I know there is a ton of discussion about brand, but I cannot decide between 60 vs 85. For those who have both or have switched from one to the other, what say you? I know about the obvious advantages (weight vs light transmission), but what about real world use? Very curious about your empirical experiences with them. I have swaro 15s already, but just trying to decide if I NEED an 85 or if a 60 will be enough of an improvement over the 15s to validate carrying it. AND if a 85 will be THAT much better than a 60 to validate carrying it.

I used to love dove hunting. I have a difficult time getting excited about it though since we started "pest elimination" at a local dairy.

My mother is going through chemo and needs a wheelchair for those "tired" days. Anybody got one of those portable ones sitting around that we can borrow?

I don't think anyone else stated Bear Mountain is the best in town. IMO they are the worst shop in town and it is sad. They USED to be good.

Thats what it looks like at my house on Halloween when the kids come home from trick or treating....

Thank you all for the well wishes and offers to help. duxngeez hooked us up with a chair. My Mother (and the rest of us) are very grateful. Can never say enough good things about the people here on CWT.

Looking at SLR's
AzDiamondHeat replied to azcouesandelk's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
My wife also has the d3300 and really likes it. For a non full frame it does really well. Smaller and light weight and takes good pictures indoor and out. Struggles a LITTLE with low light due to crop frame, but barely noticeable. Also has the Tamron 150-600 (as Rabbit mentioned above) and uses it for wildlife. Overall a great setup for an entry-mid dslr. Doesn't break the budget and won't be a tragedy if banged around a bit. If you need more speed or better low light, go with a full frame. Unless you are "pro", you will be hard pressed to see the difference in the pictures though. -
When glassing for animals like coues do you do your "finding with the 12/15 and the verify with spotter usually? Any avtual "finding" with the spotter?

There are no secret spots in 4b, so don't worry about trying to find them. Elk are literally EVERYWHERE in the unit. Flats, canyons, transitions....everywhere. Just decide what terrain you want to hunt and go find a dozen or so spots. You will want multiple backup plans. Because there are so many roads, you WILL run into people. Get off the roads and you are good. If you want to be alone, go to the canyons. Nobody likes the canyons. There are definitely areas that get hit hard though. The weekends are BAD. in addition to the hunters you have everyone else. The weekdays are nice though. I will be up there with my wife for her first cow tag during the same time. If you want help calling or finding give me a shout. I help people every year in 4b.

Maybe we should schedule a Saturday early morning out our way at the base of some mountain range like the San Tans where everyone interested brings their optics and we line them all up side by side and give everyone who comes a chance to look through them and see what they think. Could be a fun little CWT get together. So who's going to make this happen?

Rats. I thought it would be Holder.....

I have a built in onan but my buddy has one he got from Costco that has a remote. Has been dependable for a couple of years. Loud sucker though.

I am VERY careful when it comes to snakes. I where guards anytime I go out when they are active. I am scared to death every time I take my kids out to Aravaipa. I have had a few close calls, but never have been struck. Well, not on accident anyway... ....a few years back I recorded a video of trying to get a snake to strike. It was interesting how unwilling he was to strike. I know that is not always the case, but I do think they are more interested in just getting away. I don;t even know anyone who has been hit and we have been in the desert our entire lives.

New Mexico draw results out 2 weeks early!
AzDiamondHeat replied to Couestracker's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
My buddy drew elk, deer, antelope and oryx. He seems to be happy....lol -
I like to use coyote targets. for basically the same reason as above, small target doesn't need to be as far. Of course they are not the same anatomy as an elk, but close enough to get the right muscle and eye memory. Much easier to set up too and readily available at all the stores.

We need to go out and compare these some upcoming weekend. I have the new Vortex Razor 85 and would like to see how it compares side by side to some of these others in the actual outdoors. Maybe we should schedule a Saturday early morning out our way at the base of some mountain range like the San Tans where everyone interested brings their optics and we line them all up side by side and give everyone who comes a chance to look through them and see what they think. Could be a fun little CWT get together. I have nothing of value to add in participation but I would LOVE to see this. I have never been an optics guy, but I am getting there.
