasite with them. While the fly larva cannot breach the nasal membrane of a domestic sheep, the big horn are susceptible to the same larvae. If a domestic herd comes into close proximity to a big horn sheep herd, it is pretty much a death sentence. Game and fish try to route and control the limits to where the sheep herders can migrate their flocks. But a the same time, they cannot control where the big horns "can or can't be". The presentation had hands on displays of a big horn skull where the larva worked its way up the nasal cavity and set up camp in the sinus and into the brain of the big horn. Also got to see the devastation one of the bugs did to a horn (basically hollowed it out from the inside). Pretty gnarly. ---- The presentation is in conjunction with the dolly steam boat on canyon lake. It's a Friday night class for "outdoor enthusiasts" of all types, followed by a saturday morning float on canyon looking for sheep. Usually happens mid-end of june before the monsoons hit. Worthy of a date night. lol Matty

    Bushnell tanks

I agree, but give us hunters the gate access. ha ha. That would be a sweet spot if they could incorporate the same tonto limited access rules like Bull dog canyon has (behind mesa...). For those that don't know, the bull dog area is ,limited access. If you go to the tonto office in downtown mesa, they will take your vehicle description and information... then give you 6 months of gate combination lock codes. (it changes once a month). It doesn't keep everyone out, just the hooligans. (Bull dog is the area East of Ellsworth, to the river, to McDowell, to Meridian?) Matty
