    Bowfishing Setup

It is an AMS reel. I would like to sell them together, but if I don't get any takers I will think about breaking it up.
  2. I don't sign in as frequently with hunting season a ways off, but this was a pleasant surprise. It is the first post I have ever copied and saved on my computer. Now I just need to get out and catch some fish so I can try it out. Thanks!

You guys are my heros. Enjoy those weeks at the lake while you are young and have limited responsibilities, although you might be good enough to do it for a living.

    Coyote Pelts

I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other, but I thought the same thing. Once you get on your soapbox about using the animal you should probably go all the way as a matter of principle. Coyote pot pies. . . mmmmm.

    Deer chops

Put them in olive oil with salt and pepper. I get my pan with a bit of oil heated up on medium high. Once they are completely thawed throw them on for 2 1/2 minutes a side. Perfect in my book.

    Vortex Viper 15 x 50s'?

I have read various reviews where a pair of Swaro's is a rated a 100, and the kaibabs got a 97 (plus or minus 2). Assuming those rankings are fair, I wonder what the viper hd's woud rate on the same scale. With the Kaibab's you get 97% of the performance for 63% of the cost. That seems like a no brainer if money is any sort of an issue. The viper hd's are only 35% the cost of the Swaro's. Is the performance close enough to justify the purchase, or will you have buyers remorse? When the piggy bank hits $659 to you drop it on vipers or do you keep on saving?

Tebow's hunting success in New England!

I have never liked the Steelers aftere the ref job in the Cardinals superbowl. They are to good to get so much help from the stripes. If the ref had not blown the lateral fumble dead I don't think the game would have even been close to overtime. I am glad it turned out that way though. . . . more painful for Pittsburg.

    Closest stalk yet

So I made a binocular adapter for my tripod which made a huge difference in glassing. I was hoping to see some piggies, but only found a few groups of mule deer does. I kept glassing back from one group to another. I went back to the middle group of does and a nice three point buck had magically materialized. I figured he would chase the does over the hill and out of sight. Within 5 minutes of spotting them they all bedded down right across the wash. Just realizing I was going to get to try a stalk got my heart pumping like crazy. I cut the distance to 150 yards and could still see the buck and does. They had no idea I was there, but then one of the does gets up and the buck follows. The actually cut right in front of me, but it was too far for a shot, plus there was brush between us. It was awesome to see the rack bobbing up and down above the vegetation. I kept sneaking in until the wind changed. When I started out it was perfect, but ended up blowing right at my back. I decided to pull back to the other side of the wash to find them again. They were pretty close to where I left them, but a little higher. Then the buck chased a doe over the hill. It was a kick even though I didn’t get a shot. I wish I would have been a little more aggressive the first half of the stock so I could have closed the distance more quickly. Seems like if you go in to slow they move by the time you get there, and if you go to fast they bust you.

    Public Land Blues

Two guys spooked 6 does and a 3 point buck that ran 100 yards right below where I was glassing. I kept glassing and ended up finding the deer across and down the wash. I am making a habit of glassing animals, and taking off only to find they have moved by the time I get there. This time I forced myself to keep glassing until I was pretty sure they were setted down. The buck peeled off and was hanging out with one doe. They were in the same small area for about half an hour so I decided to give it a try. I cut the distance in half and was slowly sneaking in when I saw the same guy in the orange hat that had initially spooked the deer sitting up on the ridge right above the deer. My initial thought was that we were going after the same deer so I sat and watched for a bit. After a couple minutes he pulled his phone out and started talking loud enough I could hear every word a few hundred yards away. I don't think he even knew the deer were there and was just talking to his buddy. I know it is all part of the game when you hunt public land, but still bums me out. Combat hunting with more hunters per square mile than deer is starting to outweigh the benefit of being able to hunt forty minutes from my front door. I am thinking about putting in for a unit not so close to Tucson next year.

    Powders and Primers

The best groups I got out of my 270 were with 54.5 g of H4350 with 130 g barnes ttx bullets. I think 0.060 jump to the lands.

    Public Land Blues

I don't mean to sound ungreatful for the abundance of public land. I just need to find some that is a little less accessible so I have less excuses when I come home empty handed.

    Minox 15x56 binos

I posted about the 15x56 minox and didn't get any replies. I am glad I found this thread on google. I was a little concerned that there were not very many reviews on the new model. My worst fear has been confirmed (according to this thread). . . . they are made in China. Has anyone else noticed this pattern with other companies. They make and sell a quality product for a number of years and gain a good customer following. Then they ship production off the China and make an inferior product to sell at a premium price. It does not seem like a good long term business model to me. I guess people are willing to sacrifice the reputation of thier company to make a quick buck these days. Does anybody know if the old 15 x 58's were made in Germany, or also in China. If they are in fact made in Germany I am going to wait for a good used pair to go up for sale, or save up the extra cash and buy a pair of kaibab's.
