I feel the Arizona Game and Fish website on where to hunt for unit 7E is right on. I have mountain biked through most of the San Francisco Peaks meadows and always bumped into many elk herds. I love hunting from a mountain bike. You can cover a lot of ground, quickly and quietly. You'll do great. Just enjoy your hunt.

beautiful day to be in the woods
m77 replied to arizonaelitefreak's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
You and me both. We always have beautiful days in Hawaii, but I can't wait to get outside in Arizona again. Soon. -
Check Craigslist in that area. You might be able to get them back.

I love the way you DO NOT look like you walked out of a Cabela's Catalog and you still have a 375 bull laying in front of you. BDU pants, mixed matched tops and even a shiny belt buckle. Nice. Great hunt.

I love carrying a camera in the outdoors almost more than carrying a weapon. Those are great videos and photos. Thanks for sharing.

Flight Infrared Sensor Hunt Net (FISHNET) Why put all those miles on those expensive Kentrek Hardscrabble hunting boots? Let FISHNET do the scouting for you. This mildly expensive infrared drone with gps grid searching capabilities can cover a large area in a relatively short amount of time. FISHNET has the capability to photograph heat signatures, capture gps coordinates, and relay the information directly to your laptop located in your outrageously expensive heated/air conditioned SUV. Imagine this!!!! It’s 3am opening morning and you just sent FISHNET out on it’s first flight of the morning. Within 15 minutes your laptop signals you that FISHNET has sent a photo of approximately 30 heat signatures and the gps coordinates. You quickly overlay the FISHNET photo over a satellite photo of the area and discover the heat signatures are close to your favorite stock tank. Using your cellphone you reprogram FISHNET to make another pass over the heat signatures. After observing the second photo received from FISHNET you are amazed to find out the heat signatures are moving in your direction at approximately 15 feet per minute. After a few mathematical calculation you realize the herd will approach your current location in about 3 hours and 15 minutes. Perfect!!! You sit back, enjoy your hot coffee and at 6:45 am shot a nice bull elk 50 yards off Forest Service Road 294. WOW!!! What a great hunt!!! Can’t wait to get those photos posted to COUESWHITETAIL.COM.

Not my DECODER RING!!! I would rather give up my TRAILCAM LASER GUIDED SURE KILL DEVICE (TLGSKD). Besides, the instant notification and response system is not working on my TLGSKD.

Nice Job Mulie Hunter. Now that's some good eating elk. Tastes completely different than one of those old rutting up bulls that piss all over themselves.

One of the things I have always loved the about hunting is they way most hunters are so great about looking out for each other and the brotherhood that there seems to be in the field. However m77, the various posts of yours I have read really make me question the type of hunter and "sportsman" you are. Hope to never meet up with you in the field... You "Hunters" that sit on here and critique everyone else's posts are getting a little rediculous. First of all the spark plug, plug, was meant to be just that, an "LOL". Got it. Oh, I did think about it, even thought about giving the guy four flats, but didn't. A closed road is a "closed road", handicapped or not. As four your trail cams, I don't own one. They are just another technological device that give the "Hunters" and unfair advantage over the game. I wouldn't steal one nor would I damage one. As for credibility, spent almost 28 years with a TS clearance, using high tech to unfairly hunt the other side. And no, you probably wouldn't want to meet me out in the field. For whatever reason you added that. Do you have any other complaints?

Thanks Outdoor Writer, you are always right on with your posts. The number one guy I always look for on this site.

What penalties does G&F impose on individuals if caught driving on closed roads? From what I understand all the closed roads are not properly marked as such. A couple years ago I was hiking three miles back into a wilderness area in Colorado and sure enough there was a quad parked. Guy drove right past the closed road/wilderness area sign. I think I still have his spark plug. LOL.

heck, I watched it a 1000 times. Excellent video.

Solution to Water Hole Problems/Confrontations
m77 replied to m77's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
The thing I like about post like this is it tells everyone here what kind of HUNTERS everyone are. I grew up in Wisconsin hunting whitetail in a cedar swamp and pheasants in the fields. Then graduated to baiting bear in northern wisconsin and musky fishing in between baiting. Hiked into the high country of Colorado elk hunting numerous times with 50 plus pound frame packs and made several hikes in and out with meat, boned, no hide. Caught a lot of trout in Colorado and always enjoy the peace of the back country. I have used alternate means of getting into the back country. It's called a mountain bike. Never owned an ATV, where I couldn't drive a 2 wheel drive truck I walked. Never setup a trail cam, never left a tree stand overnight, never worried about how many inches were on the buck I was about to shoot. Once I find a buck by glassing, stalking, checking the wind, moving slow, stay in the shadows and get him in my crosshairs, the food is on the table, large rack or small. I hope you all find what you want out of your hunts this and every season. Thanks for posting. Alan -

Solution to Water Hole Problems/Confrontations
m77 replied to m77's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Ya, just joking. The website has been kind of boring lately so I thought I would try to get some excitement out of some of you. When my son and I hunt we always stack, glass, move, glass some more. If we know we are near a stock tank we try to stay far enough away as to not disturb anyone hunting it. We always enjoy putting the wind into our face, moving extremely slow, glassing and stacking. Those stinky, muddy, mosquito infested stock tanks suck. I do believe they should be left alone and not sat on, so the wildlife can use them undisturbed. Thanks for adding your two cents worth. -
Solution to Water Hole Problems/Confrontations
m77 replied to m77's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Does first come first serve include hanging a tree stand or putting up a ground blind on a stock tank days or weeks before the season opener and then expect others that get there first to not hunt there? Some even put notes to other hunters on those tree stands or ground blinds saying they will be hunting there. Maybe AZGFD should start a reservation system (for a small AZGFD fee of course) for privileges to hunt stock tanks during a set period of time. -
New pair of boots wanted for low desert hot hunting
m77 replied to stalkincoues's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Hey Ernesto, did just that. The left one clicked on one pair, the right one on the other pair. Could have put together a good pair just lost confidence in them at that point. I have an old pair of Danners I have worn for a number of years. Thought it was time to retire them but I may be getting at least one more season out of them. -
New pair of boots wanted for low desert hot hunting
m77 replied to stalkincoues's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I tried on a pair of Danner Pronghorn GTX III, Uninsulated, Gortex boots today. Sports Authority, $189.99. As I was walking around the department the boots were making a clicking sound. I was from the area of the boot just where it bends from the foot up the leg. All I kept thing about was making a stalk and finding no buck where he was bedded. Then taking another step and hearing that dang clicking. Left the store without them. -
I would like all hunters to respect each other. To put up a tree stand and pin a note on it telling other hunters to stay away is selfish at best. Carry them in in the morning and carry them out in the evening. If another hunter gets in there first and puts up his tree stand, so be it. Then hunt your backup spot.

Nice Amanda, just strolling around on the home page is exciting. Took awhile to figure out a couple things but I agree with Josh. It's SWEET!!!!! My wife doesn't like it. I've been on it way too long tonight.

I like the search engine of this website forum. Use it to your advantage. You will find out a lot more about coues in area 6a using the search engine than you will asking the question. Use the " button before and after the word you choose to search for. Example: "6a" or "clear creek" or "area 6a". Good Luck, this forum is full of information and don't forget to study the photos you find.

Nice buck. That's not a salt block in the photo is it?????

I have spent a fair amount of years scouting and hunting unit 6a. I found sheds that looked like Coues in areas typically known for Mule Deer and vice verses. We all know that roam each others territory. I have heard talk about Mule Deer and Coues cross breeding in this unit. Anyone have any evidence of that actually occuring?

Thanks. Good info guys and a super cool video. I am going to try to find that NAU study. Thanks again. So if you shot a hybrid during hunting season, does it count for a mule deer or a coues?
