thank goodness tag prices just went up. still gripes me that i can hunt out of state cheaper than i can hunt in my own backyard. and fish and games drives the newest trucks on the road. i think 50 bucks would be way too much to pay for an elk tag. what's more, we have some of the worst hunter opportunity for deer hunting in the US. and to have to pay premium prices the worst hunts imaginable.

looking back, i wish i would have played hookey more often and dumped school like a bad habit. and i mean that sincerely. but to each their own. just ask her what she wants to do. she probly already knows what is more important to her at this stage in her life.

i have a 3 1/2 inch gun, but it's not looking like i'll have time to do any waterfowling this season

here's my 2013 elk. he's a little guy but i'm still smilin' big!

don't know about phoenix, but End of the Line in Deer Creek was the only guy in the payson area taking elk yesterday.

we saw absolutely tons of elk, but couldn't find a decent bull. i'm confident they are in there, just avoiding me. the tracks indicate there are several good bulls roaming the hills, we just couldn't lay eyes on them. i went ahead and tagged out this a.m. on a spiker. i'm wondering if i should have been more patient. oh well, it was fun, and i'm thankful for the bull i did get.

i wouldn't do it. Asplund is in there clear cutting all the way to phoenix under the power line right now. They cut preacher canyon a few weeks back, and are at the round valley level, i think it's hole in the ground canyon right now. i went back there and checked 3 tanks for tracks and on the three there was 1 cow track and that's it. They had 6 trucks and a side by side parked on the very best elk trail back there. and i mean right on the trail. i was so bummed. I was determined to hunt over there, but after spending the bulk of saturday out there, i'm lookin' long and hard at the mazatzals. hope this helps.

i personally wouldn't sit water on a full moon for elk, but you could get lucky, you never know.

i drew 22s this year, but i can't imagine not being able to get away from the crowds in 23. It's a big place.

it took me months to find a good deal on a used stihl. ebay was high as a kite, and CL was trashed. finally found an 310 on a facebook site. it is beastly. just cut several chords of oak/juniper. unbelievable. i had an echo 370 before i bought the stihl. i was pleased with the echo, but the bar was chincy, and vibrated a lot, and was a little underpowered for big game.

crazy. i could never kill a buck like that. i'd just have a heart attack.
