for factory ammo I would start with 140 berger by hsm if they offer it.

Remington is making senderos in .264 and 25-06 again. just not .257 wby.

my brother has an 8.5 twist krieger, it shoots the 140's awesome. the original one he had had a 9 twist , the 130's shot good. the addition speed makes up for the bc.

If you already have the bottom metal. buying an adl from sportsmans would be the cheapest and easiest I believe.

i have harvested 21 deer and over 250 coyotes with sako .243s. they are awesome.

6.5-284 is a great round if you handload.

Initially that was the direction I was leaning. That or a savage lrh. My only issue with a Remington long range is the weight and recoil. I'd like it in 300 win mag. To cut weight I'd want to get the barrel and maybe even the bolt fluted. To combat recoil I'd want to get a muzzle brake installed. I figure I'd have to put in +/- $500. Now I'm at $1200ish. That's why I was wondering if I should start with the rifle in question and down the road replace the barrel and stock? I'm as green as can be at long range shooting/hunting so all opinions are welcome! CODY- you do not say if you reload. for coues a 25-06 or a 7mm rem ( with 140 loaded to 3100fps) plenty no need for a brake. for long range weight is an advantage. if weight is that much of a consideration, save and get a sendero.( guns last a long time) i read some where remington is going to make it in . 264 for 2016 too

entry level long range rifle. Remington 700 long range. 25-06 or 7mm mag. 699 or less.

I like a little more power for coues they are small challenging targets, so the 5-22 scope. . the cartridges are similar. I would use a 140 berger or a 120 ballistic tip.

for sure i would put a 2.5-8 leup on it. ( at least a 2-7 leup) they are light and clear. 3-9 compact too and shoot it.

the new powders Imr 7977, and Re26 look good in other cartridges. i would like to try them, but there is no data yet for .257 .

i only have 16 rounds through my .257. i have not chronod yet. are you using fed 215 primers? Imr 7828 shows the highest velocity in the nosler manual. I asked a guy on 24hourcampfire about loading .257, he has three. He said that according to Weatherby they use Re-22/Mrp in their factory ammo.
