Here is a video that describes string derailment really well Hope this helps.

    Assassin

I never had an issue with mine derailing but I did notice the cam tracks were a bit shallow on the assassin. I noticed that the new bows from bowtech have deeper cam tracks. You could also look at the Hoyt challenger. I shot that bow a couple months ago and it felt pretty nice. I don't remember the price exactly but want to say it was around 450-550. I'm not sure it that comes in a package or just bare bow. Most of the bows that get derailed are from people pulling them back without a release and then trying to let down and they torque the bow and twist the string because they are gripping them so tight trying not to dry fire it. And then they blame it on the bow when it was their fault. Hope this helps. I think if you shoot the assassin you will love it though. Look at YouTube on bows derailing there are a couple video describing how people cause it to happen.

I shot the Carbon Knight a couple nights ago but only got to shoot it 3 times. I will be shooting it some more in a couple days. My first impression of it was incredibly light almost fake fealing. It was set at 29 inch draw and 60 lbs draw weight. The draw cycle has a pretty consistant pull and has a solid back wall like all Bowtech's. I did not feel like it had any creep. On the shot it has a slight vibration but is pretty quite. I shot it without any stabilizer and I think with a quality stabilizer it would take care of the vibration. We shot a 401 grain arrow through the crono and it shot at 281 fps. I am going to go back and shoot it with a stabilizer and crank it up to 70 lbs and I will let you know what I think after that. He was super busy when I shot it the last time so I will go back and get a better feel of it and shoot it a lot more.

I would imagine if you asked whatever archery shop you go to that you wanted the Assassin bare then they would do it. I know a lot of shops were going upgraded packages for a small fee less than a hundred bucks,. That would give you an upgraded rest and sight. I would definitely shoot a couple different bows to make sure you get what you want. I will let you know what I think about the new Knight tomorrow.

    Assassin

The Knight is out and it is not going to be taking the place of the Assassin. As for specs on the new bow it is carbon and really light at 3.2 lbs 31 inches from axle to axle IBO is 330 and 7 inch brace the MSRP is $849 so you should be able to pick one up for $749 that is bare bow.The specs are are really close to the Assassin. I have not shot the Knight yet but I will be going to shoot it tomorrow and I can let you know my take on it.

    Assassin

No problem. My buddy has a bow shop and should have the new bow (Knight) in by July 8th. As of right now Bowtech still has not told him much about it either as they are keeping it very quite till the release of it. But when he gets more information on it and if it is going to replace the Assassin I will let you know if you would like.

    Assassin

I shot that bow last year and loved it. Like said above the rest and sight are not the best but will get you by. I changed my rest to a QAD pro hunter and gained 13 FPS. My setup was at 70lbs and at 28' and I shoot a 400 grain arrow and it would shot it at 298 FPS. It is a great bow for the money and has a solid back wall. You might want to wait till July to get one though as Bowtech is getting ready to release a new bow called the Knight. Not sure what it is going to be but rumors are it could be a mid-level bow or possibly replace the Assassin. if that the case then you might be able to get a great deal on the Assassin. Not trying to start any rumors but it might be worth waiting to see what it is since it should be released in about two weeks.
  8. Congrats on an awesome buck Gino. What a great way to start off the the new year. Gotta love starting it off by getting bloody.

Traveling for coues MO to AZ part 2

Hahaha that would be the same guy. Thanks.
  13. Opening day found my good friends Mike, Cowman, my uncle Tom, and myself making a 3 mile hike in the dark into some remote country. By first light we had made it to where we had wanted to be setup to glass, shortly after setting up our tripods it started to rain. We sat glassing in the rain until about 10 A.M. Finally the rain quit and my uncle found one doe and Cowman found one small buck about a mile away. By noon we had not found anything else so we made a small hike up and over another high point to look back into another basin. Shortly after getting setup I found a spike and a tall 2 point. I got my uncle's attention and he says if you don't want him I'm gonna take him, so I said go ahead I have time to hunt and want to see if I can take a bigger buck. A quick range of the buck of 347 yards and my uncle lets one fly from his 25-06 and the buck drops in his tracks. We took some pics and deboned the buck and started our pack out. We glassed a couple more spots on the way out only to find one lone doe. We made it back the truck at last light and headed back to the ranch to see how my dad and his friend did for the day. When we pulled up we could see a quartered up deer hanging which turns out to be a young 3 point my dad's friend had killed. So day one ends with 2 out of 4 tags filled. Day 2 finds my uncle Tom, Cowman, and me on top of a bluff glassing some steep nasty country getting beat on by the 20 to 30 mph winds. My uncle finds a doe bedded about 150 yards from us trying to stay out of the wind. A couple hours later I find a young 2 point at 292 yards. My uncle jokingly tells me to take him and I say I have never shot less than a 3 point and I'm not gonna start now. Followed by me saying I will probably not see another buck now that I said that but it is still early in the hunt. After about an hour of watching this young buck and doe on the not so windy side Cowman says I'm going to the windy side to look and I'm gonna find some deer. After about 5 minutes me and my uncle figured we couldn't let him get blown away by himself so we joined him on the really windy side and just as Cowman called it he found two does about 3/4 of a mile away and then another doe or young spike right as it bedded. It was to windy to see in the brush to make out if he had horns or not. After about 30 more minutes of trying to hold our tripods from blowing over and trying to glass we decided to go back to the other side and see if we could find anything else. After coming back we noticed our doe had moved and we could not find her but the little two point had only moved about 30 yards and was still bedded. We ended up finding some pigs and they were the only game that was up moving towards the bottom of a canyon. After watching the pigs and little 2 point and not being able to find anything else I say to Cowman what do you think about working our way back out and glassing the little pockets that are on the not so windy side. Cowman just said its to late to throw another plan together lets just stay and see what we can find. After about an hour of snacking, glassing, and BSing Cowman pulls his eyes out of his Swaros and looks down and to his right and says deer. BUCK. We both swing our binos down to the deer and out steps two more deer. In all of this Cowman says Big BUCK he needs to die get your gun. I was already trying to lay my binos and tripod down so they didn't blow over. I get to my pack and my uncle is already calling out the yardage of 192. I grab my gun and pack and start to walk back over the edge of the bluffs and Cowman says get down one of the bucks is looking back up this way. So I hit my knees and then wait for only about 5 seconds but seemed like forever cause I could not see the deer and had no clue what they were doing. Then Cowman says OK get up here I hand my pack to Cowman and tell him to set it on the big rock just to the left of him. He sets the pack on the rock and I get settled in behind the 280 Rem. I look through the scope and ask which one is he not wanting to shot the wrong buck as I knew there was one big buck and another decent buck along with a spike. Cowman says he is the one in the back and I said are you sure as I had the middle buck in my cross hairs and could see a nice rack. Cowman said Travis THERE IS NO DOUBT THE BACK BUCK IS HIM. I said OK. Cowman says this is a straight down shot hold low and let me know when you are ready as I'm jacking in a round and then he says OH I guess your ready. The buck was quartered away from us and as I get back on the buck I said OK you ready and both my uncle and Cowman say let her fly whenever. I squeezed the trigger and hear the whoop and get back on the buck instantly and can see he is hurt but not fatally and they say you hit him but you hit him in his right hip. I jack in another round and the deer ran forward about 10 yards and stopped straight away from us and I squeezed the trigger again and get back in the scope to see him hit the ground. The buck kicked a couple times and then lay still with me still in the scope I hear Cowman let out a loud WOOO!!! You just killed a toad. I still had no idea how good the buck was as this all happened in probably less than 2 min. We packed our gear and picked our way off the steep bluff and as we approached the the buck I could start to see how good he was. When I picked up his head I was pretty much speechless. We took lots of pics and got him deboned and made it back to the bikes just after dark. End of day 2 found us with one tag left to fill as my dad did not hunt as he went to help a neighbor. Day 3 found us splitting up into two groups to try and find my dad a buck about 2 hours into the morning and doing our best to hold our tripods steady from the brutal winds that kept changing direction we decided to regroup and hunt some lower country shortly after relocating and setting up we found a couple does and fawns and a few hunters walking the hills. We split up after lunch and found some pigs and a couple does and a fawn. Then my dad radios me and says they have found a decent buck that is fairly tall and they were going to try and make a play on him. About 45 minutes later we thought we heard a shot over the wind and a few minutes later we get a call saying my dad had connected on the buck. When we made it to them we find that he had taken a nice old buck with lots of character. The old buck was was missing a few teeth and had been shot a couple days before in the back right leg and the hind quarter was starting to rot. He also had a crazy right horn that has a nice funky kinda twist. It was nice to be able to take an old deer and especially since he did not become coyote bait or die from the gun shot wound. All in all it was an awesome hunt that ended with us going 4 for 4 in 3 days. I had a great time spending it with great friends and family. A huge thanks goes out to all that made this one of the best hunting trips I have been on. A special thanks goes out to my uncle and Cowman for helping me harvest my trophy and best buck to date. I also want to say thank you to my loving wife who never gripped about me hunting and missing on our 5 year anniversary on opening day, you are the best. Enjoy the pics.

    Who's hunting AZ Unit 24a

I grew up in 24A and will be hunting late November coming from Missouri so I have not been able to go scouting since the military will only give me time to hunt. So if someone could go find some deer for me that would be great. Looking for 100+ thanks in advance for any help. Hahaha. Just messing with you guys not looking for any help just trying to get you fired up. Hope I can find a good buck and seal the deal but either way it will be nice to be looking through some binos in God's country and enjoying the rough country with a pack and a couple good buddies. It will sure beat this flat land. Good luck to all.

    Another Scarbrough Kiss

Congrats to Jett and the hole crew that made this happen. I gotta say that is some great shooting there are grown men that can not pull off a shot like that I'm impressed. Thanks for sharing the awesome story and great pics of a great buck. Always a pleasure to read about great youngsters getting done and doing right. I look forward to reading another story about the elk hunt, and remember even if you don't kill always enjoy your time in the outdoors with your friends and family. Congrats again Jett. JOB WELL DONE BOYS. KEEP IT UP.
  22. In Sept while on an elk hunt with my buddies we were glassing on top of a big pile of rocks. Long story short my Pentax 20x60 and tripod took about a 10 to 12 foot fall and the binos landed on a rock with the left eye cup taking the brunt of the fall. The lefty eye cup was broke and the tripod came out with a broke leg clamp and a bent leg. After a little messing with the eye cup I was able to get them focused and continued to use them for another day and a half before they finally gave it up. When I got home I emailed Pentax telling them exactly what had happened to see if it was worth sending them in to get them fixed and to get a rough estimate. Pentax emailed me back telling me to send them in with original purchase reciept if they were bought after Jan 1 1990 and they would be under warranty if it looked like they were not abused. I noticed the address that I was told to ship them to was in Chandler. I called them to see if I could just drop them off since they were in the Valley. Also while I was on the phone with them I told them I did not have the original purchase reciept as I had bought the binos 10 years ago, he asked me if I was the orignal owner and I told him yes. I had the wife drop them off a couple days later they told her it would be 2 to 4 weeks. 2 1/2 weeks later I get a phone call saying my binos are done and I can come pick them up. I was still expecting to pay for the repair. The wife went and picked them up a couple days later and they did not charge me a thing. I am very pleased with the customer service Pentax gave me and how nice they were with my wife at the repair facility. Keep in mind I never registered the Binos when I bought them as I was 16 yrs old and did not care about that back then. I paid like $230 for these binos back then and I fully expected to either have to pay for the repair or for Pentax laugh at me especially since I told them it was my fault. I cannot say enough about Pentax's great customer service.

    Vortex 10x50 razor?

I was just wondering if anyone has the 10x50 razors and how they like them. I just ordered some from Doug and I have not looked through the razors before. Just hope I did not make a mistake. I have looked through a lot of the other vortex lineups and have been pleased with them. I would think they should be good but just want to here from someone that has them or has looked through them. To see their thoughts on them. I did a search on here but could not find any thing on them. Thanks in advance for any replies.
