Congrats on getting it done. Great pictures!

Catfishkev got me thinking it would be fun to guess the score on a few bulls. I know these are a little amateurish compared to many of you but these are the pictures I found from years past. I think this will show many people how difficult it is to judge a bull from pictures. Disclaimer: these are not official scores nor are they exact but all but one I scored myself and even though I am not an official scorer I spend lots of time learning the proper way to score and I bet they are within a few inches of the official score. 1 Bull 2 Bull 3 Bull 4 Bull 5 6 BTW just overall gross

Here are a few more pictures and the Scores. 1. 344 as is. left beam broken still 54" right beam touch over 59" 2. 368" almost 34" of mass per side. Notice my friends hand up high on the beam. I had about 30 min to judge him im his bed at under 200 yards and he deceived me bad. I could only tell my buddy he was over 350" but I,didnt know how much over. 3. 375" he was way more impressive on the hoof than my pictures show...i thought he was 340" tops though. He was impressive hard horned. I have some video hard horned but cant seem to,find it.. 4. 341" with 5th repaired and photoshopped. Actually score was around 334" 315ish frame but 25" and 26" 3rds 5. 283" 6. If I remeber correctly it was 371" I'm positive it was close to that but there is no way to verify since my uncle just gave it away to someone to make knives out of...i was sick that he didnt call me.. IMO some of the hardest qualities of a bull to judge are beam length and mass..know the area you hunt and what is normal. 3c is notorious for having good beams and weak 3rds and average mass. Lots bulls in unit 1 have beams barely into the 50s. with the age class dropping mass will most likely be under average IMO. My best advice is shoot the bull that you want that gives you the opportunity. I passed on a chance at a better scoring bull the morning I killed the big 3rds bull because I had some history with the 3rds bull. ...he was stuck in my mind. I was ecstatic no matter the score.,Especially for late archery. The year I killed that 283" Bull I hunted for 11 or 12 days for 2 bulls that I thought were in the 375"-390" range and couldnt get it done. I was tickled pink to shoot that bull last day and gain more experience.

I have the Wy and the Nevada. If backpacking or rough country go Nevada. If more of an all around go Wy or lots of guys like the summit.

Google is a great tool, I'm pretty sure 260 for typical and 300 or 310 non typical. 260 and 300

Super excited for him on that hunt. That will be awesome. Hunter is a stud and I'm hoping for a giant for him!

So cool. That will be a great adventure! Looking forward to it.

June is the by far the best month for pictures so as long as they are out before then, I am happy. Usually put them out in the middle of May.

It takes an hour and 35-45 minutes from Young Road to most parts of Mesa no stops.

Holy spurs !! What a fantastic looking bird. Nicely done!
-
Congrats that is very awesome, what a tough hunt.

I've been going multiple times a year for 26 years ( might have missed 2 or 3 years ) first of May is on average the soonest you would want to go...my bet is that with the moisture may 15th would be about the soonest. But who knows..add me to the pm list...:)

Bob- baiting is one of my least favorite ways to "hunt" but I treasure the time I got to spend on the rez baiting bear with my sons. I traded work for the opportunity and I will treasure that time as much as any I've ever had. Absolutley nothing wrong with it. It is such a better way to manage bears. We passed up over 40+ young bears in 2 different hunts before I shot a big mature bear.

It has become way too common place. So sorry to hear Jason, my thoughts are with you and the family.

Tundra if you are planning on keeping it and if you dont mind the limited mpg. I have 210k on my 2010 and the only thing mechanical is that I lost my fuel pump in Dec at 208k miles and I put a stick through the radiator. No leaks anywhere and still doesn't burn oil...You have seen where I take mine on an almost daily basis. It is my wood getting truck, hunting rig and daily driver.. I do wear tires fast after I torqued my frame couple years back after hitting the end of a tow strap too many times. Consequences of getting calls in the middle of the night. My father has an 01Tundra that had fuel pump replaced at 230k. No leaks at all and has 345k on it right now..my brother still uses it as a daily driver still. I am sold on the strength and reliability of a Tundra, I have owned a fair amount of trucks but dont see myself owning anything different. That being said there are plenty of good trucks out there but not many that will give you good service over 150k.

They didnt shoot them accurately past 300 or 400 yards either. Recoil isnt about how tough you are. Smh -
It is always crazy to see what happens to antlers. I posted this before but worth seeing again. Very unique antler configuration. I'm betting damage in velvet also.

We have had it pretty good since monsoon season. This was in June.

I would bet they dont have the resources to keep everything open on a storm that comes through every 20 years or so. I would rather them close it than waste all those resources in years we dont get anything. Everyone knew this was coming plan accordingly
