My turn
wardsoutfitters replied to thunderbolt's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Thunderbolt and I figured out that our cameras were near each others I had a camera stolen yeaterday. the strange thing is they took mine but left thunderbolts! we talked about it and I think it was because mine didn't have a memory card so to see what was on the camera they had to take it and with thunderbolts they only took the memory card " thats all they needed " . Well another item stolen a blind and a camera all in short time. If I catch this sob there's going to be ,major issues !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

Man I dont know where to start> I will say that I have tested just about every broadhead on the market, some perform well and others are just junk. 1) Deflection the only mechanical heads that will deflect on hard angled shots are the ones with out the blades sharpened to the tip of the blades such as rocket and nap heads. 2) energy to open vortex heads = If you were to remove the o-ring that holds the blades closed in flight you would find if you point the tip of the head up the blades will open if you point it down they will close. most people think that the blades push the o-ring back and they think this takes energy to do this, well the fact is that the o-ring actually slides back the shaft the blades really have nothing to do with the o-ring comeing off the head itself. This Is the case with most mechanical heads that use o-rings to keep the blades closed. 3) Mechanicals with the right set up can kill anything, faster and more efectively then any fixed head. animals shot with bows die from hemoriging "aGAIN CANT sPELL" the biger the hole you put in them the faster they die and thats the fact, here are a few pictures of animals I have shot with mechanical heads. -

Here is a buck we took pictures of in January he was approximately 300 yards from one of our stand sites. We had some trail cam pictures of him but they got erased Some how " who Knows " I was sick when I went to check them out again on the memory card and they weren't there. just a few days later while checking sites we got some sweet pictures of "cedro" this is what we named him. all my cliants were in other stand locations. Well cedro made it thru the winter and Is alive and well, we got a handle on him today with teo other nice bucks. Maybe well get him in a few weeks and If not maby in January. -

Here are the sheds we found that are alot like cedros, but the non typical side is on the left instead of the right, The other buck is a lion kill, I have pictures and vvideo of this buck in velvet, and I found him dead while guiding in december, what a shame his gross score is 116" on his right side he has two non typ pionts one between his G-2and 3 and the other you can see. -

you know If I shoot a animal I want a 1" hole entering and a 2 1/2" hole exiting you want to talk about blood, witha vortex head you get a 1" entry hole no matter what. to be honest with you your wife would be fine shooting a fixed head she dosen't have enough speed to have flight issues if her bow is tuned. -

1) I dont know how to do the quote thing, but in response , Why would you want to pust 2"'s of blade thru the sholder blade or a rib when you could push 7/8" or even 1" thru it much easier all i'm sayig is yes if you do make a poor shot and hit hard bone you dont want to push 2"s of blade trhu it you obviously would get less penetration. i think you miss understood me. you want the broadhead to completly deploy after the head enters the animal not on the outside !!!! 2) if you hit bone and try to push the head thru it with a 2" cut then ya you most likely wont get a pass thru and you wont get near as much penetration either 3) another thing you cant compare penetration on a fome target . shaft pinch plays into that to much!!! -

I will tell you from experience that she will be fine for coues deer sized game out to 40 yards. I know this because My wife has harvested numerious animals with vortex heads with a 42# hoyt saphire with a 35/55 gold tip. she was shooting the vortex mini-max 75 gr 2" cut. ( I would also use an exapandable that opens before entry like a RAGE or a Snyper or MAYBE the new piston point.... ) I WOULD NOT RECOMEND USEING ANY OF THE HEADS MENTIONED ABOVE , DUE TO THE FACT THAT YOU DO NOT WANT THE BROADHEAD TO COMPLETELY DEPLOY UNTILL IT IS PAST ALL THE HARD BONE. THE THOUGHT PROCESS BEHIND THOSE HEADS IS WAY OFF COURSE. Iwill say that the vortex heads are far superior to any head I have used I have harvested over 100 big game animals with vortex heads without failure. I must tell you that My fauther owns vortex heads. but if you need proof I will send pictures of animals my wife has harvested with vortex heads, if you are infact going to shoot expandable heads make surt the blades cut their wey into the animal and they dont punch their way in, meaning the blades are sharpened completly to the tips of the blades. If you have anymore questions feel free to give me a call I will try to answer any questions you have concerning vortex heads. on my web site you can look at a picture of a bear my wife shot with the same set up i talked about above. Spending time in a tree stand ?
wardsoutfitters replied to Big Browns's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I do hunt in the southern half of the state but at higher elevations so we have plenty of trees. I video most of the hunters that I guide and It makes it alot easier to film when your on the ground, in a blind and confurtable "sorry cant spell" to be honest with you the love for double bull blinds comes from being able to move around while in the blind, being able to fall a sleep and not die when you hit the ground. I started useing them when I had younger and older cliants. the old timers couldn't climb and the youngsters I didn't feel i could leave them in a tree. I have also found them more efective in scent control and that is 90% of the battle, when it rains and snows you stay dry, if your cold you light the heater and then your warm. if you get to hot you turn on the fan and your cool. As for where I'm located I live in Willcox, az. Here is a few pictures of bucks from January,2007 if you would like to see more Pictures and videos Check Out our web site at www.wardsoutfitters.com Steven -

Thanks all!!! Ya I have auctioned hunts on e-bay and I had a picture of Cedro on there. as for the show with the parkers, they were a blast to hunt with, their dads a great guy also he hunted Goulds in mexico with us last year. Also another thing. I have some sheds for a buck that we found about 5 or 6 years ago and they are alot like cedros, we found them about two miles from where we got the pictures of cedro. so I guess the geans are there and I hope to see more bucks like this one. I'll try to post some shed pictures. -
Spending time in a tree stand ?
wardsoutfitters replied to Big Browns's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
here's the deal Tree stands are good but double bull blinds are better. In january I had 13 cliants harvest coues deer out of double bull blinds. the key is to make them scent free go buy one and take it out somewhere near the spot you are going to be hunting , pop it up and let it sit a week, then go and place it near the area the buck it comeing to try to put it down wind at least 20 yards. when you decide you are going to hunt it where scent free clothing and spray your self down with scent away. then when you get in the blind spraw the whole inside with scent away. now the last think get some natural scunk scent and place no more then two drops out side the blind, then its a waiting game. make sure yiou have the blind up at least a week before you hunt to give the deer a chance to get used to it. In most cases if you brsh it in good they wont even pay atention to it. the advantage to these blinds is they hold in most of your scent. try it and you'll never climb a tree again!!!!!!!
