    The best unit

I like 36b 34a and 33, 34a If my memory serves me correct has the world record coues Pope and Young (Sergio Orozco 2001). I have chased some toads in 34a but yet too harvest anything, have harvested some nice bucks out of 36b and unit 33. Particularly 33,just my 2 cents worth.

    Coues Whitetail .Com Record book

Yeah, this sounds like a great idea Amanda, separating the summer hunts from the winter hunts and the different states. I have a few friends who would be interested in this. Please keep me posted!!! Arizonabowhunter

    Grunt call for Eastern Whitetails

Couesaddict and M-77, thanks for your response, I will keep that advice in mind and see if I can use both those tactics when the time is right. I have a Wayne Carlton grunt tube and have had succes with this in the past. Called in a coues buck in 1999 he traveled over 100 yards before I havested him at 35 yards, head on shot, just at the base of the neck is where the arrow entered. I know this shot for eastern whitetail will be unethical because of the size difference, I will pick more ethical shots for these big bruisers. Just was curious if this call will work on eastern whitetails, you guys back east give me some pointers. Thanks for any info. Arizonabowhunter

    Almost that time again

Ernesto, I have a hunt in Pikes County, Illinois in mid November (archery) and I will be able to harvest 2 deer (whitetail, during peak of rut). 1 buck and 1 doe, the only thing is I have to remain in a treestand for 8-10 hours. That will be an adjustment for me I am use to sitting on my booty and glassing off of my tripod with Fujinon's 15x60's. My guide was telling me that the average shots are 15 to 30 yards but at steep and straight angles. Have been practicing at all different angles. I will be with my brother and 2 friends one who is Dean Lippert. I am looking forward to this and the day can not come soon enough. Hope everything goes well and I will try and post some pics. Best of luck to all of you guys. Arizonabowhunter

Terrorists Cross into US Via AZ Border

AZCOUESN, The hunter that you are referring too was shot in his camp over in unit 34A. Over on the west side entrance to Box Canyon by Helvetia. I have talked to some friends that I work with that apparently knew him and the murder is still a mystery as of today. Unless someone else has an update to fill me in, just be careful when you are out there. I hunt this unit alot in December and January alot of times I am by myself. I work at the UofA and the whole campus shuts down from Dec. 23rd to Jan 3rd and find a hard time finding a hunting partner to hunt with during this time. Like to go during the week but majority ot time do not spend the night, have seen some nice deer though. I am starting to think twice about this and may have to look elsewhere. Good luck to you and your wife... Arizonabowhunter

    I NEED SOME HELP

25-06 Let me know what you see, but where we had luck was right south of Youtcy Spring and just a little to the east, my boy took 3 shots at a 3x3 couple of years ago. Try just southwest of Piety Hill glassed up some deer there by Bull Spring. Good Luck keep me informed. Bill

    I NEED SOME HELP

Italian trap is a good area, and the area around Piety Hill and Youtcy Canyon also holds some deer. 2 years ago I hunted this area and only found small bucks but then again it was 2 years ago. A good friend of mine was camped near Youtcy canyon during the 2002 deer season just south of it and harvested a 105" buck. You have to put in hours of scouting in order to harvest a nice buck....

25-06, where have you been hunting and scouting??? This unit is a pretty good unit for whitetail!

    I NEED SOME HELP

25-06, try hunting off of Sutherland trail or Sutherland ridge just east of Oro Valley. The terrain is very rough and to get back in the area where the bruisers are you will need a quad, or one bad $*%$# 4x4. During the archery hunt I saw 2 nice bucks in this area 100" plus.

    6A bull elk tag

Try Coulter Ridge and the surrounding area. You may have to get permission from the rancher to go on his property. I think the ranch is Collet Ranch cant quite remember. Good luck.

    Kaibab Archery Deer

Update on my brother's hunt. He saw a lot of small bucks and had an opportunity to shoot a 4x3 at 15 yards. When he shot apparently his arrow skimmed a branch and that was all she wrote, the arrow flew high and over the top of the buck. He was hunting out of a treestand. His friend had a Bison bull come up to him and and rake on the tree he was under for hours. He took some good pics hopefully I will be able to get some and post them on this website. Overall he said it was a great hunt!!!!!! My brother is yet to get a deer and I was hoping this would be his year. Oh well maybe next year.

Deduction for velvet on a coues???

Manamal, yes I am, but my time is very limited. I coach 2 baseball teams that my older son plays on and it eats up my time. I have a younger one who also plays and I have to find time for him,(its only fair). My older one and my nephew were with me when I harvested the deer, they were both 11 and 12 yrs old at the time. It is etched in my memory forever. I have been out maybe 3 times in search of the coues deer but that is it . Hopefully I will get out on Sunday for a while. Good luck to you. Arizona griz thanx for the info.
  15. I have a question for you all, how much is deducted for a deer in velvet that is harvested during the August ,September hunts?

Deduction for velvet on a coues???

Thanks you guys for the response. Arizonagriz, I harvested one in 2000 that rough scored around 93 inches in full velvet. A good friend of mine rough scored it but he said that there would be a 5% deduction if the velvet was left on. Where can I get a verification on this matter???
