Awesome triggers. Mind if I ask what you swapped it with?

What would be the concerns with a super panga? Just the small size? Wife and I are thinking about heading down in August and I'm starting to read what I can.

Need a new processor...Denmark won't take wild game
metau replied to Basser15's topic in The Campfire
Von Hanson's makes an awesome jalepeno cheddar smoked sausage. If you are looking for cheap processing, Maricopa skills center is the place to get it done. -
Love my 660's. Been looking for deals on some 600's as well.

Two completely different hunts. Both doable. Neither will be easy. If you do the archery hunt, don't expect much bugling. I'd suggest being there in August when the season opens, before the hordes hit the mountains chasing elk.

And don't forget your fly rod or ultra light spinning rig.

I'll see you tomorrow. Will confirm time later this evening.

OTC Bull tags for 2nd/3rd rifle season. Lots of elk. Crawling with hunters. Still better than not hunting. Do it.

Would like some load development done for me
metau replied to codyhuntsaz's topic in Long Range Shooting
I'd suggest having someone teach you how to reload. Cause you're going want to do it. You can have them walk you through the steps, help you figure out what components to buy and then use their press(maybe dies too) with them there teaching you how it is done. I've met a few guys over the years that used to reload for others, but all of them have stopped doing it due to liability issues. -
Habitat for humanity will allow those as young as 15 to volunteer, I believe. 16 on job sites, but no power tools.

Larry's video on youtube is the one I always watch when I do mine. Make sure everything is properly degreased and dried, use plenty of release agent, and I highly suggest using good modeling clay. Cleaning it out can be a pain, but it's better than the alternative.

Also, details on the build are mandatory, as are pics of the build as you progress.... :D

portable camp fire -Legal for fire restictions ** SOLD**
metau replied to elkaholic's topic in Classified Ads
There was one of these at the 6A junior turkey camp last week. Kept folks warm. -
Both are short actions, so it should work. Barrel channel maybe?

Exactly. Gotta be light, mobile and fast. I don't use my main pack when chasing bugles. Lumbar pack with blacked out suspenders to keep it from bouncing when running. Carry my water in a small bladder, keeps the air out so it stays quiet.

Quit now before the addiction starts. Otherwise, read as much as you can on lessons learned. Check out bowsite. Go to the DCA elk siminar, Corky knows his chit. Find water. Don't worry about finding bulls early on. Find the cows and the bulls will find them. Once you've cow called, don't worry about being super quiet. You've just told them you're an elk and elk are noisy creatures. Whatever you do, don't stink. Elk hear you, they'll run for a minute. See you, run for a mile. But if they smell you, they'll be gone quicker than you'd ever imagine, and you will not be able to catch up to them. Speaking of catching up to them, if the terrain allows for it, I like to wear sneakers or trail shoes when chasing elk. I always find myself running to get back in front of them and try to set up for the shot. Know where they bed but stay out of them. Bust them from their beds and they are gone. Know how to use a diaphragm call and make sure you have one in your mouth when you draw back. Hit them with a few mews once your arrow smacks them. Stay away from the hoocie mama, and I'd bugle very, very sparingly.

Makes two of us. Never been there. Always wanted to go. I got a couple of buddies that have been that said they wanted to go this year if I didn't draw, but after talking to two of them this afternoon, looks like I might have a solo trip on my hands. The archery season starts too early in CO this year for my liking, but may do that instead. I know a few spots to go, but not sure if I want to be there in August.

Thanks.

So what you're saying is that I now have an excuse to spend more time in the field and less time at work? Aw-shucks....

So after helping with the junior turkey camp in 6A this past weekend, my interest in pursuing a turkey with a bow is once again in my head. I'm just curious how many on here have actually been successful at the OTC turkey archery?
-
Rather be lucky than good.... Nice looking bird. Take it he waited until he went behind a tree or turned his fan before drawing?

Check some of the local papers in CO. There are several small colleges and there is usually a few ads up for students that will help pack out an animal in exchange for meat. Elk are dang near everywhere in CO. Whichever unit you choose, you just need to find the steepest, darkest, nastiest northern facing slope with dark timber and that is where the elk will be. There, and on private property. I'll be headed either there or Montana myself. Best of luck.

Bump for a great little tent. Plenty of room inside the tent to sit up and a large footprint under the vestibule for boots and your pack. Used mine at Philmont several years ago and it fit myself and another scout leader just fine for two weeks. Using solo there is plenty of room to store your gear inside and have a cook area in the vestibule footprint.

If you can't find any, I'd recommend checking out Quentin defense down in Gilbert. If they have any in stock, you can get a blem billet lower for $99. It's what I built my 3 gun rifle off of and am in the process of building a 24" precision rifle on my 2nd one.
