First load. Should I throw this out?

i usually load .030 off the lands. how far off are you? what scope? -
I have hunted down there many times. the one time by myself i did take my 10 mm. Duck- with those choices you will get a tag. Oct weather can vary. i always carry my own water. not much running water. coues occupy very very rugged country. enjoy. ron

duck- thanks for your service. I hunt with a 6.5-284 Remington 700 when I hunt coues. I carry a laser range finder . a lot of the shots I get when hunting coues are longer. I do not carry a handgun. my rifle works good for close shots as well as the longer ones, and I am older and do not care for the extra weight.

if you are able to hunt in late december, i would put in for one of those hunts first choice.

Recommendations for .308 rounds?
roninflag replied to mattys281's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
you do not say what you are shooting at. targets - there are a LOT of 168 and 175 match bullets loaded in factory ammo from many manufacturers. fed gold medal match is the standard. for hunting ammo a 150 or 168 cbt from Winchester. -
deerhunter- that sounds like an accurate and deadly load. we load i4350 to around 3100 with a 168 in the remington sendero
-
Deerhunter- i have competed with my 300 mags out to 1000 yards. i would load a 150 berger or cbt; or a 168 beger or cbt. the lighter bullets have less kick, are flatter and less wind drift out to 500-600 yards. after that the longer heavier ones like the 175,185 and 210 do help. i would use what ever shoots the best group at 200 and 400. ( sorry if you di not ask this question just helping.) ron

Deerhunter31- i can find more deer faster with my 10-42 binos. they are lighter than the 15's. i can find coues with the 15's i would not see with the 10s coues ( and coyotes) are small target, challenging target. coues are generally shot at longer ranges. an accurate rifle helps. having a good, solid strategy for putting for the draw is also key. taking the hunter safety course with give you another pt , increasing your odds for a tag. pm to be sent.
-
deerhunter31- you can get drawn and hunt coues with a rifle every year. the draw odds and hunt success are available on line at azgfd ..... hunt az. I use my 10x42 binos a lot. most coues live in rugged country so getting in good shape is a good idea. have you shot a deer with your 300??

new to hunting? do you have a rifle? binos?

New to reload 270 advice updated question at bottom about how to test loads
roninflag replied to apache12's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I would load a 130 berger for coues. -
at the risk of being labeled an" under achiever"...... i could be quite satisfied with a buck 10 % or even 20% smaller the the 296# from the kofas.

if you have not shot a lion with it you should. that is what it is. beautiful. envious.
-
do up have a pic of your rifle?? killed any lions with it??
-
i would buy the winchester stuff at midway
-
i would use what ever shoots the 1/4" groups. several of us use 35.5 benchmark and 50 ballistic tip. in 500 yard matches with our rem 700s. the bc on 22 cal bullets that you can shoot are not much greater. some we have shot are the 53 horn , 60 vamx, 60 ballistic tip..

.300 weatherby round recommendations.
roninflag replied to couesntime's topic in Long Range Shooting
couesn - if you go to ammoseek you can find a lot of factory ammo available. most handload because it gives them control to adjust. i have loaded for the 300wby ( also 300rum, saum, wsm, wm) . some say it is cheaper. you have the power shooting a 300 wby it is easily good to 600 with a good rifle. in order to find the precision you are going to have to shoot. the 180 federal bonded tipped, and a 180 accubond are two i would start with . -

couesntime- no way to tell what will shoot best in your rifle. buy three or 4 or 5 boxes of ammo try them. i would start with the federal 180 grain trophy bonded tip. and a few others. that scope will help determine which shoots best( at least it would help me ). -
