    Found knife

I think that's my knife. Does it have a blade on one end and a handle on the other? I am sure that's the one. Thanks for finding it.
  2. Back in 2005 Dan Caputo asked this website forum for our input to changes he was thinking about implementing in unit 6a coues hunts. Many gave excellent input to Dan. The changes have been set for a few years. How do you feel about them now? Dan's request is attached below. Greetings, my name is Dan Caputo and I am the wildlife manager for unit 6A. I am seeking feedback on a possible hunt change in unit 6a. This site was recommended to me as a place to receive honest feedback. I am recommending that permits be transfered from the December hunt into an October hunt in Unit 6A. The new October hunt will be similar to those offered in S. Arizona. It will be four days long and offered on the first weekend of the mule deer season. The December hunt will not be changed, other then a reduced amount of permits. For example: last year there were 250 permits offered in December. With the proposed change, there maybe 150 permits offered in December and 150 offered in October. The management objectives will target the same overall harvest, but will reduce the pressure on the older aged class bucks that become vulnerable during the December mating season. We can offer an increase in total permits without taking more bucks because the success rate in October will be lower then December. These are a few biological and political reasons that I believe an October hunt should be introduced: 1) There will be a net increase in permits, which will provide more opportunity to sportsmen. This increase in permits will not negatively impact the population because the overall harvest objective will remain the same. Besides, if you are strictly a 6A coues deer hunter, then you will have two chances in the draw, rather then just one. 2) Many portions of Unit 6A are not accessible in December do to scheduled road closures and possible weather conditions. An October hunt will allow hunters to access areas such as Woods Canyon, Munds Canyon, Williard Springs, and the Oak Creek Rim. 3) The Buck:Doe ratio in Unit 6a has been around 19 Bucks to 100 does. These are pretty modest buck numbers to justify having a high permitted hunt that targets breeding class bucks during the rut. The majority of October hunters will harvest 1-2 year old bucks. This will lighten the pressure on the breeding class bucks during the rut without negatively changing the buck:doe ratio. 4) Unit 6A does not have a blanketed whitetail population, like what is experienced in S. AZ. The populations are scattered into pockets. As a result, during the December hunt, hunters are concentrated into those same pockets. I have received numerous complaints concerning hunter overcrowding issues on the December hunt. Spreading the permits over two hunts will reduce hunter density and provide a more quality hunt. 5) Many hunters have expressed frustration over deer movements during the rut. It seems like they find bucks in August, watch them through November and then loose them as the rut begins in December. An October hunt will provide for different hunt tactics based on deer behavior alone. Keep in mind that this is only a suggestion and has not been made into a decision yet. I wanted to ensure that you all had an opportunity to comment on the matter before it becomes proposed. Even if it is proposed, it can still be rejected by our Game Branch or The Commission. You can also direct comments to me at dcaputo@azgfd.com On a personal note, I am a savvy coues deer hunter that would only entertain ideas that would improve the quality of the hunt. I personally am willing to sacrifice a few draw percentages in December in order to have the opportunity to hunt in October. Thanks Dan Caputo

azpackhorse, don't say that too loud. It's an election year and Obama is hungry for as many votes as he can get. He may just do that. LOL.

    Results

Willyhunts2, don't give these money hunger G&Fs any ideas. They'll try anything for a dime. We already pay their salaries, buy the land, pay to stock the lakes, have to purchase a license just to get turned down for a tag, build shooting ranges, volunteer in the outdoors. OK, what's another $20.00 to find out in advance.
  8. Had three on at once. We only landed this one. Had a great day on the water and plenty of fresh fish for dinner. Sashimi on the dock. Can't beat it.

    Yellowfin Tuna Fishing - Hawaii

Captain said about 120 - 125 for the weight. We didn't put it on a scale. Too much of a hurry to clean it and have sashimi on the dock. The week prior to this trip I fished in the AHI FEVER Tourney on the west coast of Oahu. The winning Ahi was 255 pounds. One boat on Sunday had 4 Ahi between 100 and 170 pounds. Awesome time to fish off the coast of Oahu mid-june through the summer. Ahi, Ono and Mahi all being caught. Fish the 4 days following a New Moon.

    Yellowfin Tuna Fishing - Hawaii

Charter boats in Hawaii due own the fish. There is a fish market in Honolulu that they take the fish to sell at auction. The fish don't always sell. Then the owner must go back to the auction and retrieve the fish. The charter boat I go out on the owner allows the fishermen to keep the catch and split the catch among them. Sometimes he gets tourist that don't want the fish and then he takes them to the auction. I don't believe any fish go to Japan, they have plenty of commercial fishing fleets over fishing the oceans.
  13. Varmint Al's website has some MP3 calls you can down load. A couple are 20 minutes long with a verity of sounds on the 20 minute down load.
  14. I found out that if you're check has already been cashed it's because you made a mistake on your application and G&F is taking their money out before rejecting you application. Better Luck next year.
  15. AG&F has posted it on the hunting part of the website. Check It Out, Alan.
  16. I was out in area 36A scouting last weekend and met a couple hunters from the Phoenix area who were also scouting. Just wondering how the situation played out with the illegals breaking into your truck. PM me and I'll be glad to help you with 36A scouting info. I'm going out again in the morning and several more times between now and opening day. Sorry about the bad time last weekend.

    Dilemma

Just go up there after work today, set up a ground blind, hang a bunch of signs out saying it's your spot, please stay out. That's what many other HUNTERS (i use that term loosely) would do. Don't even give it a second thought. If your there first, they will have to go to plan B or C. On public land it should always be the first hunter there, regardless of constructing a road to that spot, setting up tree stands or ground blinds. Go hunt that spot if you get there first.

    36A Scouting Trip

The hunter had a white pickup with an ATV in the back. They were grilling out some nice looking steaks and getting ready to do some pre-season scouting. They asked about illegals and problems and they even planned to leave some water out in plain view. Very considerate guys but apparently that wasn't good enough for the illegals. We had just stopped to do some bird hunting, when one of the hunters passed us on the road with a border patrol vehicle following. As he passed he told us "they broke into our truck". About an hour later the border patrol vehicle went back out. It looked like he had people in the back. I don't hear of that happening often, but it does happen.
  19. Anyone else get their 2nd choice and find out there are left over tags for their 1st choice???????
  20. A co-worker got drawn for his 2nd choice with 61 tags left over for his first choice. Seems like there should be some way to fill 1st choice applications with 1st choice tags if left over tags are available. That means some 3rd, 4th and even 5th choice applicants got a tag for that unit ahead of 1st choice applicants. Elkaholic is correct. If you get drawn in AZ you lose your bonus points. In other states, Colorado, if you don't get drawn with your 1st choice you don't lose your bonus points. You even get an additional point for this year. I don't understand why this system can't be simplified. It's like filing your taxes at the end of the year. You have to hire an accountant just to apply for a tag!!!!!!!! Rule 1 applies if rule 2 fails unless rule 3 takes presidence over rule 1 with the exception of rule 4 being nulified. There has to be a better system.
  21. For those of you who did not draw, there are a ton of left over tags in some great units. Check them out.
  22. Set a lawn chair on the back porch of one of the houses in the housing area nearest Huachuca Canyon. Pop open a beer, and wait until just before dusk. Alan
  23. My check was cashed on 29 June 2009. Any others finding the same?
  24. Check out Craig's List Posting # 1184424067. It's a Tucson listing in Collectibles, Taxidermy mounted animals. Has a picture of what is supposedly at one time the #1 whitetail taken in Kansas for sale. $1000.00. Nice looking mount. Alan
  25. Who else would like to see this made mandatory? If you don't report your success or failure to kill your name gets pulled from the following years draw. All game and fish would have to do is add it to the website in the same area we check our results. Log in by your hunter number and birthday, enter your tag hunt number and tag number, and report your success. This would make for a lot better estimating on the part of game and fish. Might even increase tag numbers. Alan
