Out of curiosity, what elevation having you been scouting?

I have the same hunt as you. I have done this same hunt for the past several years. We usually have a good size camp with anywhere from 4-10 tags. I will say this though, the southern half of that hunt can be TOUGH. We do the hunt because it is centrally located and we like to spend time together as friends/family. If the North part is closed, the south is going to be CROWDED. I have never seen LOTS of bucks at any one sitting. There are deer. There are bucks, but it is not your "ideal " coues" area. The terrain is steep and dense and the deer are very hard to find. I honestly doubt you are doing anything "wrong" other than being too fast. You are going to have to sit and glass until your eyes rot out of your head. You will see does and more does. Then you will move to a new spot and see more does. and maybe a spike. Then magically a buck will appear out of nowhere. Maybe. Lots of roads. Lots of people glassing from roads. If you want to see bucks, get off the roads and hike over one ridge. You will run into NOBODY and you will see deer. 24a is full of lazy hunters. You cam park next to me. I will be sitting on the road glassing and will watch your ride for you. It will be safe. I promise....

Man up and sling a bag over each shoulder. Thats how us poor folk do it.

Perfect. Well done. i really like that another member was willing to help. That seems to be a common story. This is how it should be.

When it comes to kids I will take the help of the whole friggin village if that is what it takes. They can learn solo success/failure later. No judgement whatsoever for those that disagree though.

Last time we had a fire hunting/camping my wife got mad. Kicked me out of the 5th wheel for the night. Campfires make you smell like smoke anyway and will scare away all the animals...

Holy cow what an exciting circus that must have been! I was overwhelmed with 1 tag.! Awesome job to all and congrats to teh kids!

Oh my sillyness what an end to a ridiculous hunt. Was heading out for one more evening of failure when Big Browns gives me a call and so graciously offers to take us to his super secret A+honey hole. Off we went. We climbed a small miserable mountain and right away found elk. Wrong flavor though. Not to worry, Big Browns not only takes us to this amazing spot, he then FINDS the elk TOO. After a short mad scramble to get everything set up,my niece launches her FIRST bullet at her FIRST big game animal. 530yds. The hours of practice paid off and she laced miss daisy with an (almost) perfect shot. Tucked it right behind the front leg just clipping the elbow. After a VERY short run/fall....elk down. Then the REAL fun began. Big Browns and her dad head back to get the ranger and she and I head through the scrub to find the prize. It took us over an HOUR to find it because of a) thick nasty scrub and b) a little hidden gully that fooled us and c) sheer stupidity on my part for not getting walked on to her. No worries, we had plenty of time because Big Browns doesn't know how to change a tire. Luckily he has hillbilly friends that do and came to his rescue. A few cuts later and elk bags in the Ranger and HAPPY niece. It was really AMAZING. her dad had been down with bronchitis for over a week, This was the first chance he had to get out. Shouldn't have because he was hacking up a lung but didn't want to miss it"just in case". Thank you again to all who offered help. Absolutely made this a fantastic experience. THIS is what makes this forum a great place. And of course I can't thank Big Browns enough for making this happen(after ALREADY helping TWO other youths this morning!!!!). And to wildwoody for saving the day. Just......AWESOME. Thank you guys. we did get some video but I am WAY too tired to mess with them right now.

Struck out again today. Got really close this morning but they saw us before we saw them. Went to a few spots that some members on here suggested. One was REALLY good. Unfortunately it was REALLY good for someone else right before we got there. We were at least able to render assistance to the dad and 3 boys who had killed an elk and had no way to get it out. Hopefully Karma comes back quickly. lol Will try again. Thanks to all who have sent help.

Plans ABCDE and F have all failed. LOL They are not talking and all water holes are dry. Except for the two right off the main rd which all the campers have circled around. So tomorrow we are hoping for dumb blind luck.

Well THAT didn't work. LOL Had a plan this morning and failed. Campers EVERYWHERE. Still lots of time and a new plan this afternoon.
