Now that you mention it I think I was in Colorado, I've seen some big bucks come out of CO over the years. Here is one my uncle shot. another one

Well I got a chance to go see some new country over in unit 23. This is my first year getting a tag in NM, so I needed to spend a few days trying to find out where to concentrate my efforts. Saw a few WT, quite a few mulies some bucks at 1 1/2 miles away and a few Elk about 30 miles north of Silver City. Here a couple of pics of the journey. Good mule deer country Pink eared Doe More Does close range ( I snuck up on these in 4 low )

I've also been somewhat intrigued by survival and have found the only thing I would ask for is a good strong knife. Preferrably one with a strong tip, straight/serrated edge, like this one. SOG KNIVES With a knife you can make fire without matches, strikers etc... just good ol rubbing two pieces of wood together.

I'll add my wishes also... Happy Birthday Jason

3rd Place for Coues in Biennial Bowhunting in Arizona
WHT_MTNMAN replied to bowsniper's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Hey Bret, how come you keep posting that pic.. I think I've seen it at least twice now. You'd think you knew the guy or something. J/K I Never get tired of seeing that buck, that is one awesome buck and one dreams are made of. Congrats bowsniper on the tremendous buck. -
So far I would have to say the wac ems pattern the best for me at those distances. I've tried the Montecs, and strikers and a few others out to 50, but I think I like the wac em for the long distance. I've decided to carry the Tekan II's (not fixed) for longer shots as they shoot well out as far as I will ever shoot, and they are very tough. For anything else I'll probably shoot the wac ems and the striker.

Switchback XT 70# 30" Winners Choice Strings Acc's Montec if I get lucky for Elk Wacem if I hunt for mulies and Tekan II's for Coues. All fly perfect, just depends what I want that day

I'm shooting the ACC's and love them so far. Thinking about the full metal jacket for ease of pulling out of targets. I like the aluminum/carbon design.

Well I wanted to buy a new bow for the January hunt, but realized that wouldn't be the best idea so I waited and bought one the first week in Feb. I've already had to replace the D-loop so If i'm not ready now.... then I never will.

AZ Record Carp Shooter Facing Felony?
WHT_MTNMAN replied to BASS's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
It very well might be a story but my buddy who does the Taxi work for a well known company up there, told me he saw it and majestics on Porter Mtn Road is doing the taxi work for the Game and Fish. I didn't see pics myself but supposed to be a big buck around 215 I believe. I also have spent a little time looking around for the buck, and havent' found anything difinitive yet. -
Sweet finds and getting through school is a great accomplishment. Looks like your priorities are in the right place.

2006 Archery Sights- Which one is your favorite?
WHT_MTNMAN replied to AZP&Y's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I think the key is "to extend legal shooting hours" IMO it is okay to have them on to be able to see pins better during regular shooting hours. I put a light on my SDP for my kansas turkey hunt because I was going to be in a pop up blind in the dark trees, even at 8 am it is still pretty dark inside. I also like the sure lok someday I hope to own one, right now no real complaints with my spot hogg -
What's your best trophy or photo?
WHT_MTNMAN replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Sorry more than one just a couple that mean something special, more than the actual quality of the picture. -
Weather makes a huge difference. I was in Kansas last week and had lots of birds making noise the first morning until it started to rain. Didn't hear a singel gobble the next three days. Finally ambushed a young tom (sounds better than a 2 or 3 year old jake). Lots and lots of birds, no noise.

Well I took my boy out big game hunting yesterday. Got out of school and took a real long road trip, (bout 5 miles) to find these bad boys. I went 3 for 3 and then proceded to miss the next two shots. Ranged one at 33 yards, the other at 22. One I shot at 31 yards had enough left in him to get down in his hole. Here is my son, my monster off-road vehicle, Couswhitetail.com sticker and this afternoons take. I finally think I'm tuned and shooting ok, ready for hunting season.

Hey Andy cool pic, too bad you weren't able to make it with them, I think I'm due for an introduction and added to the hunting buddy list.

The AZ One Shot Challenge
WHT_MTNMAN replied to aintnopilgrim's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
In not so colorfull language I agree with Lark. For me personally what dictates ethics is not what kind of shot is taken, but what is done after the shot is taken. Do you check and make sure you missed (if you think you did) or if you did hit the animal do you really spend the next 4 days looking for your wounded animal, or do you just say, oops another one got away, too bad. No matter how close you are, or how good of a shot you are, mistakes and miscues may happen, I'll never judge someone for making a poor shot, but I will if they don't spend the time to make it right. my .02 Houston -
