Santana Outdoors $200 "Winners Posted!"
silencedmajority replied to Santana Outdoors's topic in Sponsor Spotlight
I put in a review for the only product I own on your website. Looking very good! -
I've always done really well with 1/8th gold kastmasters. I've caught the most trout after stockings either near blue point bridge or the phon d sutton recreation area. At phon d sutton, a splitshot sinker and small hook with a night crawler tossed into some small rapids has gotten me limits too. Good luck and have fun!

Those are my sizes, I would have some interest pending prices.

I like mine, got a javelina with one back in January. I use an HHA Optimizer. The pin is really bright, the whole thing is very sturdy out of machined parts, but heavy. It is awesome at the range. In the field I tend to set it at a given yardage (30) and know where I will have to aim to hit vitals at 20 or 40 from my practice at the range. In my experience and with my bow, I don't need to move much up or down. But at the range, I can move the slider and it is very, very accurate.

For a while there in the summer they had excellent BBQ outside Merle's Valley Bar on Fridays, maybe Saturdays too. Might be worth a call to see if they are still doing that. I believe it was called the "Kook out". Alice's Cantina serves food, I don't particularly care for them though. Antlers is rebuilding now.

Check out the footage of this TOAD!

OMG!!! What a pig! Bruiser!!! -
I have a 98 XJ, I couldn't be happier with it. The 00 and 01 have better intake manifolds, and slightly better motor. However, the 01 went with a slightly different transfer case so ground clearance got limited by about 2 inches. Always try to get the 4.0L inline 6 motor. Most XJ Cherokees with have either the Chrysler 8.25 rear end or the Dana 30 rear axle, the Dana 30 is notorious for breaking axles if you put bigger tires on it. You can tell if you are looking at an 8.25 rear end if there is a flat piece of metal on the housing pointing to the ground on the pumpkin, the Dana 30s are approximately round on the bottom (looking from the back of the vehicle). I could go into lots of detail between years, but basically I would stick with 98+. They made some very good changes starting in the 98 model year into the last year of production. Either way, any year of XJ cherokee is easy to upgrade with some dirt cheap junkyard parts pulled from other cherokees.

I got one in the archery only hunt. Only saw the one herd out of 5 or so days of hunting.

I've heard "fantail" to describe the common name of a smaller subspecies of whitetail deer in Florida, possibly one that was once found on the florida keys. Also, I think the further south you go from here, the smaller the whitetail subspecies get. In the past many of our wildlife species were split in many different subspecies and species based on things like color and size. I read somewhere that at one point, naturalists listed Arizona as having upwards of 10+ "species" of bear.

I noticed you had your hood cracked open, but the rat was still in there doing his work. That is funny, because I've been places where they tell you to always leave you hood open overnight, so that rodents don't get in there and do their magic.

I took my bird home in a cooler, then I held it by the feet and dumped a pot of boiling water over the feathers. Plucking didn't take long after that, then some pliers for the pins.

I would not salt within 1/4mi of a stock tank, because ranchers are not supposed to have salt that close to water (livestock operations) and might remove your salt if they are grazing the area. You might do it if you are 100% sure the pasture is not being used that particular year.

I've packed out 2 deer on it so far and it a dream, even with a very heavy load. I took an entire quartered mulie out about a mile (mostly downhill) and I'm very happy with it. Be careful with the quick releases on the frame on them though, they are made of light but very cheap aluminum alloy and will break very easily.

I've stayed at "Rainbow's End Bed and Breakfast", and it was the cheapest in town when I stayed. They may have changed names since then. They gave us a little suite type thing in the horse stables, had it all to ourselves. I left too early and got there too late to try any of the food. The steakhouse in town in excellent, just a little bit pricey.

Legal question
silencedmajority replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I know of someone that got a small fine for taking about 1/2 ton of river rock from USFS land. I also know that you can get a permit for some rock, the fee depending on the amount. If you want it from USFS land, I recommend calling your local ranger station and ask to talk to someone about a minerals permit. -
Best Offroad/ Hyway tires for Coues Country
silencedmajority replied to Santana Outdoors's topic in Other Hunting Gear
I run 31" tires, and have nothing but good things to say about BFG All Terrain T/As. They have a three ply kevlar sidewall. Sometimes I will even air them down to about 11 psi for the backcountry, and the sidewalls take a beating. No noise on highway and excellent wear. I'd like to try the General Grabber ATs, though. I've heard good things about them too. -
Pm'ed you about the boots.
-
I've run chains on the front tires on my jeep in caliche mud. I'm pretty sure I wasn't getting out without them, but I wouldn't do it unless you had to, it really tears up the road.

if ya see a bear, don't call it in
silencedmajority replied to .270's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
As soon as a public agency is notified of a bear near dwellings, with the way lawsuits are going on now, they can be held accountable for the bear's actions. Damned if you do, damned if you don't type situation. I do not envy having to make the call on "nuisance" bears. -
Very, very sharp agave leaf points gets my vote.

Ever wonder how AGFD conducts surveys for deer?
silencedmajority replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Jim says: "This is an over-simplified example but gives you an idea of what can be done" a few lines below. Wildlife managers don't use total square mileages of units, they probably use figures estimating vegetation types to account for the appropriate habitats of each species.
