also hit up the thrift stores and salvation army etc. Lots of good kids stuff can be found at those.

Bummer that he got busted up at such a young age but props to him for getting out and getting it done.

What are you guys using to mount your gps to your atv/utv?
-
Do you use the Ram mounting systems as well or just their holders?
-
Actually I ordered one before I started this thread. Just curious to see what others use.

Outstanding. And having the family there to boot. BEST DAY EVER. Congrats.
-
Even the elk is smiling! Kids hunting is the best!
-
Nice. I want my freezer to look like that.
-
kinda looks like he is flipping you off.
-
Outstanding.

I love that change in the weather when the snakes stay home and the fur gets thick......

I am sorry for the loss of your friend. Way too young. G & F just posted a reminder due to an elderly man dieing recently as well. Be careful guys.
-
Outstanding. Congrats to all of you. And props for giving him the privilege of packing out the trophy!

depends on the terrain and the wind. If you are calling wide open grasslands, sure, blast it. They will come from miles. If you are calling desert canyons, your sound is pretty contained so no sense in blowing out every animal in that canyon with too much volume. With more time in the field you will find what works for the areas you hunt.

...They taste better. so after a week of horrible weather and hiking all over creation NOT hearing any bugles, I was finally able to fill my tag. Not a TROPHY by most standards, but I think ANY archery elk is a trophy. Funny enough, the first comment I get about the picture is "man, you look tired". YA THINK? He was shot at 25 yds. It was an uphill shot and I got him mid chest, but didn't account for the angle. We tracked him for a quarter mile without a drop of blood. It was the craziest thing I ever saw. There wasn't even any blood coming out of his wound. Fortunately it was fairly virgin ground so his prints were pretty easy to follow. Only lost the track once in tall grass for about 10 minutes. After opening him up the broadhead had gone through one lung and into the bottom of the spine(due to angle). One lung was basically soup. It was crazy. Never found the broadhead so I am assuming it rolled around in his chest blenderising everything. Found all the other arrow parts though. Shot at 5:30 and to the processor by 9. bottom line: Success.

the bigger bull are. I hope so. In three years when I have another tag those guys will have some little 3x3 children that I can shoot.

I ended up with a big cat 350. It is BIG. Seems like it will work good for putting the whole family inside. Might have to end up getting another smaller one for when it is just me. Looking forward to getting it out in the woods and trying it out. Will be a very different experience. Did I mention it is BIG???

What have you used or do you currently use? Thinking of (finally) adding one to my gear. Hoping to also use it to get wife out taking more wildlife pics and littlenboy tagging along.
-
Nope, 4b. We waited 3 years to draw the tags for those monsters.
-
3rd one down. Is that a cam pick or a photo? Looks like he has some branches tangled in his rack maybe? Very cool pic.

Why are people so secretive and defensive about in which unit they just succeeded? Its not like we don't know where the trophy units are already. Are we afraid that simply saying what unit will cause a sudden rush to the unit? And heaven forbid someone have the audacity to ASK. I honestly just don't get the taboo. Maybe I am just getting old...
-
Well you're doing a great job then. Keep up the hard work. Sorry you don't have a tag though.
-
Very nice. Looks like you are working hard to have success. I hope you get one of those bad boys this year.

As most real hunters would be to others. Common decency is becoming a lost trait sadly. What kind of "hunter" makes fun of another hunter for making a clean and ethical kill because it is not a "trophy"? Is that really what our sport is about? Wow.

And thank you for congratulating me none the less. Funny thing though, I had already said what unit I was hunting in other threads in the elk forum. I was giving almost daily reports. Almost. 4b for those who don't want to look it up. Anyone want to know WHERE I shot that monster? Weimer ridge. Happy to help. I will have the same tag in another 3 years.
