7mm-08 vs 6.5 creedmoor
WHT_MTNMAN replied to bonecollector777's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Well since Lark isn't around anymore, it needs to be said by someone. 6.5 Creedmoor 7mm-08 just sounds like a woman's cartridge -
Years ago some of the depredation hunts were for ANY elk. Not sure if that hunt is the same. I found a great big ol velvet bull for my buddy that had a similar hunt but he was about 1/2 mile away and the bull was moving out of the hunt area. We ate the tag but it would have been very cool to shoot a big ol velvet bull.

Polaris Ranger is great if you like to work on your own vehicle...a lot....

Man that is soo cool. Congrats on a great Ram and mount. Every year I don't draw makes me think it will probably never happen.

I believe social media has been the most recent cause of the "change". Before that it was Internet, websites like this. Before that TV shows, before that Newspaper, Before that Big buck contests in the local sporting good stores, before that money (commercialization of pigeons and bison). So on and so forth. There will always be something, hunting is always changing. How are we going to influence it for the better, and what are we teaching our posterity are the questions I'm worried about. I have almost given up all social media because of the current trend, but I still love to get on this site and read others stories, see others successes and share my own. To me it is much bigger than the "look at me "attitude. I've made quite a few friends on this site and I hope I can contribute to make it better. This site would be so much better if more people shared their stories and pictures. I see and read too many of the "regulars" that do not contribute for one reason or another but then complain about this site going downhill. Hunting, CW.com and many other things in life are what you make them. To me CW.com means enough to me that I try to do my part in making it a great place to be.

Not to derail Bonecollectors thread, but what is your most memorable Coues! For me it was my first Archery Coues buck on Christmas Eve Unit 33 Spot and Stalk My son killed this on a backpack hunt and it was incredible. Made a perfect shot on a bedded buck at 401 yards. Don't Mind the backpack, all down hill from here, little off balance.

I killed an archery bull elk at 5 yards and rifle mule deer at 5 feet running full tilt with a hip shot with a 30-06. I've also killed quite a few at ranges I don't want to discuss here.

Now thats my kind of "forky"

I love the look of that ol Roman nose. Great heavy buck!

Well maybe I see it a little differently. I am a small business owner in a small town, but I would be very flexible and try and work things out the best we can. I try and make my customers as happy as possible. I don't necessarily think they did anything wrong but could have been more compassionate and a little more flexible IMO Maybe that is why I am still a SMALL business owner.

I get fewer bulls on camera during the real dry weeks leading up to the monsoons. Hopefully the big bulls will be back. Couple of good pics though. Good 5x with giant thirds, hopefully he tops out well. Also that 8x7 is pretty cool. Has double 3rds on his right side. Bonus Coues

I would bet he grows a 5th but not sure. He could finish out as a real big bull.

Thanks everyone, I had a great Birthday weekend with family and friends. I was able to get out for a bit on Saturday. Thanks

UPDATED!!! Who in phoenix still makes game meat sausage? 2 i used no longer take game

I grew up processing our own beef to multiple elk/deer a year. I actually enjoyed it... Well my wife let's me do about anything with my mounts, put them all over the house, front room etc...it is full of them. The ONLY thing she doesn't like is her kitchen table/counter being used as a meat processing shop. It is worth a little extra money to me to make sure she is happy. I'll never cast judgement on someone that doesn't do it themselves. -
I'm just the opposite, I have absolutely no problem shooting a cat, I actually cut my bowhunting teeth on the feral cats that came into my yard as a boy. (I wonder if that is why the neighbor lady still hates me?)

I love horses, I most likely could not participate in a "hunt" for them, but I completely support the effort to eliminate or at very least drastically reduce horses on public lands.

I wish the guide pant was in solid. Great cold weather pant.

Happy birthday!

These are almost all descendents of rez horses and horses let loose during tough economic years when people could not sell horses or afford to feed them so they turned them loose. I have hundreds on my cameras in 3c and have for many years...just getting worse..

I'm 6' 3" and 215. I have a problem with many jackets that do not come in a long size. The end of the sleeves creep up my arms. Something about it really annoys me. I will put a jacket on and pretend to draw a bow. If the end of the sleeve starts heading for my elbow we have a problem. This eliminates many potential sources of clothing. I have not noticed long sizes in Kuiu, how does the sleeve length fit you?Kuiu sleeves are very long..I have fairly long arms and they are almost too long for me...XL size.

And yet you are wearing what appears to be a Guide DCS vest in Vias in your avatar photo.... I really like the Major Brown items, I wish more offerings in it. My point exactly..."almost"

I'm 6'2" and 205 I wear xl in everything. I hate the "trendy" aspect of Kuiu camo but I love this gear and so I buy almost everything in solid colors.

Long story but I had the chance to "hunt" with my good buddy Greg Hines on the WMAT rez. Greg is a stud and thanks again for the opportunity Here are a few pictures. I actually sat over bait almost 11 days. Giant bears are hard to come by. I spent 4 days with my bow saw a bunch of small bears and then this last week decided not to waste any more of Gregs time and sat with a rifle. I got to share the experience with some of my family. A big black sow came and in and shortly after this big boar came in and with long color phased hair (and my son with me) I decided to take him. Should be pushing 21" and probably around 350lbs. Great times with great friends.
