    Minox Binoculars

I am bummed I missed a pair of 15 x 58 Minox binoculars on Craigslist. I read a lot of good reviews on that product. Now minox only makes a 15 x 56 and I can't find much info on them. Does anybody have any experience with the new 56's vs. the old 58's?
  2. I have shot my friends 30 06, and I think it has noticably more recoil than my .270.
  3. My advise is to start hunting something else and then you will see them. All game animals can sense if you are targeting them, and will be extra wary as a result. I have had three shots at coyotes with my bow while deer hunting, but wasn't interested in taking a shot at them. Two were while stocking and one was at a water hole.

    SOLD-THANK YOU.

Do you have any idea what kind of groups the 7mm shoots?

BEFORE YOU GO HUNT, BE SURE TO CLOSE YOUR TENT

If I haven't gotten one by the last day of the season I am going to set up my sleeping bag on a cot inside my tent and leave the door open overnight. I will sneak up at first light with my bow already drawn. Hopefully I don't find a bum inside.

BEFORE YOU GO HUNT, BE SURE TO CLOSE YOUR TENT

And I am 0 for 2 archery hunting for those things?!?!?!?! I am the worst hunter in AZ.
  7. I posted something similar last year. Ended up with a .270 and have not regretted my choice.

    Thanks ALOT! You JACKWAGONS!

This week in the news physicist's claim to be on the verge of proving that the "God Particle" exist! I predict they will find it located right next to a JACKWAGON PARTICLE! Nice!

    Desert Mule deer rut

I have called them in on a regular basis with distress calls calling coyotes... just does though. I once gave a couple of buck grunts to a nice 3x3 muley that was hot on 3 does trail they were moving below me the disappeared but I could here them walking. so I start glassing else where when all of a sudden these does are making a beeline for me with buck in tow! I didn't even have my bow ready it was up the hill about ten yards. Needless to say they heard me scrambling for my bow and the does veered off! I bleated at the buck and he gave me a long shot. the hill was very steep so I shot under and watched him wander off after the does. moral of the story is ..... you never know! big bucks will run of little bucks for sure. I wouldn't blind call but if you can stalk to within 100 yards or so you may try a little buck grunt. james A couple years ago I glassed some muley butts going into some thick stuff. I went after them, and was about as patient as I am capable of. I was actually crawling slowly from bush to bush with long rests in between. I finally convinced myself the deer were gone and started walking back the way I had come. Just like always happens, I came across a group of does when I was not even "hunting". They saw me and started to bolt. I pulled a doe bleat out of my pocket and let her rip. They all stop and start looking around. After a minute or so the actually seem fairly relaxed. There was one fork horn in the middle of them. I thought to myself if my doe bleat worked this buck grunt should be awesome. No sooner had I finished the call, and all the deer were in the next unit. I would be hard pressed to try a buck grunt on a mulie again.

    Thanks ALOT! You JACKWAGONS!

I agree with the post that we all have a little jackwagon in us. Your individual hunting jackwagon percentage is directly proportional to the amount of time you spend glassing from or in view of a road (assuming you are able bodied). The number of other jackwagons you see is inversely proportional to your distance from the nearest road. If you are always seeing jackwagons every time you go hunting, does that make you a jackwagon?

    How good does Javelina taste

I kept waiting for that one, I was surprised it made it all the way to 9 posts. We shot a couple and my buddy said he prefered it to the elk we shot. I would not go that far, but I certainly didn't find the taste offensive. I want to get one this year and pound a steak with a meat tenterizer until it is super thin and make country fried steaks.

    Guard Dogs

I am getting pumped for my cow elk hunt. Since I had work late this week I started packing the truck last night so we can leave as soon as possible after work on Thursday. After reading all of the posts on this website about people getting their hunting gear stolen from their houses and trucks I started to get paranoid. I decided it was time for my pups to turn into working dogs and earn some of their dog food. They successfully fended off all of the scumbags last night and just have one more night to go. On a side note, is anybody else hunting up north worried about the weather this weekend. I am hoping it is not like a few years ago when all the hunters got snowed in unit 10. We will play it by ear and hope the weather cooperates.

    Guard Dogs

I am not going to load my gun or optics until right before we leave. I think I might get fired from my teaching job if I had a rifle and ammo in the parking lot.

    Guard Dogs

They are sweeties, but I know they would bark like crazy if somebody tried to get in. I think that would be enough to scare most low lifes off.

    clean barrel bad shot?

I actually went out last night to foul my barrel. The first shot from 140 yards was dead on. The second shot from 400 yards was dead on. I called it good after that. From my experience my first shot from a clean barrel seems to group with my other shots, but I still shoot a fouler just to be safe.

    Odd request

There is an item I wanted to get from Cabelas, but I don't think it would get shipped to my house before I leave for my elk hunt next Thursday. If anybody from Tucson already planning to go there this weekend who would be willing to pick it up for me I will pay you for the cost of the item plus $10 when I come get it. Call Rob at 609-2924. Thanks. Cabela's Cot-Side Nightstand™ - Standard Regular Price: $24.99 Qty: Item: IK-513358

    Unit 10 navigation

I was wondering if anybody had experience with different routes to get to the Northern part of Unit 10. From Ash Creek we have always gone through Seligman and up through the Indian Reservation. We talked to some other hunters last year that said it was faster to take dirt roads from Williams. I looked at the unit 10 game map. Going from Ash Creek to Willimas to 64 to Forest Rd. 6 to Espree Rd. cut 20 miles off our old route, but had about 60 more miles of dirt road. Unless the dirt road is in pristine condition I think going that way would still take longer.

    VERY DISAPPOINTED AND RATHER DISGUSTED

I have been interested in starting to process my own game. I was wondering how important it is to hang the game for a certain amount of time in a cool environment. I have always just taken everything to the butcher because it is too hot in Tucson to hang anything. I was wondering if a guy could buy an old refigerator, gut the inside of it, and install some hooks on the top to hang quarters inside. Has anybody done this, or heard of somebody else doing it?

    Depressing hunting story.

Right now I have consolidated down to one hunting rifle. This post makes me think I need to go out and get a backup. After looking forward to a hunt all year it would be devestating to have that happen. The only bad thing about having a backup gun in the truck is worrying about some scum bag breaking a window and taking it.

    ANIMAL RIGHTS FANATICS

I am tempted to look at the tips for dealing with activists, but I don't think it would be worth it. Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

    *** Stolen Guns ***

That sucks. I hate scum bags. My only hope for you is that you have home insurance that will allow you to replace some of what you lost.
  24. 3 in the mag, 8 in a wallet in the pack. I have only ever needed 1 for my coues, and have fired 2 bullets for 2 hits to put down both my elk. I have a bunch more rounds back at camp. I all honesty, if I missed all three shots in my gun I would go back to camp to check my scope.

    scope/rings

When I purchased my .270 tikka a couple years ago I came across some reveiws where people complained about the rings that come with the gun being faulty. After doing some internet research I found the problem with the tikka rings were from guns manufactured before a certain year, and they had fixed whatever was wrong with them. I mounted my scope with the rings that came with the gun and have not had my zero change after shooting or falling down and banging the gun. If the scope fits the rings that came with the gun I would not be afraid to use them.
