If the teacher actually egged him on I could see some merit to a suit. If not that is simply darwinism at work. Who knows, after the permanent brain damage maybe the kid will actually be smarter. It would be nice if they made people who filed lawsuits because their brains don't function correctly dig ditches for the rest of their lives with no pay. -
After picking up my archery over the counter deer tag I go home and start cleaning out my hunting pack and find another tag that looks exactly like the one I just bought. My pin head did not realize that January of this year was also 2010 and I just threw away $35. I will call G&F about a refund, but I already know their answer since I did the same thing with a hunting license a few years ago. Sometimes I feel like I am getting a little dumber every day. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice . . . . . . . . . well you aint gonna fool me again!

Dang. It would not be worth risking life and limb, but I would be tempted to make the hike back in there with a 5 gallon spray bottle of round up. It would be priceless to see the scum bags trying to figure out why thier crop went tits up.

Glad to hear my post may have saved a few from the same mistake. Good luck to everyone bow hunting this weekend.

I actually just bought all of my reloading stuff and have not even loaded a cartrige yet so I am definately not an expert. From what I have read if you increase the length of the bullet to where it touches the lands pressure goes up. I would get a second opinion before you take my word for it.

Racist. . . not so much. People who are overly sensitive to political correctness annoy me. -

Barking Frogs....ever heard of them?
rclouse79 replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
I think I have a pack of barking frogs that live under the cushions of my couch. I have not been able to catch one yet, as they are sneaky little buggers. -
I am also a fan of the vapor trail limb driver rest. I have not had any problems with it and I would guess I have shot is a couple thousand times. I did switch out the plastic coating on the rest with mole skin, which made it go from quiet to silent on the draw.

I would cheat with my rapid z recticle. 270 with a 130 grain bullet.
-
I would at least check out the Zeiss conquest with a rapid z recticle. I didn't do much researd on Leupold and have not shot one so I can't really compare. What I can say is I don't have any buyers regret when it comes to my rapid z.

I bought this bike with 3500 miles and it now has 9400 miles.

I feel your pain. I got a new string last year and my peep sight was rotated. Not knowing what I was doing I pulling it out with the string under tension and tried sticking it back in the string so it was straight. Needless to say I didn't have much luck and ended up ruining my string. After paying 100 + for a new string and cables I decide enough was enough, so I bought a couple bow tuning books and did some reading. I got a portable bowpress from Cabelas for around 40 bucks. The book I read said to take the string off and twist it a number of times in the direction the peep was naturally wanting to rotate until it is in the correct position. I felt like I was twisting it too many times and it just wasn't quite rotated all the way back around, so I flipped the peep 180 and backed off a couple of twists. I have a peep without the tubing and now it comes to perfect position every time I draw. To be honest I probably took the string off my bow 10 or more times and the process took a while to get just right. It was frustating at first but ended up being satisfying. I have a G5 metapeep sight that is not served into the string and I have not experienced it popping out. Maybe your serving is slipping or possibly a problem with the peep itself? Good luck with your setup.

This is an awesome idea! My 15 ft alumacraft with 35 hp motor will strike fear into the competition. . . NOT! It is rare that I take someone out on my boat who does not catch more fish than me. My wife didn't even have the heart to let me outfish her the last time we went out. There are so many new hunting toys I want to buy. . . . all I have to do is find a ringer without a boat before the tourney.

I love my 7dp, but now I am paranoid about the fiber optics rotting out and breaking. Does Spott Hogg cover broken pins, or are you out of luck. I looked up the tru ball sight and it doesn't look like a purchase you would regret.

That is a cool looking gun. I was looking through the midway catologue and saw they sell paint kits for gun stocks. Has anyone had any luck painting a black synthetic stock? I was toying around with the idea of painting mine but I am afraid I would screw it up. I also would be worried about the paint scraping or chipping off in the field.

New Bow Hoyt Carbon Matrix.....
rclouse79 replied to SuperiorBowHunter's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
You asked for opinions so here is mine. If you bought any high quality bow on the market and put the time in tuning and practicing with it you would probably arrive at very similar results. If having something that very few people are willing to pay for gives you a warm fuzzy feeling then go for it. My only advise would be to become proficient with that expensive bow or you might look like the guy who struts into the bowling alley with his hand crafted Italian shoes and a custom ball encrusted with diamonds in order to bowl a 105 average. It kind of reminds me of my first bike ride with my buddy Matt. He was riding a mountain bike from the first year they were invented and I was riding a road bike that had a water bottle holder worth more than his whole set up. After he left my butt in the dust I felt like giant douche, and realized that specialized gear does not do much except to for the few who can actually get everything out of the equipment that it has to offer. There will always be guys with inferior bows who will outshoot you, and guys with better set ups that aren't worth a lick. I would worry more about practicing than what bow you are shooting. -
It was nice to see that when I moved my nock point up or down I could actually correct a high or low tear. What I can not fix is my point impacting to the left of the fletching. Both archery books I own say to move the arrow rest away from the riser. I have moved the rest both ways and the point always impacts about half a cm to the left when I shoot 6 feet from the paper no matter what I do. The books also recommend to use a weaker spined arrow, which frustrates me because I just bought a dozen gold tip pro arrows for $100. According to their chart I should be shooting the 7595's with a 30 inch 70 lb draw. I was shooting PSE 300 radial weave arrows before that and experienced the same results with paper tuning. The book also says a possible solution is to increase draw weight, but my bow is maxed out. In both books it said this is an uncommon tear for a right handed shooter using a release aid unless there is rest contact. I have a limbdriver drop away rest and did the foot spray test and did not find any flecthing contact on the shot. A heavier field point was also listed as a possible fix. . . . nadda. As far as I know I have a relaxed bow hand and am not torquing on the release, and the tears are always very consistent. . . . I just can't change the horizontal aspect of it for good or bad. I am shooting fairly decent with it set up as is, but it frustrates me that I can not tune this bow to save my life. Maybe it does not matter, but I can't help but think I could be shooting better if I were getting bulletholes on a paper tune. I am shooting a PSE scorpion. Any thoughts or suggestions other that going out and buying a new bow would be greatly appreciated. If trying new arrows is the only option at this point, does anyone know of a place that sells quality single arrows so I can limit the amount of money I keep dumping into my quest for a perfect paper tune.

Don't ask me how, but I finally got a bullet hole paper tuning. I adjusted my rest using the walk back method. It was shooting good but still, tear right. Then I decided to tie on a new d loop. I did not know before a little research that you just have to twist the loop one way or the other to move it up or down. After adding the new loop my tear was low but my point was hitting just under the fletching. After spinning the loop around a couple of times to lower my nock point I had a perfect bullet hole. The only thing I can think that was different is the new loop seems to be a little tighter against the nock than the loop I had tied on at the pro shop. What ever it was I will take it. Thanks for the replies. I was also excited to see that when I shot a bare arrow shaft it grouped exactly with my other arrows and went in perfectly straigt. Before it was to the left and entering the target at an angle. I feel like my bow if finally tuned and shooting well. Now I just have to get within range of a deer.

I found this e-mail this morning. Personally I don't think a $3000 fine and a year in jail is sufficient, especially when they gave out an $8,000 dollar reward to catch the bastard. I would be in favor of a punishment so heinous that the next scum bag would think twice before pulling the trigger. Public’s assistance leads to arrest in Canyon Lake bighorn sheep poaching case May 19, 2010 PHOENIX – The Arizona Game and Fish Department has charged an individual with four wildlife law violations in connection with an alleged illegal killing of a bighorn sheep ram near the southern shore of Canyon Lake, northeast of Apache Junction. The arrest was made after the department received information from the public through its Operation Game Thief hotline, which is a silent witness line the public can utilize to report wildlife violations. Game and Fish officers corroborated the information with evidence obtained at the crime scene and obtained and executed a search warrant on the suspect’s residence in Mesa. The officers received a written confession from the suspect and seized evidence from the residence, including the firearm he admitted was involved in the alleged illegal shooting and a desert bighorn sheep head which was buried in the backyard. Department officers cited the individual for taking a bighorn sheep during closed season, possessing/transporting an unlawfully taken bighorn sheep, taking a bighorn sheep without a permit-tag, and waste of game meat. More charges may be pending based on evidence seized at the residence, and the investigation is ongoing. The department began investigating in late April after an employee with the Dolly Steamboat called in a report of a dead bighorn sheep by the shore of the lake. Further investigation found one dead bighorn ram with its head removed and indications of being illegally shot, and a second dead bighorn ram about 100 yards away with its head intact. Because of the decomposed condition of the second carcass, it was difficult to ascertain whether unlawful take was involved with this animal. Multiple tips came in after the department issued a May 4 news release offering a reward of up to $8,000 for information leading to the arrest of a suspect in the cases. The Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society also offered a reward of up to $1,000 per sheep for information leading to a conviction in either case, and the Arizona Bowhunters Association offered a $1,000 reward for a conviction. The suspect has only been charged in connection with one of the bighorn sheep. If convicted of the misdemeanor violations, the individual could face penalties of up to $3,000 and a year in jail. He could also face civil sanctions from the Arizona Game and Fish Commission. “Poachers aren’t hunters, and the public should not confuse the two,” said Brian Wakeling, chief of game management for Game and Fish. “One of the truly unfortunate aspects of poaching is that it may result in the reduction of legal hunting opportunities. Hunting regulations are formulated to be biologically sustainable, yet someone who illegally takes wildlife does not consider any of the biological implications." Wakeling pointed out that as many as 18,000 people have applied in a year for the opportunity to draw the fewer than 100 bighorn sheep permits generally authorized annually by the Arizona Game and Fish Commission. “Illegal take of wildlife certainly influences the number of permits we can recommend, regardless of which game species we consider," Wakeling said. Operation Game Thief Program Manager Ken Dinquel said it’s gratifying to have the support of hunters and other members of the public in helping solve these types of cases. "Although hunters pay for the largest share of wildlife conservation through license and tag fees, poaching adversely affects more than just hunters,” said Dinquel. “Poachers steal from everyone because wildlife is managed in the public trust for all citizens to enjoy. That’s why it’s in the public’s best interest to report wildlife law violations to the Operation Game Thief hotline.” Anyone with information regarding a wildlife law violation should contact the Operation Game Thief hotline at (800) 352-0700 or via the web at www.azgfd.gov/thief. All calls will remain confidential and rewards can be paid if the information leads to an arrest of a violator.

I am looking to buy a new scope that has marks on the recticle for different distances. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Bushnell DOA, Nikon BDC, Leupold BC, or other brand recticles? I may be able to get a deal on Bushnell products, so I am particularly interested in how its quality and performance holds up to the other brands. The price range I was looking at is up to $600. I would even go a little higher if the difference in quality was substantial. Thanks for any advice.
