What Worked and What Didn't?
WHT_MTNMAN replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I used the Eberlstock just one pack to pack out Coues buck and all gear, tripod and 15x's etc... and had room left over. Not that I could have picked it up anyway. I was very pleased. I had the chance to try out the Montec G5's and loved them. They really did a number on the rocks behind a Coues buck. Actually one in August and then again in Jan. If I could hit the broadside of a barn when I get excited I might have better news, anyway I guess I get another day or two before the end of season. I also bought a knife from Arizona Guide Bark River knife and tool and caped and quartered a mule deer of my brothers and my Coues buck and a few odds and ends and would recommend them, as long as it comes back okay from getting sharpened. -
I bet he is pretty close to where he ran out of blood, but I don't know. That sure sucks, I hope you get to find him.

That is awesome, congrats on the nice bucks.

I was wondering how many times most of you shoot at a Coues every year? This year I've stalked a bunch of bucks and pulled my bow back half a dozen times but have only let the arrow fly twice. Once in August at the buck I ended up harvesting in November and once a couple of days ago. Both times I've made stupid mistakes due to the excitement of harvesting my first Coues with a bow. Last week I ranged a buck at 38 yards and put my 30 yard pin on him So lets hear it, how many times do you shoot at a deer each year, or how many times did you shoot before you got your first Coues?

Well, sure glad to see I'm not the only one missing I like the attitude you can't hit anything if you don't shoot. One of these days. Maybe this week.

I don't have time or money to apply this year but I'm trying to scrape enough for bonus points

Great buck, very nice mass on the bottom pic. Awesome.

Jim- I agree completely. I had a 100+ inch buck bed about 3-4 hundred yards away in some thick brush and a small 2 point a hundred yards away and I didn't even go over to where the big buck was, I knew I had to shoot a small buck before I could even try again at a big buck. I'm also thinking I need to go shoot another mulie since it has been awhile since I drew blood with my bow.

Another coueswhitetail sticker siting.

I saw one this past week in 33 on the Mt Lemmon/Oracle road, was on the tailgate of a truck, didn't get to see what color or make. i was in my little toyota tercel with the sticker on the back window. -
Well thanks all, maybe I'm not hopeless. I've shot elk and one mule deer with my bow, javelina, bunch of rabbits, quail etc... so I'm not quite a newbie but I can't seem to stay calm on a coues. Maybe after my first one I'll calm down a little bit.

stealth/stalker both sound good to me. Those are great bucks, I'm still working on my first arrowed coues. Awesome

Big Mulie taken with a bow
WHT_MTNMAN replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
That sucker is a monster!! SWEET It almost made me want to chase carp instead of Coues the next few weeks. almost Congrats to the hunter. -
bowsniper- I saw bucks pushing does between 4000-5500 I didn't look much lower or higher though. A friend was glassing some steep peaks at elevations over 5500.

I don't know much about moon phase, and it is quite hot, but I have been down in 33, 4 days spread out over the last week and a half and every day bucks were chasing does. I saw 4 bucks chasing the same group of does yesterday. I talked with a friend that guides/lives there and his client stalked a couple of big bucks yesterday that were pushing does around.

Congrats on the nice first Coues buck, too bad your wife didn't make it with you, but at least she's feeling better.

Rich- First off cool story, and great can't wait to see pictures. As have been said many, many times, score doesn't have the final say in how many memories you'll keep. Glad to hear about your dad, hope he continues to get better.

Awesome buck I was in 33 yesterday and saw a bunch of does and a mid 80's buck on the trail of one of the does, he spent all morning with her and bedded down close to her. The rut is starting to pick up even though it was in the high 70's yesterday.
