Dan those are great finds, thanks for sharing I love those extras off of the 5ths. Awesome Houston

gnoto-I like the sierritas also. I'm glad they blocked the road to the mine from McGee ranch it should make it better for those that get out and walk a bit. I glassed up a couple of bucks on Red Boy peak and then missed a shot, at least I got a Nov. hunt, hopefully Oct. hunters don't get him. I've spent a little time in the cerros but haven't spent anytime in the Las Guijas (sp). I think I'll spend some time in down there in Nov. Anyway, I sure can't wait until then.

Back from our goat hunt...
WHT_MTNMAN replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Congrats on some nice goats. Way to go, good luck on your coues hunt later. Sure is a great time of year. Houston -
That is a cool experience, i was once archery deer hunting in 4a and saw a group of cow elk headed toward me, i watched as they passed about 20 yards and then got up and headed down the trail they came in on. I saw a lone cow about 100 yards off and I layed down in the tall grass in the trail. She kept coming and walked over the top of me and as she smelled me she turned on a dime and stepped on my thigh and my ankle, then circled around and headed back up the trail, pretty fun.

Congrats on good bull, way to go.

Well, I try to take notes, I keep a little journal but moon or what not won't determine if I go out or not. As one wise man ( I use that term loosely Bullwidgeon ) said, to this effect, If I waited until the moon or whatever was perfect I'd probably not ever get out. I get such limited amount of time in the hills that I go when I get to go, (when my wife says I can. ) If there is a full moon the night before, then well good. If not then that is good also at least I am out.

Congrats looks like a very nice bull, thanks for the story

Well I'm still trying to formulate my opinions. Last night was a bright moon and I was sitting in one of my favorite spots that I usually glass 15-20 deer before 8am. This morning. I only glassed 6 deer, two were bucks (one very nice one) that I watched bed down around 9 almost an hour later than every other time I've been out this summer. I don't know what I think yet, still too new to this game to know. I do believe that wind is HUGE, I never see alot of deer on windy days, but again I'm still postulating.

Putting things in perspective
WHT_MTNMAN replied to DesertBull's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Good call Desertbull, I think we all need to donate more than we usually do, sure is tough times. I remember all the help we got in the Show Low area during the Rodeo-Chediski fire. It is great to see others helping fellow human beings. -

Do you have some money burning a hole?
WHT_MTNMAN replied to BASS's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Bass-just to clarify my statement, the way they were hanging on the racks made them look alot alike. When you take each one down, they have their own features and look different. I'm going back today to look at them some more. -

Amanda I was in there looking for the Just One and it was right below the gunslinger, you couldn't tell them apart until you pulled it off the rack. Looks pretty good. I think I like it alot. -
That is a great find, thanks very nice Josh

I spent some time up mt. ord last weekend, saw a few does this weekend went down to 36a lots of deer one half way decent buck (80+) nothing huge. I think I'm playing dad this weekend and next weekend hope to make it either down to 36a or 27 for opener.
-
I was thinking that today,( 11 more days) I'll be down in 36a and 27 later on.
-
GR- I think that with all the water they will tend to move less. They have all they need in one spot. I spent a 2 days down in 36a and most of the deer I saw stayed in the same area (within a hundred yards) from morning to night. And likewise most of the deer I saw in the evening were pretty close to the same spot the next morning. Well anyway it was sure good to see all the water, looks to be a good year.

My father is a general contractor in Show Low, when I grew up I did concrete, build houses and drive truck. Now I am a full-time dental student at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health. If you need any teeth extracted give me a call and I'll meet you out at the woodshed with my leatherman. In two years after I graduate I plan to set up a practice in the White Mountains

I was wondering the same thing, I saw this guy dead and rotten just a couple of weeks ago. I wonder if he died in the tree or someone put him there. I didn't see any bullet holes or any trauma.

Amanda, I've taken my velbon efl's out about 6 times since I've gotten them and had some good success, I really like it, (don't know any different, but they seem very nice) Thanks so much for the help, all the questions I asked etc... I sure appreciate it. Houston -

WHT_MTNMAN replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I got some new 15x's and also the velbon efl tripod from Amanda, spent too much money so couldn't get the jim white head but will next year. Amanda I have a northface down bag that I love, and a small Eureka backpack tent, not as good as others but not too bad either. I'm looking at a new backpack but not till the next few years. -
