Most Wallow fire closures are OPEN!!

They were closing some roads and updated the new map with the 4 digit numbered roads. Thats what i was told by forest service lady in Alpine 2 years ago. Saw more turkey than elk over the weekend which is bad....but i'll take it cause maybe the mule deer herds will bounce back.

No Browns, but some are black

Knew it ... it is really sad about the dead elk. I saw more turkey this weekend than elk (i wasn't calling).....that is bad. Good looking sheds though

    Junior turkey success!

I have had good success puling the tom with a gobble call. Knight and Hale has a new one out that I have used this year and the turkeys seem to love it. I know of about 25 different roosts in the area and last night after we put the bird we killed this morning to bed it was still early enough we could run and check a couple others. At two different spots I Owl called and Coyote yelped with no responce so I used the gobble call and at both places the birds gobbled to it. I hit it in the dark early this morning to make sure he was still there before we started walking and he gobbled instantly and then never stoped. Interesting..you must have the magic touch...i either scare them away or they have no interest in leaving the hens. But will check out that new call out. And secondly when are you coyote yelping? Before sunrise, after, middle of the day?

    Junior turkey success!

Very nice sounds like the kids are going to have a great time. Coach don't about how you go about it, but I find it hard to pull them away from hens. The only success I had splitting them up was spooking them birds went everwhere. Next mourning went back to same spot and he was all alone. Good luck and hey i'll be in unit 27 if you need some help pm me before tomorrow mourning and give you my number. Andrew

    Spring Break Ventures

Sounds like a fun vacation, it is really to bad that the alpine area burnt up. That is my favorite place in the whole state. I was actually up there right before it went up in flames. On a turkey hunt trying to help my buddy. All we really talked about was how dry everything was. And why are there no fire restrictions like New Mexico had.

    Hunting mistakes and misses

This past January i had my hopes up for a big coues that i had spotted in the afternoon chasing a doe and keeping couple forks away from her. They got into a draw i couldn't see my rovky point. So i decided to hike in couple hundread yards. And try and locate them again. As soon as i got threw the jungle (literally couldn't see more then 10 yards)i finally stopped to glass. Couldn't find anything so figured they are bedded down. I did the same took a 30 min nap. Started glassing again and seeing lots of does starting to move. I debated to move torward where i saw the big buck or not to. This went on for 20 more minutes got everything ready to go. But since i was at the edge of the "jungle" i kept an arrow knocked just in case. I finally decide to move, when i catch movement to my right threw the "jungle". Must of only been 10-15 yards.....i swear i saw something i keep telling myself. I raise my nikon binos...and look and look. And thats and eyeball!! and a base of an antler!....2 seconds later the deer bolts torward this small gorge that ran along the edge of the "jungle". I started calling to him. He stopped behind a tree...and i start ranging the top of the gorge 55-70 yards. Then starts walking along the gorge looking for that deer that was calling....kept on going, i drew my bow, he step out broadside at 65 yards. Put my 60 yard pin a little high, calmed down cause i was shaking this whole time. Released..and hear WHACK!!! I'm thinking yes i just shot my first deer and it was an archery coues!....Pick up my binos and calling at the same time to calm him down. He stops only 30 yards up the hill...and i get a good luck at him.... no blood????? He finally took off up the hill. Now i rush over to where he was standing and there is no blood but my arrow was there broken in half. Got up under neath a big boulder (Loud whack noise i heard) But no blood clean miss. Still had an hour or two left and saw plenty other deer, even the small 2x2 i missed. That night i thought how could i have missed?? I think it happened so fast that i didn't see that the buck ducked. Cause my bow was shooting dead on 20-70 yards before and after. But was a good experience and can't wait for August

    somehow i missed this...awesome shed!

    AZGF what are you thinking?

The fact that there are increasingly more archery hunters every year is IMO the main cause of increase in kills. There is no way of knowing the true # of hunters in any given unit besides draw units (archery) and archery hunters who are successful. I'm sure the G&F can give us the # of OTC tags sold versus the success % by each year as a totall. People gain more experience with each time they go afield. Technology gets better, archers can shoot farther than ever before. While not in my abilities, 80-100yd shots are more common today than they were 8-10 years ago. Sittin water food or bait has no more guarantee than someone sittin a hot trail. James They do somewhere i swear i read it before....the actual otc tags, days hunted, success. Hmmm looks like ill be browsing for awhile.

    AZGF what are you thinking?

With the decline of animal numbers in the state of Arizona We can not go by guesses!!!!!! Everyone should be mandated to report their kills for every species of big game !! This is the only way to effectively manage the game.I have years of experiance im trying to guess the power ball numbers and still haven't won. Exactly! And like i said before all kills should be manditory or else!
  24. 200"mulie

how many points do you have?

only had 6. not drawn wasn't expecting it either. Got to have a bunch and then some luck on top it all
