"Gonna go out on a limb here and say 308Nut is aware of gravity . I believe you are misunderstanding what he meant." Everyone on earth is aware of gravity at some level. After all, everyone has seen its effects since they were born. There is a difference between being aware of something and having a sound understanding of how things work. You believe I misunderstood what he meant because you also do not have a basic understanding of physics. 308 QUOTE "If bullets were fired in a vacume, simply multiplying the distance by the cosine would work flawlessly. Then again, if we fired our rifles in a vacume, there would be no trajectory, only a straight line." Case #1- 308 was talking about a lack of air resistance when he referred to a vacuum. This is the correct definition of a vacuum. For those of you who agree with his statement and think objects follow a curved path because of air resistance, please explain why the moon follows a curved path the earth. (hint: there is no air resistance in space) Case #2- When 308 referred to a vacuum he was thinking that meant no gravity. This is not the correct definition for a vacuum. In the case of no gravity the bullet actually would follow a straight line path. In this case there would be no need to multiply the distance by cos of the angle. In fact there would be no need to worry about distance at all. You would aim directly at the target regardless of distance. The bottom line is it was a misconception. There is nothing to argue about, the laws of physics have been know for quite some time and not much has changed in the area of mechanics. Trying to defend the misconception simply announces your ignorance. Perhaps I should have not pointed it out. I am sure many people would have been happier thinking their bullets would follow a straight line path if they could get rid of that darn air resistance.

Rejected for invalid licence number. Good thing there are a gazillion left over tags for javalina.

"I believe you both are saying the same thing." You are wrong. He is saying bullets drop due to air resistance. The fact is they drop due to gravity.

Quote by 308nut "Why is this? Because all of the variables were not included. If bullets were fired in a vacume, simply multiplying the distance by the cosine would work flawlessly. Then again, if we fired our rifles in a vacume, there would be no trajectory, only a straight line. When you add the trajectory factor into the equasion, each indavidual trajectory has to be compensated differently for." I have gathered from your posts that you are a very good long range shooter. I do not question the fact that you know HOW things work, but your statement makes it apparent you do not understand WHY things work. A vaccum just means that there is no air resistance, and air resistance is NOT what causes things to fall. The reason a bullet falls is because the earth pulls the bullet downward due to the force of gravity. The only variables affecting the force of gravity are the mass of the earth, the mass of the bullet, and the distance from the bullet to the center of the earth. If you shot a bullet in a vaccum its path would be different because the horizontal component of velocity would remain constant. If you shot a gun with a muzzle velocity of 3100 ft/s it would have a velocity of just over 3100 ft/s 1000 yds down range. This bullet would have dropped practically the same distance as a bullet shot with air resistance in the same amount of time. The only difference is it would be further downrange due to the fact it did not have rapid deceleration due to air resistance.

Tell your dad thanks. You will be able to hunt a lot more in the future if you get an education and a decent job with some vacation time.

How do you get the deer blood smell out of your backpack?
rclouse79 replied to scoutm's topic in The Campfire
I am sure there is more than one person out there who wishes they had the same problem. I would try soaking it in a tub with the scent killer detergent for a few hours, rinse it out with a high power shower head, and then hang in outside to dry for a day. -
This should win an award titled "Most Replies to a Stupid Post". Chalk one more up from me.

You already got me excited to take my son out hunting. Only 9 more years and 4 months till he can get his own tag.

I would only follow willhunt4coues's suggestion if you are in need of spicing up your love life and think it would be fun to hang on while she tries to buck you off.

I am just new at this being married thing, so I don't know what my advice is worth much. I have given up a lot of things I use to do to make family life work. I don't regret the things I have given up, but I would regret it if I were forced to give up hunting (especially a december tag). If you are anything like me, skipping the trip is not an option. I would try to make a compromise and kiss some major a$$. I have a mule deer hunt in 36c this November. When I am hunting in desert with a loaded rifle I am more worried about rattlesnakes or breaking my leg than illegals. I do not think they want to mess with you in the first place and especially if you are armed. The only time I get a little nervous is camping by myself at night. Maybe you can find someone else on this site who has the same tag and plan on camping close to each other, and check in each night after the hunt. My wife bought me a SPOT (gps communication thingy) so I can check in where ever I am. Hope you are able to work it out and have a successful hunt.

2010 October Coues 130" and 98"

"Mine scores right at 130 and Daniel's goes 98 both unofficial. Hope you enjoy as much as we did." I hope I did not enjoy as much as you did, but nice work. -

I'm looking for a good Elk Tenderloin recipe
rclouse79 replied to azyota's topic in Cooking Wild Foods
Roll it in minced garlic and coursly ground peppercorns. Put it in the oven at 425 for 10 minutes, take it out and brush it with butter. Cook for 5 more minutes. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. -
I posted this question in another post, but wanted to put it on the main board also. I saw a couple of guys put the simms de resonator on their barrels and seemed to have good success. I am ready to test mine out next weekend. The instructions that came with the products said to place it closer to the end of the barrel if your barrel is free floated and closer to the stock if it is bedded. Most of the pictures I have seen have it placed closer to the stock regardless of the barrel type. I think they look silly, but am willing to give it a shot and see if it actually helps tighten my groups up. I have read enough reviews to convince me it is not a total hoax. Most people said they have to move the thing around to find the sweet spot before they see significant improvement. I was hoping people who have tried it would share the type of barrel they have (free floated or bedded), where they tried positioning it on the barrel, and the results they saw.

Nice shooting! I was excited to see this post after taking my tikka 270 to the range today. I bought a de resonator, but have not tried it out yet because I am reloading and wanted to test powder amount and seating depth first. I loaded up a group of barnes 130 gr ttsx bullets and shot a 4 shot group of 0.610 inches that could be covered up with a quarter. I was happy, but am still going to try the de resonator to see if I can do even better. My question to you Tikka guys is did you play around with the position of the de resonator on the barrel? I noticed in the picture it is closer to the stock, but in the directions it said to position it closer to the end of the barrel for a free floated gun. I have read reviews where guys have put it on to see no improvement, and then they move it an inch as see thier groups tighten dramatically. On a side I added a Karsten adjustable cheek peice and love it. It is awesome to rest your cheek and get a perfect sight picture through your scope instantly.

That is weird. I just bought a 2200 off a guy on this site, but the spotting scope compartment zipper was broken. I called and got a person right away. They had me ship it in and replaced the zipper free of charge. I got the pack back about a week after I sent it. Maybe I was just lucky.

I will give you the short answer to your question why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? People are butt holes.

Thanks for the story! That makes me want to stop putting in for cow tags just to get drawn every year and endure the years of waiting for a bull tag. Congrats on your kill and memorable hunt.

Would you pay someone to develop/reload for you

If I blow myself up I want it to be because I am a dumb a$$, not someone else. -
I am University of Idaho Vandal alum, and according to my fellow classmates should cheer against BSU. I find myself rooting for them anyway. Anything that makes Idaho known for something other than potatoes is a good thing. The problem is it is impossible to compare BSU with 1 quality win to a school who has 1 loss against 5 quality teams. If BSU played 5 VT caliber teams I would not put money on them winning all 5. I am not saying they could not do it, but it gets less and less likely with each good team they play. Until college football pulls its head out of its butt and makes a playoff, BSU will probably never get their shot to play for a national championship.

For my elk hunt in unit 10 this year I plan to start making up a triple batch of my favorite recipies every Sunday six weeks before I go. I will set aside a big tupperware and freeze it. Before the trip I will put all of them in a cooler with frozen water bottles. After walking around all day an eating granola bars I get to sit back and enjoy a beverage while I watch a delux meal heat up in a pot on the stove. Mt. House is good and easy, but I don't think it sticks to your ribs like a good home cooked meal. If you are car camping the extra weight and space does not really matter. Another thing I have started doing is boiling water at night and putting it in a thermos. Then in the morning you have oatmeal ready to go in 1 minute and can enjoy some hot coffee or tea right away. If you are up by the Grand Canyon in December and will be waking up to temps in the 20's not having to wait for water to heat up is priceless.

I liked the idea of being able to just pull a trigger and have all three legs instantly adjust to the correct height, but I am 6 3 and the trigger stick was a little too short. I really like the bogpod with the switcheroo head for the spotting scope.
