seeking help on AZ-22N late hunt for bull elk
Santana Outdoors replied to desertyankee's topic in Elk Hunting
I've hunted the unit for most of my almost 30 years living here, the sad part is 5 years ago I could have told you where a decent bull is but I hunted the unit 2 years ago with my son and came home empty, we passed on a good 6X6 opening morning and should have taken him. Good luck and plan on working hard, lots of scouting and hiking many miles and Oh did I say luck!!!!! It is a tough hunt anymore but rewards are for those willing to hunt hard for them. -
Nice mount, who is Chris Favour?

To answer your question no! Most rifle hunts today, you glass up a buck a mile away, sneak up to the next closest ridge and shoot, well maybe not that easy. Great thread you started. Orange doesn't do you any good with a color blind person like me, I couldn't see if you were standing 100 yards from me, Last year I was trying to bring a youth hunter in on a bull and a friend was out there 1000 yards out there and I couldn't find him, it was cloudy. So he held up his BIG orange vest, I still couldn't find him, so another youth with me (not color blind) looked through my binos and picked him up immediately, he said I was looking right at him. But I am a small part of the population. Just be thankful I do not glass with my scope! Luck is a big part of being a new hunter and a seasoned one. We sell hundreds of packs every month and get asked this question everyday. First thing I tell them is Camo doesn't work on game if you are moving, period. It doesn't matter how great it blends. But lets face it, everything you can do in the previous threads along with CAMO will help. I use a camo that breaths, "vented", because it is hot out there. Max-1 is a great southwest camo if you are in the open. A darker camo works probably the best because when you need it in close range you are normally using a tree to hide you. Along with all the other good info here, when you do stop to glass, get in the shade, do not let the sun hit you. Eye glasses, scopes glass and other shiny items will give you up, including your face. Plus your whole body will be highlighted if you are in the sun. I to have killed animals with a bow in levis and a white tee shirt, not the best or smartest but it was all I had at the time. Hope this helps and Good luck, Eric

We are looking at adding Kenetrek boots to our store. We have heard they are about the best hunting boot on the market. Please give me your feedback on these boots. How well did they perform in the field and which one did you buy. Also, we would like to know if you are interested in a pair as we prepare for our first order. Thanks, Eric

My 1st Bear! Woohoo!

Very Nice bear, Thanks for sharing -
Here is a prime example of getting excited on your first bull hunt. His arrow went over the bull missing a beautiful bull. My son told me the bull ducked when he shot, I saw the bull drop a little with my eye in the field, but what amazed me was when I slowed it down, how far the bull actually did drop. He still would have missed the shot even if the bull did't drop. After checking the distance again. He had the right pin on him, just Big Bull jitters. What do you think this bull would have scored? Wow what a story, sorry to hear that about the women. Glad you got a buck, Congratulations. My brother was hunting by Tucson one year when some anti hunters came up through a valley trying to chase off the deer when they ran a deer right by my brothers hunting partner and he shot it with his bow. When the anti hunters came by he thanked them for chasing the deer to him!!!!!

We were 50 yards, I am amazed at how low he dropped. We do have silencers but we are going to add more. Thanks, ERic -
We wanted to let everyone here at CW know we have added Kenetrek boots to our store. After using them myself I have found them to be the best Hunting boot in the world as advertised. At first I thought they were way too stiff, but after walking in them, the sole has a built in roll to the front that compensates for the better built boot that makes it almost feel like the boot is helping you walkand not needing the boot to actually bend like most boots. Plus, I thought the Talon sole was nothing special until I tried it on a hill in my son's elk hunt, in years before I was on my butt at least once during the hike up and down before and not once with the Kenetrek boots, All I can say is I am sold. No they are not cheap but if you are looking for the best, then here it is. http://www.paysonoutfitters.com/servlet/th...oots/Categories Eric
