Take away the salt and bait and let those hunt deer with a bow that want to hunt. It's the only hunt left that isn't limited in this states ungodly rediculious draw system. Oh ya, leave those silly spy cameras at home also. Next you'll all be flying drones with infrared cameras and sensors. And I don't even hunt with a bow. But, LEAVE THE ARCHERY DEER SEASON OUT OF THE DRAW!!!!!!!!!!

If you had one thing you could change about hunting in Arizona, what would it be? Example: Changing the commissioner position to one that the people of the state could vote for vs. being appointed by the govener. A short explaination of why you would like to see your change would be nice.

Thanks Outdoor Writer, that was outstanding reading. Your additions to our sometimes bazaar posts have a way of bringing us back into the real world. The easy fixes that we come up with don't take a look at the big picture. Many times I'll read a post and then start watching for your reply to it. Thanks again.

Donnie, great points. I was going to start out by stating that I would like to see all hunting stopped during the rut. If someone kept shooting at your butt while you were trying to breed, the human population would also be on the decline. I thought that would just start another one of those "WE HUNTERS HAVE TO STICK TOGETHER" arguements and another post would be shut down by those who don't want change for the good of all hunters.

Approximately what date do think the whitetail rut starts in the region you hunt. I have hunted region 5 and the rut always seems to begin around the 20th of December. That's when I see the buck becoming more active and putting their nose to the ground and following does. What's your region and date??

I must agree with Monstercoues 100%. I can't wait until bait or using salt in the state is illegal. I don't believe baiting is fair chase either. Keep the wind in your face, spot and stalk. Well said Monstercoues. -

Drew my Dec Whitetail Tag again. Third year in a row. -
Thanks Outdoor Writer, I appreciate that. I hand wrote it in his book, so there is a couple place where I chicken scratch things in or out depending on the mistake I made. But again, thanks for your comment.

Hey Outdoor Writer, I don't know who you write for, but I just finished writing a short note to my new grandson, Elliot (nice westerner name), in the front cover of a Dr. Suess book. Thought maybe you could tell me if it's any good or not. The book is title "Oh, the Places You'll Go!". It's his first book. Dear Elliot, I pondered many hours over writing to you in this book. Silly as it may seem in light of you being a mear six weeks old. Even more silly as I am writing to you an a Dr. Seuss book. Although timing is every thing in life and some day you may open this book, read what I have written, and take a part of it with you throughout your life. "Oh, the Places You'll Go!", the things you'll see, people you'll meet, maybe under a tree. You may go with me, or Mom and Dad, or Grandma for gods sake in a coffee shop too. Where ever you go, and with whom it may be, be honest and true with yourself and you'll succeed. Success is to you not what it's to me but honesty and truth is surely the key. The key opens doors to inside and out and changes your views to north and to south. The east and west brings light and dark and alters your views of the sun and stars. Inside at dark or outside at light or vise versus of these to see what you'll see. The key to the key is you'll be what you'll be and success will be yours as you succeed you'll see. Oh the Places You'll go as you turn all those keys, the success you'll have and the views that you'll see. Your mother and father, your grandma and me, we'll all be smiling as we watch you succeed.

Bushnell Customer Service states that the ER6 error code means it needs to be re-programed. Check their website for directions on where to send it.

TJ, no man, I don't f$@^ with other hunters. If I'm going back in a road and see another vehicle parked I just go back in farther. I do think that fourpoints has every right to go a mile or so back in on the trail and hunt in what ever manner he things is ethical to him, even if it is another salt block. heck, I might even give it a go. Does Boone and Crockett recognize that as fair chase???? By the way, I did call G&F and got two completely different answers this morning. It's good that Outdoor Writer has an inside line to MR. Wakling or we may have never solved this. Someday call G&F and ask your question to the first person that answers the phone, wait about a half hour call back and ask for customer service, ask again the same question, see what happens.

You are training them to come to a specific location with the intent of making a harvest. Members to this site have posted many times of the ethics of hunting and fair chase. Just doesn't seem right to set over a bait or a water hole. Those are every day needs necessary to their survival. Just my view. Thanks for getting all up in arms. I need to take more Mondays off from work. Hope you have a successful hunt.

So GH, do you think it's ethical to attract deer to a specific location using bait (salt lick)? Don't you already enjoy many advantages over the game you hunt, (example: scopes, rangefinders, high powered rifles, scent blocking clothes, silent compound bows, topo maps, arial photos, trailcams, etc.)
-
GH, where did you go. I was waiting for you to show me where you quoted me from??????
-
Those were the answers I received when I call G&F.
-
GH, where did you ever get that from. At no time did I call you any of those things.
-
And wild butt quesses is what gets posted about 99 percent of the time. How often do you see references to Arizona Revised Statutes, State Laws or G&F rules. If you call G&F more that once you even get two different answers from them.

It's really easy to get guys going in this forum and it also brings excellent information to the forum. It would be just another hunting forum if guys didn't get up tight about hunting coues in arizona.

Hey, has anyone here used Farwest Pumping Company out of Tucson. I was thinking about hiring them to drill me a well I can use to create a waterhole, set up my own Texas Deer Feeder next to my own tree stand and have the balls to think no other hunter should use it ever.

TJ, the treestand issue is not as cut and dry as I had thought. I have been researching for a rule or law and only find statements that game & fish has put into their publications. So I did what any ethical hunter would do, I called game & fish. Twice to see if their answers varied, and they do vary. So, more research must be done. The number one thing that the game and fish could hang a person on is DID YOU DAMAGE THE TREE IN ANY WAY WITH YOUR TREESTAND!!!! If so, you can expect a fine, even if it's not your treestand your hunting in. (A.R.S 13-1601 through 1605) Speaking of hunting in another hunters treestand. On public land an unattended treestand is Public Domain. If the other hunter likes your stand, he may take it with him, it's no longer your stand. I would guess that's the same with trailcams??? Again, I also need to find the specific ruling on Public Domain. Also, concerning baiting (salt licks). It is illegal to bait bear in the state of Arizona. So, if your salt lick attracts bear it is illegal. How many times have we seen those fantastic trailcam photos of bear coming into a hunters salt lick???? So, I quess if we want Arizona to start looking like Texas, we can all start putting out the time controlled corn feeders as long as they don't attract bears. Just don't get upset when another hunter considers it Public Domain.

On your topic of SPORTSMANSHIP, it is ILLEGAL to place a salt lick on Public Land. The ethics of this topic went out the door with the first hunter placing the salt lick (period). End of that discussion. The other interesting topic of tree stands placed at water holes. It is also ILLEGAL to leave a tree stand unattended, over night or permantly attached to a tree on Public Land. If we all want to be ethical hunters then we should all follow the rules and laws established by the game & fish.

Just recieved a new Kodiak Outdoors Bow from my fantastic wife for Christmas. Haven't touched a bow for about 25 years, military obligations and family comitments, and my wife said it was time I got back into it. So, I've got the bow, 60 - 70 pounds, WHAT ABOUT THE ARROWS???????? Any pros and cons on the different shafts? Thanks, M77.

Hey Guys, I got such great responses to my arrow post, so I thought I'd solicite inputs on the best of the best releases. What do you all use? Thanks again, Al.

Hey Mattys281 and all members, the PSE x-weave arrows sound like a solid investment. What local clubs do you guys belong to? Where is the best place to purchase the PSE arrows? My problem is that I am starting all over again. I shot archery almost every night when I was younger. The club I belonged to was the Omro Bowhunters in Omro, Wisconsin. I did a lot of league and tournament shooting back then. I'm really looking forward to getting back into it, but right know all I have is my new bow. It's a Kodiak Outdoors Bow Logic 36, 60 - 70 lb pull with a drop away arrow rest. I've only shot two arrows out of it so far, just checking out the fit and feel at Sportsman's. I appreciate and respect the information I get from CouesWhitetail.com members. Thanks to all. Al
