Favorite Elk Bullet? Average shot distance in AZ?
WHT_MTNMAN replied to excaliber's topic in Elk Hunting
FWIW I talked with a guy last weekend that said he has almost exclusively used Berger bullets when they first came out. He was/is a rifle builder and guide in Mexico and elsewhere and stated that when the Berger bullet was "bought" or started to be produced by Lapua the quality decreased significantly, (IDK) they had to stop using them due to stories just like yours. I have all of my bullets from 2008 so that may be a reason that my results have been different. just more thoughts. -
What units did you put in for? I have 16 and didn't get drawn but I also knew that I wasn't going to get in the bonus pass and so my chances were almost nil I've only put in for archery the last 5 years but I've been picky which archery tag I want to draw, I know I could draw some of the units for sure.

Looks Great! congrats again on a fine billy

Pronghorn, deer and coyotes so far. I wouldn't hesitate to use them on elk at reasonable distances

We have killed a bunch of critters with them. Awesome so far.

Teamwork and spotting/guiding a shooter in on a buck
WHT_MTNMAN replied to LonePineOutdoors_AZ's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I hunt with a friend that is 82 and I use a radio every time he is spotting for me. Even then it is very tough. I rarely if ever carry radios, I sure wished I had radios in AK this year when my buddy saw a giant Kodiak brown bear sow and cub walking down the ridge from me. As it was it wasn't until they were 25-30 yards unarmed (well I did have a fixed broadhead lol) that I saw her and I about lost my bowels. -
Lifetime Hunting Fishing Combo License

I forgot about it. Picked up a couple. Thanks -
I'm fairly new into it. I have one .22 can and I'm waiting for my "everything" can. At least for your first suppressor I would get one that you can use on multiple weapons, I wish I would have done it that way the first time. I'm right at 11 1/2 months right now. Contact me if you have any other questions.

To Fragment, or not to Fragment..
WHT_MTNMAN replied to CouesPursuit's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
In order to cause as much damage as possible and kill quickly I like the idea of fragmenting, that being said I too hate looking for little pieces of fragmented bullets in my animals as I process them. -

Trust me i know and with a bad experience you never want to run that risk. I just thought I would share that I have had very good results. Most of the elk were big bulls but a few cows as well. I have a good buddy that has had the absolute worst luck with a certain broadhead but my experience has been just the opposite. If you mentally do not trust a bullet or broadhead there is no reason to use it...So many good alternatives out there. I am so jealous of your bull though...so cool. I'm sure glad you were able to get him killed. -

My 300 ultra with 210 bergers have killed over 25 elk in the last 10 years from 25 yards to 870 without any problems at all. IMO you hit too far forward with your bull quartered away that hard. No way you were going to hit lungs. My .02 I know there are many bullets as good or better but the Berger does just fine with good placement. -
Lifetime Hunting Fishing Combo License
WHT_MTNMAN replied to IA Born's topic in Contests and Giveaways!
Can the winner "gift" it to a family member? Im already a lifetime license holder. -
Its because people can find the "HD's" for $1750 or 1800 about anytime they want. Not trying to knock the OP just answering why they haven't sold IMO.

That is a great bull!!

Clay is very good. He mounted my Caribou and Im extremely happy. I dont have any up close pictures but I can show a pic of my bou and some Coues to go with it. 👍

My personal best in my avatar right at 115"

Giant body is right. You can almost always use ears as a reference. Some pictures can be very deceiving but ultimately you can not hide or change the ears. On that buck the ears are giant so it all is very deceiving. One of my favorite all time bucks for sure.

Great buck!! Looks like a mid to high teens buck. Sweet

Congratulations. If you mean an absolute clean 3x3 with eye guards ( an 8point) and no extras at all my guess it is in the high 120s. Ive seen a few in the 130s and above but most have an extra or two.

None of those are even close to " 8's "

Lost or Stranded/FUBAR scenarios while hunting.

Ive never been lost, just "turned around" a few times. Back in the school days I fell into this rut and was high centered for 2 days trying to get out... Notice my tent in the background. Finally had to walk a few miles to get service to call my dad. Ive been on this site a long time. -
Busted left Eyeguard and busted split G2??? Or just deformed? either way incredible mass and it takes a lot to break mass like that. Impressive buck

Beautiful buck!!
