Ar case swipe help
AzDiamondHeat replied to bowhunter-tw's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
It sounds like more of a timing issue or a pin issue. Back in the day there was info floating around about sharp edges on pins causing swipe marks on very tame loads. Check your pin. Maybe try a new pin or bcg to see if it changes. Timing can also cause swipes. You say it is timed but timing changes with each load. -
any 1x whatever or 2x whatever OR red dot/halo sight with flip over magnifier depends on where you hunt. 95% of my preds are under 100 yds with most within 50. shotgun range

Also, manfrotto is NOT arca swiss. You can get adapter plates to attach to the manfrotto plates, but again, that is one more thing between your rifle and the mount. If you commit to arca swiss I highly recommend you get a head that is ARCA SWISS.
-
I switched everything over to arca swiss about 2 years ago and am very happy I did. Quick switch from binos to spotter to camera or rifle. If your tripod is study and your head doesn't flex your rifle will be solid. All my stuff has an arca swiss plate already on it. They come in all kinds of sizes so very adaptable. VERY important to have a solid head. I can't stress that enough. I thing that more than anything was the biggest upgrade for me. Easier and quicker to pop it in the arca swiss than it is to lock it into the saddle, plus one less thing to have to carry(and those pigsaddles are not lightweight). I still use shooting sticks on the backend though for a rock solid setup. The pigsaddles are nice and I had very few complaints, but one fewer element between the rifle and the tripod is more solid. The downside, is micro adjustments are a little more difficult once "locked in". The inherent looseness of the pigsaddle gives a little more room for adjustment. That's good or bad depending on your point of view.

I like a bigger fluid head. The video heads work great. Ball heads are fine but didn't seem to be as easy to fine tune. smaller lighter heads will introduce too much wiggle and some cannot support the weight without flexing. I also HIGHLY recommend sticking with a single mounting system ie manfrotto or arca swiss for all your stuff. Makes everything SO much easier(everybody probably already does this). If you are already with the Manfrotto system I have a sweet video head you are welcome to try . They area little bigger and heavier but the stability advantage is well worth the extra weight.

Verizon wireless home internet??? Tired of Cox.
AzDiamondHeat replied to My Rights As An American's topic in The Campfire
I wanted to switch but can't. From what I have been told by my IT guy the Verizon system does not play well with some home automation systems. Our eero mesh will not work nor will our camera system. Verizon requires you to use their stuff. I am stuck with cox for now. -
I like the pig saddle or whatever variation you have. I also am a fan of a picatinny rail mounted directly if you have that option. It is even more stable. Bipod on the rear makes it rock solid. One thing we did for my niece as she graduated to the big gun was "blind cartridge" practice. We would have her hold on target and dry fire multiple times to ensure that she had trigger control and wasn't flinching or jerking. Then, we would put an empty case in the rifle and have her go through the process several times. during that we would substitute the empty case for a live round, all the while with her holding on target. She never knew if it was live or a dry fire. She remained rock solid and has never developed a flinching habit. Might not work for all but it worked great for her. She is 2 for 2 with shots on elk at over 490 yds and 530 yds.

whos going to be there? niece has a tag amd we are headed to the cabin on Thursday.

She did it again. After very little activity we finally found a shootable cow on day 3. Was on a NASTY road(swore before that I would NEVER drive that road again) I found a nice cow bedded at 490 across the canyon. We watched her for about an hour waiting for her to move to a better position as she was partially blocked. Finally WE moved and had a good opening. Just as we were resituating for the shot the elk chose to get up and start meandering. So began the clown car circus of scrambling to get everything set up. She held 1 moa for a little wind from right to left and let it fly. Cow took a few steps forward behind a tree and disappeared. We watched for awhile and she never came out but my brother said he saw some bushes shaking. So the niece and I got packed up and headed down. My brother has recent surgery and can't walk well so it was just the two of us. Perfect double lung shot. Pretty much DRT. That's her 2nd 500 yd DRT shot in 2 hunts. after a SEVEN HOUR marathon packout our day was done. And so were we. I couldn't even drive back to the cabin I was so tired. We are so proud of her for toughing it out. What an amazing accomplishment. and she never complained once. I am STILL complaining. I hate manzanita.... The ride home....
