Pics like this will make me lose sleep for the next 26 days. Nice job.

Would you rather glass until the end of the day and then hike down the mountain 2.7 miles in the dark back to your truck to sleep on a nice comfy mattress, or haul in water and food before the hunt and sleep on a thermarest up on the mountain? I am on the fence right now leaning towards the first option.

There is just a bit of bushwacking and about a mile of pretty steep down with easy walking after that.

That is why I love my hunting spot. The only people I have ever seen way back there are illegals.

My son is too young to think about this question yet. I am just hoping he is interested in going out at all. I like the suggestion of putting them in for a different hunt than yours. I did that with my neighbor who had never been deer hunting but wanted to go this year. When he couldn't take opening day off of work I was fine with it because it was his hunt. When he slipped on rocks and made I bunch of noise I was not annoyed because it was his hunt. When he wanted to call it a day with half an hour of light left it was fine because it was his hunt. When he decided to head home early after his third flat tire I was fine with it because it was his hunt. If you put your kid in for a different hunt and they are hard core and love it then you could put in for the same tag the next year.

Sounds like fun, nice job. -
How old is the boy in the photo? Maybe it is time for me to take mine out. I see him looking through the binoculars for about 45 seconds and then I would be chasing him the rest of the time.

I don't think that is that cowboys first rodeo.

Holy Moly! Sounds like you put in the time and effort and it paid off. -
I like my 270 tikka just fine. I think these posts are funny. Out of the blue somebody says "Here is what I like. Now tell me what you like and why what I like sucks or is awesome. Then we will pat each other on the back or argue about it" I guess if you are bored it gives you something to do. My non-expert opinion is a good rifle depends less on the caliber and more on the brand, the scope on top of it, developing a hand load to optimize your groups, and the amount of time you spend practicing with it.

That story got my blood pumping. Nice work.

I have hunted an area for the past 6 years during January archery season. I usually sit up high and glass which has allowed me to figure out where the deer are, but I havn't been able to get close enough. I was thinking about setting up a ground blind in a good spot this year. I am shooting rage broadheads right now and really don't want to switch so that I can shoot through mesh. Does anybody have reccomendations on a good blind for one person that has mesh windows that are easy to remove quietly? Thanks.

My wife showed this to our 3 year old and now I hear it at least 3 times a day. I was starting to get pissed off when I could not stop singing it in my head during my entire elk hunting trip. It is pretty funny. -
For months I have been looking forward to my out of state rile elk hunt that opens this Saturday. I spent most of my summer selling old gear, researching new gear, buying new gear, and getting in shape. More nights than not I have stayed awake for hours after laying down with thoughts of elk and mountains running through my head. So now the hunt is upon me and I am starting to get that feeling in my sinuses and throat that tells me something is not quite right. I have been trying to ignore the feeling, hoping that if I don’t acknowledge it maybe it will go away. I would be lying if I didn’t say I was a little depressed with the timing of getting this crud. How many people out there have had to deal with sickness on a hunt. What drugs did you take to make it bearable? I am talking about the kind you can buy at Walmart, in case anyone is confused.

I am hunting unit 36c for coues this year. If anybody gives me the coordinates for a world record coues I will ship them a pound of rancid coues hamburger if I kill it.

I think mine is the Harris 9-12. If you get stuck in a spot where you need some more elevation buy the triclawps to mount on top of your tripod. I prefer a prone position with a bi-pod, but have had success with a standing shot off of the triclawps on my tripod out to 300 yards.

Any 6x6 would make me grin ear to ear.

Any Preppers out there?

So guy A lives within his means and saves for the future. Guy B racks up credit card debt and mooches off of the people who work. The government prints an obscene amount of money making the savings of guy A worth nothing and the debt of guy B worth nothing. Now the guy who worked hard and was responsible for his entire life has more fire starter and butt wipe to show for his efforts. They both start from scratch in a world filled with anarchy. I think it is happening, and the scary thing is it seems like it is by design. I think the people who voted for change are going to get to see what it really looks like in their lifetime. Just thinking about it makes my blood boil. How many people out there think the rest of the world will come to our aid when everything falls apart? I won't be holding my breath. Sorry for being negative. I would like to say I feel better, but I don't. -
