imagine a wolf hunt like they do up north!! that would be something else. Game and fish could make a lot of money if they start to put tags out for them
-
doesn't surprise me wolves will travel where prey will travel. They are very smart predators and i wish i can see one!!

Well it has been awhile but finally got couple pictures to put up from the hunt. I didn't want to bring my expensive camera out into the field cause of the gear I was haulin and treacherous terrain. But took pictures from camp and on the way out. My buddy took couple out in field that he put on another sight and will try to get permission to post link. Meanwhile I hope you enjoy the story and hopefully I can add more later after I get back from archery season. Friday looked like a great day. Cold mourning in upper 30's with heavy overcast, our hopes were since that the moon wasn't out all night, cold , and delayed sunrise due to overcast = lots of deer movement. We did see 5 deer 1 small possible buck but disappeared into thick brush right away. We turned torwards the east and saw one deer by itself at mile away and it was a big buck. The biggest I’ve ever seen. It took 2 hours to get around to the spot we saw him last. In that time we saw 2 more doe's and jumped a smaller buck in the canyon that neither of us could get a shot off. Literally within 2-3 minutes we jumped another deer that turned out to be the big buck!! My buddy already sat on the ground and getting ready for the shot. Meanwhile I have my binos and waiting for it to pop out of the brush below. waiting. .waiting . .then it pops out and I put my binos up. I start to shake and say it's a b..b.buck . . .it's a huge %$#@ing buck. I get down and throw my gun up . get my scope on him. and hear boom!! just as he was going into the thick brush and disappear forever. WE get over there and there is no blood keep tracking and soon the buck starts walking and still no blood after 100 yards. disappointed we went to the next canyon and saw 2 more doe's. and the following canyon had 5 more deer with 1 possibly being a small buck. It was getting dark fast so we made a b line for our trail cam and picked it up before going to camp. (trail cam pics are also on another site with my buddies field pics). Saturday was a bad day. Warm mourning didn't get lower than mid 40's with cloud cover that broke up very quickly. Was very windy also. We saw 3 bucks right away and tried to bust over to them asap. while we're working our way over we jump two different bucks that disappeared quickly with no shot opportunity. We did hear 2 shots right after, confused cause we haven't seen any other hunters, road hunters, campers. We turned the corner and there are 4 guys working right in front of us trying to head off our group of 3 bucks. Great now what well we wanted to see which way they were going so we can go the opposite.. Well like I said this day was bad. saw 5 bucks and no doe's and we saw all the deer before 7:30 am. and we got cut off from our bachelor group . Sunday was ok day. Got back into the 30's and slightly over cast. While I was making my mourning duty, I kept on thinking we are going to double day. it was just a feeling I had. I'm making my way back over and my buddy jumps up in the air and throws his hand out and points torwards the hill. I'm thinking what the heck could it be??? two big bucks all alone at 400 yards ?? . . . . then he said he was glassing part of a finger and this white flash ran across the bottom of his binos and it was a buck chasing another buck off!!!! we picked them both up each of us watching one of the bucks. we high tailed it over torwards them still taking an hour or two with all the gorges and thick brush. spotted 8 doe's and one of the bucks. we got in front of them and tried to pick them up again. my buddy went down into the canyon and nothing came up. 9 deer dropped into this canyon and vanished. went up and worked a small bowl where we saw the 3 bucks the day before. nothing is jumping up and running like whitetail should. I find a good shaded place to sit under big boulders and waited a minute or two for my buddy to come up and join me. he said "I don't get it we pushed all this country that we saw dozens of deer before and we don't get a single glimpse." well I thought it's like any other hunt when it gets hunting pressure but there has only been 5 other hunters back here in 3 days!!? . . .then I say "I bet they are just walking out" and as soon as I said that my buddy see's a deer!!! and he stops behind a tree he loads his rifle, mine is already loaded since it was my shot next. Well it seemed like 5 minutes and we thought he vanished. he unloads his gun and the deer starts to move again!! . .he says buck buck. then he gets behind another tree great waiting and waiting . . .my buddy all of a sudden says there’s another right where he saw the lead deer come out ,a bigger buck!! and he is licking his butt. he mentioned can you see him and I said no I have to move to my right to see him. should I move?? he said no I got it. Boom the deer takes off and a third buck come up running behind the second. my buddy thinking he shot his deer said the third is going to walk where the first came out. . . we never see the lead buck leave so he is history. the third deer come out guessing 100-120 yards. center my rifle on his shoulder and squeeze. pick him back up in my scope and his looking like a bee just shot by him. I load another round and hold the rifle a little higher and blow rock right above him. now he's at a dead run and I just let 2 more bullets burn down the barrel. knowing I missed I still had to make sure I cleanly missed NEVER LEAVE A WOUNDED ANIMAL OUT IN THE FIELD!!! turns out we both missed our deer. our hopes were dashed and packed up camp. We both fell the day before and guns slapped the ground and not spare guns with us,, we thought that's why we missed both deer. We are going to shoot 'em at the range to see how badly we are missing or if we aren't missing and we just suck our hopes were dashed and packed up camp. [attac hment=28735:IMG_0184.JPG] Well i'll be back out there to get that huge buck here in couple weeks!!!!!!!!

it's not the same call but i got this buck growl think. MAD from drury outdoors guys. they tryed it in the field and brings big bucks in (keep in mind that they are hunting in the mid west) they shot the a doe for management and it was in heat. so when a buck wlked by it tried to get her up. But when a another buck showed up he buck growled at the other and chased him off. they took that sound and made a call. You can still make regular grunt and buck growl with same call. it might be the similar to your call that you have bought down in sv i tried it mule deer hunting making my way down a finger and got right above a nice 3x4 with 4 does and they didn't notice me (60 yards)

Out of these units, which would you choose for an archery bull elk hunt?
200"mulie replied to 308Nut's topic in Elk Hunting
none of the above!!! UNIT 1 OR 27 you can find big bulls anywhere. you just have to find them. but i would hunt 1 and 27 cause i know it the best and know how to stay away from hunters so i can get my big bull -
nice!!!!!!!!!!

i only hunt coues in the desert, not many trees to rub on. There are lots of bushes and brush that i think they rub off in, hard to dertermine because of the diversity of things that could have broken twigs and torn up bushes: deer, cats, bears, javelina, raccoons, Coati, ringtail, human. the rut (for me others might disagree) has been up and down. somedays there really hot and some days aren't, so don't get discouraged when your out there. GOOD LUCK !! i'll be out for a 170+ mulie down south

scouting the week before the oct. hunt had deer at 8 yards that didn't mind me walking around her but if i got closer than that should take couple steps away from me but didn't run. i thought she was trying to learn what i was and what i was doing there. it was pretty cool

i use scent cover from primos guys. smells like wet dirt. i haven't tried the can. i did happen to buy a buck grunt tube with the growl and used while mule deer hunting in jan. 2010. i didn't drawn any deer up to me, but thought i would sound like a deer that was close making all the racket coming down the finger. and it actually worked surprisingly (didn't know they would be bedded in the bottom)as i got above a buck and 4 doe's that didn't know i was there. i was guessing 60 yards maybe lil closer down hill. i didn't shoot cause i was not comfortable shooting outside of 40 since i was only been shooting for 2-3 weeks for a pig hunt. spot and stalk is your best bet with some sort of cover scent, could be dirt, doe in heat, apple whatever. try to have a buddy with you to guide you in when you can't see the deer or have him sent bust the deer torward you. good luck. i'm going out for 170"+ desert mulie that i should took last year

Is tihs a Big Black Bear?
200"mulie replied to Santana Outdoors's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
only true black colored black bears i've seen is up in the pines like you said most of them are cinnamon or brown colored. i would agree with elkhunter he looks young compared to other pics of bears, but really looks healthy. . looks like small piece missing from his ear. nice pictures -
anyone have experience with calling mule or whitetail in the rut? does it really work? do you need dense brush or high concentration of bucks? i've always either stocked on them or had someone try to scent bust them torwards me.

southern Az units safety questions?
200"mulie replied to 300 ultra mag's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
1.) Don't camp alone! or go by yourself! 2.) BP has beefed up a bit, but always be aware of your surroundings. 3.) You really shouldn't have a problem running into illegals/drug cartel. (If they see you first they'll avoid you. Don't want something going to spoil there plans.)thats my 2 cents. been pig hunting and couple deer hunts down there last couple years and never came acroos illegals only trash on there trails (sickens me) 4.) Good luck great coues country. -
Talk to some ppl that had gone down to mexico in the rut. said that calls usually don't work but rattling in some of the thick oak brush can get some deer coming in
