Brand new Badlands 2200 with tags plus bladder

All the tag says is 2200, and online is says they are one size fits all. As far as I can tell the older models had two horizontal straps connecting the batwing, and this is the newer model with three straps.

  4. Most likely due to the fact I have enjoyed one to many barley pops, I was scarily close to pulling the trigger on an 8 lb container of powder from an online source for $230 after hazmat fees. I know I would most likely be dead before I use up that much powder, but a small part of me thinks that things are not going to get better and I should just make the purchase so I have one less thing to worry about. Should I suck it up and get my wallet fleeced, or hope things get closer to what we use to consider normal? I average going to Sportsman's Warehouse once a week, and no matter what I am stopping by for I always go to the reloading section first. The completely empty shelves that use to hold powder is starting to weigh heavy on my soul. The length of this drought is starting to become worrisome. . . . I am convinced evil forces are at work behind the scenes.

    Backpacking hunt

Another item I added this last year that I love is a wyoming saw. If you are going to make a fire it is worth its weight in gold. I also cut the horns off with the bone saw blade, which saves me carrying the weight of the head back.

    Backpacking hunt

I thought I would post my new favorite hunting lunch. On a tortilla put some mayo (packet from a fast food place), two pepperjack string cheeses, and one of the flavored foil tuna packs. My favorite are hickory smoked and lemon pepper. When you open up the tuna tip it upside down and squeeze it to drain any liquid first. These are good enough to eat all the time, but I don't want to get sick of them before hunting season.

I would also consider trades for a carbon tripod. I am looking at the Manfrotto cxpro3 right now.
  8. It is depressing to see tax dollars wasted like that, but I would ecstatic to see that same money used to sterilize the dim witted liberals that think it is a good idea. We have far exceeded the recommended number of left wing morons per square mile in this country.

    Backpacking hunt

One piece of gear I was pretty excited about last year was an army surplus gore tex bivy. It got great reviews on amazon, and I was able to get a used one in like new condition for less than 30 bucks. I used it under a tarp in the Colorado snow and was snug as a bug in a rug. The only thing I don't like is the end is open which leave you open to creepy crawlers. It is smaller and lighter than a tent, and would be great to have in an unexpected rain storm.

    Need to Vent

The area I choose to archery hunt javalina and deer is very easy to access. I go there because I am busy this time of year, and it is the only opportunity I have to get out. I like to get a day off of work to go out because the weekends are brutal. If you want to get away from the crowds you have to burn some calories and boot rubber. I would venture to guess the further you get from the nearest road the less people you will see, and the people you do run into are more likely to be a respectful sportsman. I sympathize with your frustration, but it is to be expected if you are hunting right next to a road. It is kind of like complaining about the type of people you run into when you shop at Wal-Mart.

Never mind, I went one step further. They charge shipping and handling. $250. Ouch.

    Havalon knives for elk

Yup, slick as a hot knife through butter. Unless I lose it, my havalon will be the last knife I ever buy.

    Eberlestock question

Has anybody bought one of the source water bladders for the top/fanny back hydration port on the blue widow or dragonfly pack. I am trying to decide between the 3 L and 2 L size. They say a 3 L will fit, but it doesn't look like it to me. Any personal experience would be appreciated, thanks.

    Elk Draw Question

I don't have any bonus points. My friend for Colorado wants me to put him on our application. Do the odds change if I list him as the number one applicant vs. myself.

    Elk Draw Question

I was expecting some differing opinions. I decided to call and go straight to the source and call game and fish. Asking if adding a nonresident to my application effects my draw odds seems like a yes or no answer. The person on the phone refused to admit they did not know the answer to my question. They talked in circles for minutes and basically told me I needed to go to the site and figure it out. I am hesitant to even begin trying to figure out how the az draw works without a phd in statistics. It seems like the az draw system is based on equal parts statistcs and black magic.

My first buck with a bow

Great job. These post keep reminding me that it is possible.
  22. Well you are one step ahead of me. I can not even get in a position to make a bad shot. On Friday I climbed up a hill to start glassing. Apparently I made a bit of noise, because I noticed a pig running away from me across the wash. I watched for about 15 minutes and saw that is was a herd of around 7. I must not have spooked them too bad, because they all ended up coming back to the trees right underneath me about 100 yards off. It looked like they were settled down and were going to bed. I decided to backtrack around the side of the hill and make my way down the to wash slowly so I wouldn't spook them. I snuck in on the spot I had let seen them and they were gone! I swear I was being quite, was stopping to listen more than I was moving, and was completely down wind the entire time. Thank goodness man invented the rifle. I don't consider January to be hunting, but rather hiking with a bow. It still beats not getting out.
