So.... turn 40 in july, but these ideas are all from my lady... so technically it's not my mid life crisis, but rather my mid- wife crisis. (sorry about the long winded story) I skrimped and saved and back in the day I bought a used pop up from my buddy. A classic 1979 coleman. Now it needs a few things here and there, not much but all we ever really do is have a soft place to sleep and a clean place to get dressed. Still cook outside and except for one javelin trip, the camper has never been a refuge during trips. Then I met a girl. She's keeping ,me around, been 4 years. We bought a house together, and I just got a check from selling mine... which has opened up a can of worms. She isn't a fan of my old vintage camper, takes a bit to set up and its hard to pack (without setting up, and unpack). I toyed with the idea of buying a New-to-me pop-up. Been keeping an eye out, missed a few deals because we were waiting to sell my house but oh well. The understanding was, sell my house, get a new camper. Turkey season came, one more set up of the ol coleman. She said, "what about a hard side". Well, trying to stay mobile with the smaller the better, and the fact that I have a half ton (or in most circumstances, my brother pulls it with his jeep), I want a small camper. Independent thinker.... she started showing me pictures of campers she found. So I fired back pictures of ones I thought would be a compromise. Finally she said "there's a rv show at UoPS, mom n dad are wanting to go, we can go too just to get ideas; then well look for something similar used." (Her dad is getting ready to retire, they want an apartment on wheels for traveling to see family and a bucket list). I thought the show didn't have anything all that interesting. She told me I was wrong, she found a camper that she liked 30' bunk house blah blah blah... well fully loaded, its hitting the limits of what my truck can pull. the next day I showed her pictures of ultra lights that I liked, and again, thought it was a compromise. Wrong again...I started the debate with "my truck cant handle that, my truck can pull these 3 trailers just fine.".... wrong.... she fired back, "you need a new truck then"., whipped out her phone to show me prices and had budgets and spread sheets.... (yeah, don't try to argue numbers with an accountant). I added the clause of... well depending on which "camper" you want us to get, im fixing up the pop up so I can actually go hunting still. SO finally the guy part of this... I want another dodge, first off. -What do I get? -Gas or diesel? (a diesel will be better for pulling, but in general use stand point) -years to stay away from? (I know they had a transmission issue for while) - Power wagon? (5.7 or 6.4?) -Mpg? So the background is, I really like the power wagon, but that might be because its awesome. Our budget is around $30k. a 3/4 ton will give us the capacities to pull the camper, but the cost of general upkeep on a diesel first of the practicality of towing a trailer a few times a year ? We probably found 12 trucks that are worth looking at off cyber scouting.

Well thanks for all the input. I dont usually concern myself with resale value of anything I own, I usually drive my vehicles until I have to pay someone to haul it off I currently have a 1500 with a 5.7 HEMI. I like the truck, but if I upsize the trailer, Im in a pickle. I wasnt planning on upgrading the truck really (havent quite perfected the pinstripes on this one yet) I found 2 power wagons I like. One is $30k/w 50k and the second is $21/ with 88 on it. But the bigger question (since popular vote is diesel)... Both diesels are right around $34k A.)2006 megacab with 50k and 5.9 (electric gizmos, leather, moon roof) and 3.73 axles B.)2014 crew cab, 75k 6.7L but has 3.42 axles, Which one is a better deal. Im leaning towards the 2014 but those axle ratios arent very appealing. Any educational information on that stuff?

Was going to ask if you and Peg were going to have snacks at the open house? this is how my mind works. Open house = snacks. You and Peg = wild game. so by deduction.... your open house = should be some delicious treats. Like smoked trout? Bacon wrapped quail? Oh man,... where do I start. People are all a bunch of snowflakes-me first- im more important than you. We were back by bear canyon lake. One guy from our group got up there pretty early on Friday, too early for the group that was going to camp close to us. Jeff was actually half way set up when the "travel trailer park" showed up and asked him to move, because they were wanting to camp there, especially with their big trailers coming in. Maybe that's why one fo their group ran their generator all night long, and they kept their radio going till way late (Or maybe they were just trying to share???) We opted for woods canyon lake fishing on sunday. FR300 has a speed limit of 25. I knew I was pushing it at 30 for the amount of traffic out there... but still not fast enough for the guy that decided to go around the 3 vehicles that I was in. packed up and ready to go home, traveling back down 300 and getting close to where the pavement meets. Granted I was the leader in the parade. (# vehicles for us, and about 6 more vehicles all heading out) a guy in a side by side passed the entire string of us all in one shot , like we were standing still.

Yep.... We were'nt so lucky... although luckier than most. Took the lady up to Flagstaff for the weekend. Convinced her of the short "hop" from flag to powell. GTook her kayaking up antelope canyon. Nice leisure drive home on sunday. (we avoided the construction on i-17 by going through payson). Just outside of rye, hit the back up. Turned around, took a dirt road to Jake's corner and then home. 5.5 hours to get home

Kaibab started it, last week. Tonto should be next.... even the wildlife is Moving out a bear was spotted in red mountain ranch in mesa (Power and Mcdowell) about 4 hours ago {sorry cant get the video to post}

I agree, shut it down.... but.... they need to be more specific or defined in the areas... before the holiday weekend. Its written pretty vaguely for the masses ... just make it simple and close the whole thing. done

AtoZ (if there's one close to you) is cheaper than depot. Most of the mom n pop shops that rent tools are always cheaper than depot

I wound up buying a Remington from them when they first came to town. A few kayaks, and accessories. I hit the "hunting section" as bleak as it may be, as a way to kill time when going in for other stuff for the kids.

My advice is to all the single dudes out there... (yeah, we all got moms....) Do your research. Plan. and check the calendar. Met my lady (been 4 years now),... didn't do the math. Her birthday is Saturday and mothers day is sunday. Not that they're my kids,..but in the role of "Fake Dad", I still have to adhere to the mothers day rule (She says I don't have to, but im not falling for that trap). I thought... her birthday is in May, spring bird is a couple of weeks before that...im safe. My lady was nice to me this year. She sent me a link list to about a dozen amazon items, and I just had to pick a few from me for her birthday and from "us" for mothers day. Cant really help the OP'er. Emily's item were home decor, jewelry hangers and a phone case

nothing for us in 23. We worked a single tom, a couple of days. then finally had some good back and forth with one bird Monday morning. The tom answered, and was really going after our calls, well except for the "going" part. HE never came out or over to where we were at. The brush was too thick and dry to try to get closer to him. It was also very "switchy"... after a certain time each morning, everything would just stop. In the deeper valleys, it was just after 7. on the open hills it was about 530.... pray for rain for next year. Most of the tanks we seen were dry.

The Tonto restrictions start tomorrow, but the Prescott ones start Friday. Just passing the info along for all the gobbler getters out there, and families looking to escape into the forest. I know that will change up how many extras were going to come up to "help" on our turkey hunt. I have one I use in my pop up and my other buddy bought the fittings to use his where his stove would be in his pop up. I think in general, the canvas of both the pop up and the framed tents breathes enough. We usually only use ours for about 30 minutes before bed (to take the chill off) and then one of us gets up about an hour before we get up to turn it on for the morning. There was an elk trip that temps were below freezing and we ran it all night. for around 25 bucks, you can get a battery Co2/oxygen monitor to keep in the tent (I got mine from depot). --- I also splurged, and got the adapter fittings, and hoses to run it off the bigger tanks. I leave the tank outside the camper and run the hose into the camper. Nothing like being sad and disappointed when you here the pop and flash from the burn out 10 minutes after lighting it at 4 in the morning from a 1 pound can.

im fine with closing the forest, but can it be AFTER my turkey tag. I will even forego any source of heat. I can drink beer huddled around the led at night just fine. Already willing to give up the fire pit, for the propane fire ring. But let me try to chase my gobbler and then put the lock across it

Well, time to get technical.... So a sit in, you're actually closer to the water with a lower center of gravity. The sit on tops, are thicker (its gotta be able to float, so its more like a hard pool toy inflatable kinda deal). I had a coleman canoe for about 20 years, and then had kayaks about the last 5 of that. I got the chance to go out in perception swifty's (they run about 250 new) that a girlfriend had. they were great,...well she wasn't. after she left, she decided she was taking her kayaks with her. I wanted the sitins, to be more like kayaking and less like canoeing. the first thought when it comes to kayaking is "how do you get it upright after you roll it". Well you don't roll it, for one. Number two,.. wether you have a sit in or on, there's pretty much no getting back into either in open water. We tried it in the pool. have to be able to crawl out of the water on something that's not stationary (otherwise you wouldn't have tipped in the first place). Sure, crud happens. In my 20 years of the canoe, I dumped it twice. (friends kid caught her shoe at blue ridge when getting out, and right in I went; the other was in experience trying it out on the salt). as the purchaser of a kayak you need to figure out what the purpose of it is. keel lines on the bottom will make traveling straight or quicker through the water. If you equate it to quads... I have a trophy 126. (well, technically 4 of em).theyre fishing kayaks. I used them on the salt river, on the lake with kids in my lap, and for fishing. theyre flat bottomed and wide, like the old Honda ranchers. and then theyres kayaks like the swiftys that are more like the sport model of a quad. designed for straighter travel , keel line for cutting water easier etc. then there are the "banshee" style kayaks, that are used for class 5 rapids, that are designed to be able to fit the question "how do you roll back over when sitting in it" If you ever come up topt the valley you can try mine. I can haul all four of mine in a shortbed pickup (I just dangle them out the back) or 2 on top of the wife's Cherokee just fine. A cheap utility rack and I can take everything I need for the lake (for the group) in my truck. 4 kayaks, a folding picnic table, ice chest, and tailgate grill. sorry for hijacking the thread, hope it helps
