    Bull down help appreciated

We almost hit you near River View Ranch. Lol, i saw everyone coming. Lots of hunters out this time of year, looking for critters while driving, and not necessarily seeing cyclists.

    Thieves among us.

that's frustrating. My truck got broken into 2 years ago up here and cleaned out. fortunately, i had most of my gear with me, but they got my arrows and my skb case. My car got broken into in front of my house a few months ago and they stole my son's fishing stuff. My suspisions are that druggies are selling it on ebay. There's a sporting goods dealer that used to be in star valley, who is now on ebay. I'm guessing the druggies are selling it to him, or people like him. This has become a real problem up here.

lol, you can say what you want about Ron, the grouchy guy by the airport, but, -he is old, and... -he gave me the best cuts of meat i've ever seen or had, on my the last elk i gave him. I didn't know the deer creek guy was gone. too bad.

    Trekking poles for hunting?

http://blackdiamondequipment.com/en_US/trekking-poles/trail-sport-3-BD1121910000ALL1.html#start=19 i've been happy with these. my friend said don't get carbon poles, they flex too much under a load, which is a no go when you have an elk quarter on your back in steep terrain.

    Trekking poles for hunting?

i use the black diamond collapsible poles. i can hook them to loops on the side of my pack when not in use, and grab them for when i got an elk quarter on my back. they will save you.

most box stores sell absolute junk. Check out products from Armstrong like Luxe, look at Paradigm, Bealieu, or Shaw's floorte. While none of these products are cheap, they are all very legit. https://www.facebook.com/mountainhomeinteriors/ Come by my store and i'll give you a CWT discouunt.

    Monday Check in

rode my bike from Carrizozo to Ruidoso. It was an uphill battle. beautiful country up there. it's caught my eye, and with arizona getting so crowded now days, new mexico is looking pretty good. i wonder if i could make a living over there. we saw tons of muleys, elk, and antelope on the trip.

Any backpackers on CWT hike the AZT?

i do think equestrians should at least shovel the poo off the trail. You speak of untouched and untamed... i'm not sure why there is so much conflict between mountainbikers and equestrians, Can't we just all get along? lol. Laughable. Last year you were hitting me up for elk spots in your neighboring Wilderness areas along the AZ Trail you'd never set foot in, now your complaining about horse crap, lol. Truth is I see far more human crap along the trail than horse crap. In fact over the last several decades, I've rarely even encountered other horsemen. Laughable? We went in on foot and found elk. I drew, but didn't shoot on a questionable shot angle, but my buddy sealed the deal. Took 4 guys two days on the packout. I dont think i hit you up, i think you volunteered; but we decided to go in on our own recon. And i appreciate your offer, it was very generous. I think you're right about the human poo issue as well, theres probly far more of that than horse poop on the trail. But that is beside the fact that horses cause more eco damage than a bicycle ever could. Horsemen hate cyclists, and cyclists hate horsemen equally as well. Im not sure the ill feelings are warranted. Its just nonmotorized transportation. Heres one of the packers, deep in the wilderness on that hunt.

There is an arizona trail mountain bike race each year. it's a pretty legendary deal. currently, the race routes around the wilderness areas, however, there is current legislation to allow bikes to use the trail, and other trails in wilderness areas. hopefully this law passes. Is it National Wilderness or State Wilderness? It would have to pass on a National level if it is federal land. I know when I was looking at a trip into the Gila Wilderness the rule was no wheeled vehicles. That means if you had a game cart you would have to take the wheels off and put it on skids. We were able to bike 5 miles in with trailers behind the bikes to the wilderness boundary. Then we had to leave them and continue on foot into the wilderness. Sure am glad nobody was out cleaning up the forest of "abandoned" property chained and locked to trees. Federal.

lol. a bicycle does far less eco damage than a horse, everybody knows that. if they open the wilderness areas up to bikes, it's not going to be like you think it is. it won't be crowded and such. What it will do is allow people who can't afford/don't have horses to get back in there a bit. bikes are quiet and minimalist, much more so than pack animals. we're not talking about downhill, "slopestyle" trails like what's found at ski resorts and such, but long distance bike packing trails. bikepacking is a challenge in it's own right, much more physically demanding than riding on a horse or hiking. plus, bikes don't normally leave giant piles of poo in the trail. this is bike packing, much of which involves hiking with a bike.

    SW Colorado Family Camping Tips

We just went up there, but didn't fish. I took my mountain bike to Phil's World in Cortez. Fun stuff. We also drove to Silverton for a day, and i would highly recommend Serious Texas Barbecue. Mostly we hung out with friends we have up there.
