I've seen illegals carrying full backpacks and AK's, they must have been hunting too.. Good luck, the violence in Mexico is at an all time high in case you haven't heard, and someone is going to get killed by all the drug traffic spilling over into AZ. "Carry a sidearm" on your deer hunt? Wow, sounds like a good time..Too many good units 40 miles from the border to take a chance in 2010. My first buck was in 36b off ruby road in 1995, but I wouldn't go back now... Kill one with your bow and leave 36 for the thrill seekers.

couple nice bucks from trail cam
Mittens2010 replied to jefftrucker12's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
It is a nice buck, and fortunately for everyone in AZ, unless they include the coordinates, or a really broad shot with the mountains or a real noticable landmark, it might be a bit difficult to find it... Shoot the thing and post a picture so we can end the madness... -
Two biggest bucks were both archery 110" in January 2010 and 95" in September 2000. 110" had broken off 3 inches off the main beam, almost passed him Best memory might be the 30" buck I shot in November 2009 at 300 yards in a windstorm after some guys "finished off" my 170" mulie that I "lost" earlier in the year... Never said I was a trophy hunter!!! Nice bucks everyone..

Does that mean you can shoot two???
-
1. Buy a rangefinder if you can afford one. 2. Don't take marginal shots if you can. 3. Figure out your maximum range and try not to shoot outside of it. 4. Enjoy the quiet, it is the best thing about bowhunting. 5. Don't hold out for a "trophy" deer on your first try, any deer with a bow is a trophy and a lifetime memory!! Good luck!!

Find a water hole and bring a book. 34B is a tough unit, I shot a 95" in 2000 coming from a water hole (that was before I actually ever sat at one) across from the fish canyon turn off is a decent spot, but gets a decent amount of traffic. Thank you for your service!!

Ward's Outfitters 135" coues story
Mittens2010 replied to wardsoutfitters's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Finding and shooting are two different things, and no, I wasn't referring to a 65" deer, I was speaking of a hunter, that is willing to spend the money to go to someone else's ranch and pay 3k or 4k can shoot a 90 incher with no skill or effort at all... For Example, A friend draws a Bow tag for Elk after 15 years, hunts 12 days and shoots a 315" elk. Another guy spends 35k and goes to the White Mountain Indian Reservation and shoots a 400 inch Elk, after passing on 25 bulls bigger than 315", which one is the bigger trophy? No fences, just a $35k price tag. That was my point. Arizona doesn't have "high fence" ranches, but to imply that we do not have the basically the same thing with the giant private ranches reserved for those with the fat check book is just skirting the reality of what AZ hunting is becoming... -
Ward's Outfitters 135" coues story
Mittens2010 replied to wardsoutfitters's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I didn't say high fenced, I said fenced. Most outfitters have access to private or Fenced in land, and can set up water holes, food plots, mineral licks etc, and let deer go undisturbed to said areas for years without having to worry about someone scouting him up or wandering into the spot and taking their deer. I know money talks, and if I had the money maybe I would do that myself. I know up in unit 10 they are fighting like crazy to keep the gates open, but if a bunch of US outfitters clients buy up an area that keeps the gates locked for 98% of the hunters in the unit out, then shoot a world record Elk 5 years later are they heros??? I guess the underdog in me wishes someone scouting for himself shooting a 10 year old bow gets the world record, not Chuck Adams or someone who pays for it, but that is just me. I know several hunters that have hunted with the Wards and without fail they said they were awesome hunts and great people, so by no means was I being critical of them, just what the hunting world is turning into. Want a P&Y Coues deer? Go to private land or Mexico & pay your money. Every Coues deer with a bow is a trophy, and congrats to everyone who is fortunate enough to take one or more. Maybe I'm just bitter because my tag is filled for 2010, and I am jealous that I can't be out there chasing them around like the other hacks I hunt with... That's probably it... -
Ward's Outfitters 135" coues story
Mittens2010 replied to wardsoutfitters's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I know a guy in Mexico where you can go and shoot a world record whitetail with your bow if you have the cash.. My 111" means more to me than a fenced in deer, maybe because I cannot afford to go on some of the "private" hunting land like Mr. Ward has.. Whatever floats your boat, but the bottom line is a private land deer should not be in the same book as one that gets shot on public land. I have nothing against private ranch hunts, I have done that myself in other states, but non of those harvests are as meaniful to me as the ones that I outsmarted a public land deer, and outsmarted all of the other public land hunters... Good luck to all of you that have a tag in August, my 2010 tag is filled!! -
be careful, and don't forget the recepticle for your tinkles. Don't drink too much coffee driving to your area, you'll pay for it later. Most important, make sure to strap yourself to the tree, it is easy to nod off and fall. Good luck

Happy August! I shot my biggest Coues deer ever with my bow in January, (See avatar pic) so I don't get to hunt for a few months, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a 140" or better Coues deer that they can keep a secret for 4 months, then let me shoot it?? I don't have any money, but would be happy to give you a backstrap!!! Just kidding guys, good luck in August, remember any Coues deer with a bow is a trophy, and the spike I shot with my bow the last day of season on December 31st 2008 still ranks as one of my cherished trophies, and by far was the best eating deer ever!! I hope all you bowhunters with a tag in August continue to push the record book, seems like more and more big deer are shot every year...

DONT PUT ALL YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET!!!
Mittens2010 replied to arizonaelitefreak's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Waterhole, baiting, food plots, spot and stalk it's all good.. Finding a spot where someone doesn't steal your wounded deer, priceless... Happened to me with a mulie in December 09, will never hunt around other bowhunters again, find yourself somewhere to hunt that no one else knows about, and keep it quiet!! -
If you are in a spot where your blind won't get stolen, as far ahead of time as possible.
-
Take that cat to Wellers and have it done right.

Compare websites and photo galleries and it will be a no brainer for you. I would never use anyone other than Weller's, compare for yourself..
