Ever since I was a kid growing up one of my dads favorite things to say. "You are only half a man without a Leathermam on you" I swear he hasn't taken his off in 30 years.

Live Trap- trying to remove a coyote in town.
WHT_MTNMAN replied to AntlerObsession's topic in Classified Ads
You can still use them on private property. But again like Tomgobbler said they may not be allowed in city limits. It would be a waste of time trying a live trap IMO. -
Condolences to Blue Ridge Faithful

I saw that the other day...sad day for his family. Quite the legend up here on the mtn. I also played against BR back in the mid 90s. We along with many others didnt have a win against BR during those times -
That's awesome! Great pictures of a good time. Memories forever!

Guess the score (updated with score)
WHT_MTNMAN replied to trphyhntr's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I knew you know all about it so that is why I questioned everything I said. I have utmost respect for those that want to be legit, and do it right. I think some outfitters exaggerate of course (fame etc..) but what I worry about is the "new guy" that quickly looks up on the internet how to score and adds tip to tip and greatest outside etc...and come up with an exaggerated score. I've seen way too many 85-90" bucks that are touted as 100"+. It diminishes those true 100"+ bucks when people do that. This one of trphyhntrs friend at 105 is an absolute great buck, but most people judged it high because it is a great buck and in order to be a great buck it must score in the teens or 20s. Which isnt true. -
Guess the score (updated with score)
WHT_MTNMAN replied to trphyhntr's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Ed even then I can be skeptical. Tell me if I'm wrong, but I've wanted to become an official measurer for quite some time and if I remember correctly in order to become official you have to be + or - 2% so on a 100" Coues deer someone could score it 98: or 102" and still become an official measurer. I know of a few "official" measurers who have the reputation of being "too" conservative and some that have the reputation of scoring everything higher. Both are within the standard deviation so to speak. In all fairness the ones that I've seen that I don't nessasaerily trust are the "official" SCI measurers. I know Pand Y and B and C have a lot better training and classes. -
Very cool video...big cats are an awesome animal

Great bucks! Father/ son time is the best!

I've found that if you take the photo horizontally with your phone it will post correctly, if you take the picture vertically it posts it sideways. this is with Android, Iphone posts them upside down I believe but I would also try the quick edit rotate trial and error and then remember which way you did it for future reference.

Yeah as long as the outfitter holds up his end of the deal. We are hoping it works out

Let me tell you a quick story...3 days ago one of the guys in my group didnt pick his cape clean enough so we were told we could go back across pick again and bring it back...we walked across, picked ticks some more and walked back to the US side. Absolutely no problems. I would drive up to the US side talk to the agents specifically the fish and wildlife tell them what is going on, cross to MX side get your buck as long as the paperwork is all good back in 30 minutes. They may even tell you a place to park. In 100% disclosure I have never crossed for deer hunting at Nogales..we cross in Douglas

Well you are on the safe side for sure and I shouldn't have even said that but I talk with INS agents all the time about this and for me what he is doing I wouldn't worry about it, but you are right. Better to be safe than sorry for sure.

If I was going down to get my skull depending on the port I would park my truck in Walmart use the pedestrian walkway pick up the antlers and paperwork and cross back over in 30 minutes. Maybe WW has to go all the way back to the ranch in that case "maybe" I would but If he was being met at the border I wouldn't worry about it.

Wild woody I would never try to take a gun back...you dont need it to get your buck back...all you need is the Contract/UMA form Notice of Arrival and Fish and wildlife form filled out properly, and your tag matching said UMA form. I wouldn't even get Mexican INS, truck permit or Visa or anything. You legally do not need any of that stuff, unless you are going a long ways down into Mx. Pm me if you want

Another Phenomenal Hunt and Time in Sonora MX.
WHT_MTNMAN replied to Ernesto C's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
Great bucks and it is truly a wonderful adventure -
I've seen and killed lots of Coues but besides the ring around the nose and tail that buck looked and acted like a mule deer in that video. Truth be told I havent seen very many 150" typical coues, ok not even 1, so I have no clue...just a cool buck

Great looking buck, I hope it goes smooth getting him across.

As some of you may know I've spent quite a bit of time hunting Coues and it is by far my passion but since I've made a yearly pilgramage to Mx for coues I've decided to spend a bit more time chasing Mule deer. Well my wife and I travelled to Wy on a 6 day backpack hunt. I was disappointed that this buck was the highest scoring buck I saw, but not disappointed in his "look" I was happy to kill him and pack him back with my beautiful bride of 19 years by my side. Next my Son drew a tag up around the house and after me scouting and finding some solid bucks he reminded me that he couldn't play basketball if he missed any days of school or tryouts so after passing a couple solid 3x4s on Friday he told me he needed to shoot something. As disappointed that all of my scouting would be as not, I have never been the father to live vicariously through his children. He wanted this velvet 4x4 ( October 28th) and so he shot him. I'm proud of him. Next I was able to finish 2018 in a blizzard at 15° on this 4x4 with a 45ish yard shot. Sorry about all the mixed up pictures in the story. I haven't mastered the new look yet.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I've killed all sorts of critters with my bow over the years but I am going through a phase of life with new business growth, kids getting older, school activities, sports etc...that I havent spent the time I would like to hunt for myself and so a little luck was really appreciated in the snow storm. Couple more pics.
